2020 A Year to Remember

Without a doubt 2020 was one of the most consequential years in my lifetime. It had all of the horrors of the 1918 Spanish flu/Influenza pandemic, the disaster of the 1929 Stock Market crash and the turbulence of the 1968 protests/riots. It began inconspicuously enough amid a thriving US economy and a U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport that killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force. Almost unnoticed was a report that the Chinese government announced it was investigating an “outbreak of respiratory illness in the central city of Wuhan.” The reason the story was a bit under the radar was that The House of Representatives voted to send its impeachment articles against President Trump (abuse of power and obstruction of Congress) to the US Senate on January 15th. On January 29th the White House announced the creation of a coronavirus task force and on January 31st the President announced a travel ban from China, with some exceptions. The same day that Brexit became official and the UK began the tedious process of formally withdrawing from the European Union.

The Pandemic : How it actually began has been muted by the left. It could have started in a Wuhan wet market or a Wuhan Lab. We may never know. What is known is that China prohibited travel within it's own country, but allowed the pandemic to flow & spread throughout the rest of the world. In the US it has taken over 250,000 lives and destroyed the prosperous American economy. It most likely was the reason that Joe Biden will be taking the oath of office in January rather than Donald Trump. Jane Fonda would later say "Covid-19 was God's gift to the left." Possibly the only time Fonda ever said anything prophetic or meaningful.

Donald Trump: History will record that Donald Trump changed not only America, but the world. He kept his promise, despite an onslaught of resistance to build a wall to secure the nation's southern border. He even got Mexico to cooperate on the Mexican side of the border. It was Trump that exposed China as the beneficiary of a one sided trade deal and a robber of American jobs & American technology. It was Trump who tried to bring back American manufacturing jobs and made America self sufficient in energy. It was the Trump economy that lifted all boats and provided minorities with a decent standard of living. It was Trump's tone that the establishment & the left couldn't tolerate and all manner of evil deeds were committed in order to get rid of Trump. Joe Biden will now try to undue all that Trump has done. The American tragedy of 2020 is just about complete whether or not Trump ever concedes.

George Floyd: On May 25 George Floyd was killed by a police officer in Minneapolis, sparking protests against police brutality and racial injustice. Protests, rioting and looting followed. The initial protests were hijacked by BLM and antifa and morphed into rioting and looting. Democrat mayors allowed it, were actively invested in it and they ordered their police departments to stand down. The violence continued for months. Some in the media thought the mayhem would help to defeat the President. Few in the media admitted the violent nature of the riots.

J2OX6F326ZHJHLWH4U5QCLEDQU.jpg

The 2020 election: All summer Mark Elias (Hillary Clinton's former campaign attorney), as well as others, used the pandemic to file hundreds of lawsuits in order to change election rules to enable such radical changes as mail-in voting, ballot harvesting, “vote-anywhere” rules, and curbside voting. Republicans did little to stop it. It clearly had an effect on the election as did the fact that many seniors were frightened of the pandemic and bought into the idea that President Trump didn't do enough to protect them. Despite the pandemic, voter participation was the highest on record with 79,905,017 votes for Biden and 73,835,982 for Trump.

Epilogue:   The establishment and the democrats have their power back. The media has lost the hysteria, yet the nation is as divided as ever. High taxes and massive social spending may be just around the corner. We are entering an age of uncertainty. The president-elect is a prisoner of paradox. We don't know what he stands for or if he can withstand the pressure from those who helped get him elected. Nobody in the media was ever interested in discovering why the 73 + Million voted as they did. Those in power have all the wealth & influence and are dedicated to transforming America. The Republic may be on it's death bed.

Trump brought upon himself his own debacle colossal.

"Joe Biden will now try to undue all that Trump has done"

Sorta like Trump and Obama , no...?

Why the hell should he concede, he lost, and this is America, where elections are a third world joke to exploit, disregard, and or ignore. Yea , what a year, and what a POS potUS

Reading the comments is hilarious. What a group of whiners we have on NT...

I think that Trump's original Secretary of State, Rex Tillison hit it on the head when he said Trump was a ''fucking moron''.

Complaining about Biden's pick for positions is really funny after Trump's band of grifters and conmen.

The simple act of hiring people qualified for their jobs is in itself a rejection of the Trump model, which installed donors, right-wing ideologues, and inexperienced allies into positions of power, in some instances for the express purpose of undermining the institutions they were meant to lead.

How true it is.

Ya'll carry on.

I hope we are going to be able to talk about the seeded article and it's author without interruption or censorship.

The article is a good example of the famous "alternative" or "alternate" facts Kellyanne Conway so famously introduced to the world.   We also have to talk about the author of the article because he has a considerable history of floating false "facts" on this forum. His level of credibility is on a par with World Net Daily or Gateway Pundit or Brietbart and other discredited right wing news "sources''.

The article says literally nothing about the most obvious connection between Donald Trump and the pandemic  -  he tried to downplay if not outright ignore it, mainly to make sure that the stock market remained a positive talking point for his re-election campaign. In order to maintain his 9 month long stance of optimism about the economy above all else he failed to lead any sort of proactive national response to the pandemic , the result of which was waves of spread of the virus across the country starting and stopping, and most tragically , Trump's refusal to espouse masks and social distancing undoubtedly led to actual deaths in the aftermath of his rallies and other public appearances. To claim as the seeded article does , that Trump is an innocent bystander of the pandemic beggars all common sense.

