Crowdfunded Faith-Based Nature Documentary Series ‘The Riot and the Dance’ Celebrates the Creator, His Creation

Andrea Morris September 2, 2021

The producers of  The Riot and the Dance  have teamed up with Angel Studios for the distribution of its multi-part nature documentary series intended to show God’s hand in the beauty that surrounds us.

The faith-based series showcases the vast and beautifully intricate planet while explaining to viewers that it was intentionally designed by the Divine Creator.

The show’s host, Dr. Gordon Wilson, who’s also a scientist and devout Christian, told  The Christian Post  (CP) that working on the project was a “dream come true.”

“For a scientist and animal lover, there’s nothing like adventuring in the field. And now, thanks to our fantastic production crew, I can bring millions of families along for the ride, celebrating creation and the Artist behind every fantastic critter,” he told CP in a statement.

“Faith-based nature docs have never had space in the industry,” he added. “I’m still amazed that such a shake-up is really happening, and I’m beyond blessed to be a part of it.”

The Riot and the Dance  is crowdfunded like the hit series  The Chosen .  At the time of publication, the producers had raised more than $117,000 toward the goal of $1 million for production costs.

The series is supported by several celebrities who are Christians, including Kirk Cameron, Kanye West, and  The Chosen  creator, Dallas Jenkins.

In a video promoting the series, Jenkins said, “What I love about this series is both what it isn’t and what it is. So what it isn’t, is some sort of conspiracy theory or an ‘us versus them’ thing or a sermon series, but what it is, is twofold.”

“Number one, it’s a look what God did, like, check out what God did,” he added. “Let’s learn about it. Let’s engage with it. Let’s teach our kids to love it more and to nurture it more. But then, also, it becomes a celebration. It’s like a worship experience. I feel like I love God more and want to worship Him more because of all the amazing things that this documentary series is showing me.”

Cameron called the nature series “amazing.”

“Wilson and Angel Studios are bringing together an incredible TV series that is going to thrill you, inspire you, and get you so excited,” Cameron pointed out on the series website. “Your family is going to love it!”

Jon Erwin, director of the film “I Can Only Imagine,” described the nature series as family-friendly entertainment.

“It shows that God’s fingerprints are all over the world. I think it is something your whole family will enjoy,” he said. “I’m backing it and I think you should back it too.”

Rapper Kanye West allowed the show creators to use his song “Selah” for its trailer.

It is not proselytizing to advance the foundational principles of the facts of creation, ...

There are no such facts, they are simply beliefs

... that an intelligent designer exists, ...

There is no such fact, simply a belief.

... and how He did what he did.

Again unsubstantiated beliefs presented as truth sans any supporting evidence (much less proof).

It’s not proselytizing to say that gravity and science came from an intelligent designer and not random chance and evolution.

A belief that denies overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I will believe in and advance the idea of divine creation instead of evolution as the source of origin even if you as a secularist suspend me for it.

Our world is full of evidence of thoughtful and intentional design, from the beauty we see in the brightly colored flowers and birds to the complexity of the cell and the very structure of the universe itself. Evidence of design is seen even in our capacity to appreciate the beauty, and our ability to examine the creation and thoughtfully contemplate its meaning. Inevitably, we are led to wonder how the design came about and what it means for our own existence.

This quest has led many to see a Creator God whose omnipotence is displayed in the size and power of the stars and whose omniscience is seen in the structure of living cells and the precise interaction of physical and organic features of the creation. This conclusion naturally leads one to seek for more information about the God of creation.

Study of the creation has revealed much evidence for the idea that a Divine Creator stands behind the scene. Scientists have wonderful opportunities to see the evidence of God’s creativity and to ponder His greatness. However, the creation does not speak clearly to our minds. The evidence of design is mixed with evidence of evil and violence. Organisms may appear to have imperfections that would not be expected from an all-wise Creator God. The ultimate resolution of this problem is not found in study of the creation, but is available to those who accept the Biblical revelation of God and His relationship to us and our world.

