U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) is under mounting criticism for refusing to support a Democratic bill that would make access to abortion the law of the land, as the U.S. Supreme Court, experts believe, prepares to reverse its historic 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade .

Senator Collins, who repeatedly claims to be pro-choice, is being criticized after years of supporting then-President Donald Trump's judicial nominees at every level of the federal judiciary, including two of his three Supreme Court picks.

According to the progressive group Suit Up Maine, Collins voted to confirm of 208 of Trump's judicial nominees. She voted to confirm Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, but against Amy Coney Barrett, reportedly because she felt the vote should not take place so close to an election. But Collins did vote to put Barrett on the federal bench in 2017.

The anger against Collins on social media has been palpable Wednesday, but it may be about to get worse.

According to NBC News affiliate News Center Maine, Collins just endorsed former Maine Republican Governor Paul LePage for a third term. LePage was term-limited after two consecutive terms, but announced in April he is running once again.

For those who don't remember, LePage is a Trump acolyte known for making outrageous and vulgar remarks, is anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ, and pro-death penalty. He opposes legalization of marijuana, opposes renewable energy, supports "school choice," opposes ObamaCare, wants to reduce the number of hospitals in the state, and has made racist remarks.

This was Gov. LePage in 2016:

"As Maine recovers from the pandemic, Paul is the best candidate to grow our economy," Collins said Wednesday in a pre-recorded video endorsing LePage, who once called himself "Baby Trump."

My understanding is that she upset by the same nonsense we see here daily,

that doctors need to be protected from being forced to do abortions against their will

She and a handful of other R Senators are drawing up their own version of protecting Roe as is

The bill would “codify” Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

But Collins said it would weaken the Religious Freedom Restoration Act , which prohibits the government from burdening the exercise of religion.

"This ‘carve out’ would be unprecedented, and I do not believe it is necessary to codify Roe,” she told the paper.

Collins said she is discussing a potential bill that "truly would codify Roe," the Times reported.

In practice people seeking abortions go to places the specialize in those procedures.

People seeking sex changes go the 25 specialists in this country who do that

and none of them are being forced against their religious beliefs.

But but but you're the one who said it.  Why would you put forth that statement if you know of no examples for it?

“I support codifying Roe. Unfortunately the bill … goes way beyond that. It would severely weaken the conscious exceptions that are in the current law,” Collins said, according to the Times.

What is she talking about? The story didn't elaborate...or she didn't

46 states have laws protecting doctors from lawsuits if their actions, based on religious beliefs, harm a patient.

The Democratic version of the Bill attempts to provide an level base which Collins believes weakens the protections for providers.

Most states did not have exceptions to the laws, even in cases of potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy, and most did not require the clinician to provide a referral or information regarding access to services. Twenty-six states imposed no conditions on the rights of refusal.

Some states did limit the immunity from lawsuits in cases of emergency (13 states), miscarriage (four states), and ectopic pregnancy (three states).

The study shows that the majority of states have given more weight to the providers’ rights than to the patients’ needs, said Dr. Albert Wu, an internist and professor of health policy and management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. It’s “disturbing that patients in 37 states do not have a right to those services and that patients have been injured as a result,” Wu said. “It’s a widely held belief that the patients should come first.”

“This crosses a line to the point where employee rights are encroaching on patients’ rights,” Wu said. “I think patients need more safeguards to make sure their right to health is not trumped by the preferences of medical professionals.”

Collins prefers the hodge podge of current laws ( States Rights ) and opposes any federal limitations.

In other words, she believes the providers rights are more important than patient rights and patient safety.

even in cases of potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy,

An ectopic pregnancy is not even a real pregnancy. It will kill the woman if it left untreated. And the fetus can't be removed and transplanted into the uterus (yeah...there have been some mental midgets who think that's possible). So any doctor that won't treat an ectopic pregnancy, ie, abortion, based on his/her religious beliefs should be sued out of practice AND that doctor should lose his/her license to practice medicine