Then the article talks about George Floyd  and the aftermath.  Unfortunately 100% of the emphasis of the seeded article is on social unrest after George Floyd and other blacks were killed under questionable circumstances by police. The seeded article does not have a single word to say on behalf of reforming police procedures that lead to unequal treatment of minorities by American police forces. Instead it emphasizes the discomfort white Americans feel when they see social unrest on the tv news.

Then the article talks about the election, alleging, with zero supporting facts, that mail in votes were illegally assigned to Joe Biden and thus caused him to win the election. There is not a single shred of evidence for this that has been presented in court to positive effect for Trump.  And what about the states that use mail in voting that were won by Trump? Should we demand recounts in those states? Or are they presumed innocent because they dont have large black and minority urban populations?

Donald Trump's presence in politics has been a tragedy for our country. His dishonesty, buffoonish narcissism and self dealing are unprecedented.  All of these traits culminated when he tried to bribe the president of Ukraine into producing negative information about Trump's election opponent.  Trump tried to hold back military assistance to a US ally in need in order to , in his mind, help him win re-election. It is one of the most disgraceful things a US president has EVER done. Yet the seeded article does not even mention that Trump was impeached , and blindly states that if not for the pandemic Trump would have won re-election easily. More nonsense. Trump never led Biden at any point in pre-pandemic polling. He never even led Bernie Sanders in most polls in 2019 and pre-pandemic.

The articles from this source are literally disinformation.

Actually John, you are not supposed to be discussing members. If you get out of line you will get a ticket. I run a tight ship.

We also have to talk about the author of the article because he has a considerable history of floating false "facts" on this forum. His level of credibility is on a par with World Net Daily or Gateway Pundit or Brietbart and other discredited right wing news "sources''.

The article is my version of events, an opinion piece. It is not a news article.

That is not accurate. The President took two actions in January as noted. He appointed a special task force and stopped travel from China. The CDC at the time had few masks or ventilators and dysfunctional test kits. Dr Fauci told us there was little to worry about and that masks were useless. Then we finally got the ball rolling and ramped up the supplies and put operation Warp Speed into effect. The vaccines coming out are all due to Trump's leadership. As I mentioned in the article, many seniors were frightened and felt he didn't take it seriously enough. The media helped to frame it that way from day 1 with the election in mind. To this day the experts still know little about this pandemic.

Correct. I don't believe there is systemic racism in police departments.

Then the article talks about the election, alleging, with zero supporting facts, that mail in votes were illegally assigned to Joe Biden and thus caused him to win the election.

False. Show me where I made that allegation. I pointed out that democrats won a victory in getting changes in election laws - changes that water down election integrity. I didn't make any claim of specific fraud.

And what about the states that use mail in voting that were won by Trump? Should we demand recounts in those states? Or are they presumed innocent because they dont have large black and minority urban populations?

Did they get their ballots counted in a timely fashion?  Florida had an enormous amount of mail in ballots. Florida was called on election night as was Texas!

Yet the seeded article does not even mention that Trump was impeached

False. I made sure to mention it at the very beginning - to show where the administration was occupied when the pandemic was first mentioned.

Trump never led Biden at any point in pre-pandemic polling.

Nor was he anywhere near down as much as those ridiculous polls had him. They even had him in a close race in Texas, which he won by 6 and down in Wisconsin by 17!!!

The articles from this source are literally disinformation.

Just like Trump was a Russian agent!

Maybe you should deal with all those false claims.

At this point, I am going to make some statements.

First of all, the call for meta and off-topic is left to the seeder, when it is this long. Vic has said nothing yet, so the comments all stand.

Second, Sparty is taking a break. He wrote to me.

Third, KD has a personal issue and that is why he is not here.

Forth, Loki and XDM was banned for calling both Sandy and me the most disgusting things. Our CoC says clearly that a member is judged by the totality of their behavior and they was over the top bad.  XDM was trying to commit suicide by Mod, and we tried our best not to take the bait, till he mouthed off, in a manner that no decent person would.

Fifth, and most important. There was never going to be a happy ending for everyone on this site from this election, and for logical reasons. I think that this would be a good time to realize that being a sore winner or loser has nothing to gain and that the name-calling never produces quality discussion.

I hope that answers everything.

We can conclude that the nation will be taking a few steps backward, how serious we don't yet know. All consequences of the events of 2020.

Crazy year.

I'm one of the lucky ones that still has a job, work from home 4 out of 5 days, work for a company that cares about its employees.

Down side - working from home I don't get to see my co-workers who I work closely with as we can't be in our office at the same time, only one of us is allowed there at a time but I we do talk on to each other every day. And being a widow I miss seeing other people.

More down side - So far not being able to see the 3 babies born 4 months ago -  1 set of twins (my nephew and niece's children) and my cousin's little one...all boys

More down side (kind of) - My "office" is set up in my basement so I'm limited to watching TV down here during my "work" day.  I have a roku for the tv down here.  I've binged watched so many shows in the last 8 months that I'm running out of shows that pique my interest.  I have Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Max

Upside - my dog loves having me home all day and night

So far no one in my family has had COVID-19.