The Bible reveals the story of creation, and teaches us about the Creator God who effortlessly designed the world for His own purposes. In the space of six historical days, He prepared an environment suitable for living creatures and then filled that world with a diversity of organisms. He created humans in His own image and gave them responsibility for His creation. He gave them the gifts of cognition, language, relationships, responsibility, freedom and purpose. Here we find the explanation for the design seen in the creation – it reflects the character and purpose of the God of creation.

But what about the evil we see in the creation, which turns so many away from faith in Biblical creation? The Bible also reveals the story of evil, and how violence and death entered the perfection of creation. This story tells us something important about the character of the Creator God. It seems that God places a very high value on the kind of relationships that are possible only with beings that possess freedom of choice. The high value God places on human freedom is best understood in the light of the cross of Calvary. There we see the affirmation of the Biblical message of the special creation of humans, their rebellion and its evil results, and the depth of God’s self-sacrificing love. The cross reveals the significance of the creation story, with its elements of a six-day creative period, seventh-day Sabbath, original diversity of living organisms, and special creation of humans in a perfectly designed paradise. We would do well to contemplate daily the meaning of the cross and how it illuminates our understanding of the Creator God and His works.

A denominational explanation of creation and intelligent design from Dr. Ben Carson’s denomination and he believes this.  I concur.

Dr. Carson is an enigma.   He is an accomplished neurosurgeon whose religious beliefs are no more sophisticated than those taught to Sunday schoolers.

Why do you reject the religious explanations of Dr. Francis Collins, et. al. who deeply reason through science and religion and can offer rational explanations of how they see their faith coexisting cleanly with reality rather than contradict it?

Well he actually went to Church today just for the record but his beliefs are correct and proof that beliefs on the issues of origins have no impact on one’s ability to work in many fields of science and excel at their endeavors.  Having a belief in evilution is no prerequisite to excel in science and many scientists who are creationists or at least ID supporters do fine despite not going the secularists ideas of origins.

Belief does not equal fact. And the empirical evidence contradicts the belief, which itself offers none. Going by belief is merely entertaining a personal bias or wishful thinking. In that regard, both you & Dr Carson are wrong in your views about creation. It's just religious dogma rejecting actual scientific evidence.

Denial of evolution as the mechanism from which all species arise shows an irrational bias.   That belief profoundly skews one's understanding of biology and calls into question their overall rationality.   While some such as Dr. Carson can function with an irrational conflict, they remain an enigma.   Functioning but irrational.

Dr. Collins, unlike Dr. Carson, wholly embraces the science of evolution.   The man understands the overwhelming evidence of same and has reconciled his faith to be consistent with reality.   Dr. Carson has not.

Regardless, the fact that you think someone made that argument is irrelevant.   Your response to me did not follow what I wrote.   It was pure strawman.

Good grief man, you are all over the place.    I made no comment on the possibility of a god (albeit there is indeed a possibility) so again you just plop in unrelated content.    We were discussing evolution.   Remember?

But since you bring it up (out of the blue LOL), the Christian God is defined by the Bible as a contradiction (e.g. an omniscient entity that can be surprised, disappointed, angered, persuaded to change its mind, ...).   A self-refuting (contradicting) entity cannot exist.   Therefore the god  —defined by the Bible— absolutely does not exist because it is defined as a contradiction.

⛬   A god might exist, but it is, by definition, not that defined by the Bible.   Sorry, your belief is irrational and wrong.

"The Riot and the Dance" is following in the footsteps of “The Chosen" by inviting viewers to invest in bringing to life a nature series that shows creation was intentionally designed by a divine Creator.

Dubbing itself the “first high production” nature series, the show specializes in acknowledging God’s hand in the beauty of nature. While most mainstream nature series ignore or deny God’s involvement in creation, “The Riot and the Dance” is overt in its Christian messaging.

In the show's pilot episode, host Gordon Wilson, a scientist and devout Christian, talks about Jesus and baptism while exploring the beauty of nature.

“Working on ‘The Riot and The Dance’ is more than a dream come true. For a scientist and animal lover, there’s nothing like adventuring in the field. And now, thanks to our fantastic production crew, I can bring millions of families along for the ride, celebrating creation and the Artist behind every fantastic critter,” Wilson, who also hosted the successful documentaries “Earth” and “Water,” said in a statement shared with The Christian Post.

