A transgender registered sex offender has been snapped in a creepy mugshot after he was busted allegedly trying to snatch a child from a Colorado elementary school.

Solomon Galligan, 33, was arrested after he came onto a field where kids were playing at Black Forest Hills Elementary School in Aurora last Friday afternoon, 9News reported.

Surveillance video captured Galligan approaching the students just moments before they scattered and started screaming, "Stranger danger."

Galligan allegedly grabbed hold of one of the children but lost his grip when he tripped on a white blanket he had been carrying, according to the police report.

The nearly abducted child later told cops the alleged perp had white powder smeared on his face and smelled of alcohol.

Galligan quickly fled, but cops later tracked him down to a nearby Walgreens, where he was arrested and charged with one count of attempted kidnapping.

The suspect, who is identified as male in the arrest affidavit, shared news of his transition on Facebook back in 2011.

"So im starting my hormone shots and i relly cant wait im on my hormone pills ive been on them for almost 4 months i wake up all depressed and crying but in the end its gonna be totally worth it you know what io mean im really excited my measurements are already changing and im super thrilled," he wrote.

Galligan was put on the sex offender registry and was convicted that same year of non-consent sexual contact, according to his latest arrest affidavit.

Surveillance video captured Galligan coming onto a field where kids were playing at Black Forest Hills Elementary School in Aurora last week. 9NEWS

The details regarding that 2011 incident weren't immediately clear.

In the wake of his most recent arrest, Galligan is being held on $25,000 bail at the Aurora jail.

He is set to face court on Thursday.

So you are shocked that a Colorado specific incident hasn't made national news like 99% of all local Colorado incidents?

Now that brings to question why are YOU not posting this article?

Why should I?  What makes it of national interest other than bigotry and prejudice?

On average, 2,300 children are reported missing in the United States each day. Of those, 800 are false alarms, and 33 are abducted by non-family

I almost did, but the way I have my news feed is set up, local, regional, national, world, I didn't think regional news would be of very much interest, which is where it showed up with their algorithm. Then I came here and saw it was already seeded.

I did notice the differences in the headline as well , one I read had more to do with "alleged attempted kidnapping" and parents reaction.

From your link:

In 1999 there were also 115 stereotypical kidnappings.  A stereotypical kidnapping occurs when a stranger or slight acquaintance transports a child 50 miles or more from home and either kills the child, holds the child for ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently.

115 divided by 365 equals 0.3 per day.

Non-Family Abductions and Stereotypical Kidnappings

An estimated 58,200 children were victims of a non-family abduction in 1999.  Non-family abductions occur when someone who is not a relative abducts and detains a child without lawful authority or parental permission with the intention to keep the child permanently.  In 1999 there were also 115 stereotypical kidnappings.  A stereotypical kidnapping occurs when a stranger or slight acquaintance transports a child 50 miles or more from home and either kills the child, holds the child for ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently.

Non-Family Abduction and Stereotypical Kidnapping Stats

  • 81% were 12 years old or older in non-family cases
  • 58% were 12 years old or older in stereotypical kidnappings
  • In 40% of stereotypical kidnappings, the child was killed
  • In another 4%, the child was not recovered
  • 86% of the perpetrators are male
  • The abducted children are predominantly female
  • Nearly half of all victims were sexually assaulted

Your source isn't reliable:

Fewer than 350 people under the age of 21 have been abducted by strangers in the United States per year, on average, between 2010–2017.[5] According to another source, only about 100 cases per year can be classified as abductions by strangers.[2] However, over half a million missing child cases remain unclassified each year,[6] and it is unknown how many of these represent abduction by strangers.