They are essentially trapped in an evolutionary specialty of eating certain grasses and migrating, of culling the herds of the migrating herbivores, of recycling the waste of said herbivores and carnivores.

Only man is destructive to his own species and every species deemed "below" man.

If a bull survived once, he was very difficult to kill in succeeding bull fights.

After one bull lasted 16 "tournaments" and killed and maimed many matadors and horses,

they simply kill every bull now.

You only believe god created man and animals. But science has shown evolution and speciation occurred. So your belief is demonstrably wrong!

 Just natural adaptation to environment.

You do understand that's how species evolve, right?

Jesus spoke of creation and of Sodom and Gomorrah when He was here as the Messiah in His preaching to the people with direct knowledge since He is the creator here and He visited Abraham and negotiated with him over His destruction of them for their ways.

It's both funny and sad how people will accept any claim, no questions asked,  just because someone else said or wrote it.

There has been no evolution of one species into another since Gods creation week and Adam naming all of the animals.

Demonstrably false!

Humans were the only ones created in the image of God.  It was God that after the fall of humans to sin and our losing dominion over them gave them a natural fear of us.   The study of these animals and their environment will make for great support of creation as the source of origin, not evolution.

It doesn’t matter.  We believe.  We have faith.

Unsubstantiated belief ≠ fact:

  • Flat-Earthers believe the Earth is flat.
  • YECs believe the Earth is 6,000 years old.
  • Muslims believe that Jesus existed as a mere prophet (an ordinary man) and that the Qur'an (not the NT of the Bible) is God's most recent revelation.
  • Trump sycophants believe he actually won in 2020.

People can (and often do) believe all sorts of things.   It would seem that belief sans supporting, credible evidence is a natural phenomenon of the human brain.   So believing (faith) is not in itself bad.   However, those like you who conflate belief with truth have provided the means for faith-based authorities to control you and thus you make it possible to walk around believing 'facts' that are not true.

Case in point, your belief that evolution is a worldwide conspiracy by scientists trying to attack your religious beliefs is a 'fact' that is simply (and absurdly) not true.

Now let’s call out the hypocrisy and double standard here.  How often have you seen complaints about the ideas, beliefs, policies of Christians and conservatives detailing all sorts of complaints about our agenda saying we are bigots and intolerant, etc. and then calling conservatives and or Christians the American Taliban.  It’s happened for years without a peep from anyone not on the right.  Now when the same type of words are directed at secularists and progressives and they are called that, it becomes a problem.  Why is that?   Not only do I not apologize at all for what I said or how I said it, I stand by it in full and mean every word of it as long as conservatives and Christians can be called that here.

Again you deliver a whining Pee Wee Herman 'they do it so I can do it' justification for your outrageously stupid claim:

XX@3.2.14 ☞The militantly secular progressive left is America’s Taliban

If someone claimed:  'Right-leaning Christians are America's Taliban' that would be equally outrageous and stupid.

It has been claimed often here and other places where political debate takes place that the Christian conservatives are the American Taliban.  I’m glad that you now think it’s stupid and outrageous.  Sometimes it takes fire to fight fire and so after seeing so much of that from militant secularists, turning the tables was fair play and that some were particularly offended by it made doing it all the more worthwhile, especially since they never objected when their kind called us that term.

'Now' is wrong;  I have never thought it correct to make utterly ridiculous exaggerations.

Pretty pathetic attempting to give yourself credit for opening my eyes when I have not made any change in my position.

See this is the kind of game that causes people to never agree on anything.   You take agreement as a sign of weakness in my position and pounce on it like a starved rat  finding a morsel of food.   This tactic encourages people to find a way to disagree even on points of agreement because they know that often times their interlocutor will simply play games as you have.

According to our founding fathers and the Declaration of Independence we were created by a creator who created us as equals in His sight.  It was written there that He is the source of all of our inalienable human rights.  He is the source of natural law they refer often to.  The only God who is so designated. The universe and nature leave many real hints as to their intelligent design.  We are one nation under God, indivisible…We recognize this in America by having In God we Trust as our national motto.

Nonsense. We were never the Abrahamic God's equals.

It was written there that He is the source of all of our inalienable human rights.

Manure.  Every government on this planet decides what the rights of it's citizan/residents are.

In our special place, some states think they can decide what our rights are as well.

He is the source of natural law they refer often to.  The only God who is so designated. The universe and nature leave many real hints as to their intelligent design.

Twaddle.  No proof. Every death I have ever witnessed reinforced my conclusions that the first form of government control was religion.

We are one nation under God, indivisible…

A cold war meme to assure the masses...( 1954, not the FF )

We recognize this in America by having In God we Trust as our national motto.

Another Cold War meme the Founding Fathers would never have allowed, replacing "E pluribus unum" in 1956.

"Out of many, one", an incredible oath of universal defiance to our enemies, sold out as dependent on the "feelings" of

a not so beneficent god.

How droll.

Manure.  Every government on this planet decides what the rights of it's citizan/residents are.

The founders said government was ordained by God to preserve and protect the human rights he gave us. Some governments like Iran and China do choose to trample all over the rights of their people.  Ours has no excuse as our founding document instructs it in this regard.  As to states and rights, there are states rights in our federalist system.

Twaddle.  No proof. Every death I have ever witnessed reinforced my conclusions that the first form of government control was religion.

It’s what the founding fathers believed and wrote about in their writings and our founding documents.  They and most generations of Americans to this day believe it to be so. We have separation of church and state here which means that neither should directly interfere in the operation of the other. Government has more control for now over religion than tbd other way around at the moment.

Most of our religious heritage originated at the founding and we will cling to 1776 America and all of the references within that to God and religion and never ever let go of it.  Period.  There were other religious references and national days of prayer and credit for our nations blessings given to God all through our history.  We relied on God in the civil war, and other wars.  President Roosevelt prayed to God on national radio on D-day. Reagan often referred to God saying we’d be a nation gone under if we ceased being one under God.  Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Trump often referenced God in their speeches and proclamations.  That the pledge change and adding another motto happened in the cold war against atheism does not in any way diminish them.  Fighting atheism is a legitimate motivation and objective.  Us theists will never give up our founding, the documents, or our history full of contributions from religion and religious people.  This is a part of the culture war we will never surrender to our secularist domestic enemies who want to erase our history and culture and rewrite it in their own secular progressive elites image.

Go back, read what you wrote and weep.  If you meant something else, you should have been more specific.

The founders said government was ordained by God to preserve and protect the human rights he gave us.

I have to hand it to you.  You not only live in denial, you double down constantly.

God did not ordain the FF and the FF certainly denied basic rights to almost 80% of the population based on

gender, race or wealth.

Personally I don't care what you cling to, or how many politicians pander to their base by clinging to the Bible

unless they use it as a basis to create bad law.

No one cares about how persecuted you think you are.

Nope. TJ Specifically DID NOT name the creator and intentionally left it open to wide interpretation. You,   [removed]   are putting words in the mouth of one of the most brilliant minds (for a time) in history.

that shows creation was intentionally designed by a divine Creator.

And now, thanks to our fantastic production crew, I can bring millions of families along for the ride, celebrating creation and the Artist behind every fantastic critter,”

The evidence in nature for an intelligent designer is strong.

You say that, but offer nothing to support the claim. There is no "evidence" that you can present for ID that cannot be applied to fairies, leprechauns, or gnomes.

There is no proof or evidence for random chance and evolution.

That statement demonstrates total (willful) ignorance of evlution.

There is nothing but secular bigotry and intolerance and a total unwillingness to even see or consider alternatives  to counter the fact that God exists and has a plan for the future for everyone.

You want alternatives to be considered? Then offer up evidence for it. So far, y]all you offer is empty claims and religious rhetoric.

There is no fact or evidence the bigots who are intolerant of us and the sight of our beliefs that there is no God or that the God Christians worship doesn’t exist in the form and manner we proclaim Him to be.

You speak of alternatives, yet are unwilling to consider the alternative that that there is probably no god or that your beliefs are wrong!

As for your other following posts, is there some point?

This is great news!  A crowd funded documentary series about the truth and wonders of creation. There is much evidence for creation and the Creator in nature and in the universe.  This series looks good as it’s related crowd funded The Chosen has been.  The pro creation viewpoint will prevail despite the efforts of “pro science” bigots around the country and in academia to prevent it.
