It's been cloudy and rainy for the better part of the past 2 weeks. Today it stopped around noon, gave me a few hours for picture taking, and then started back up again (with a little thunder and lightening) while I was inside sorting the images for this post. Temps are pretty much back to normal, though, so at least there's that.
Thursday was cloudy, but mostly rain free, and that evening I...
The Garden Chronicles - Week 5
By: Dig • Gardening • 58 comments • 4 years ago
This week's blog post almost didn't happen. Mother Nature just doesn't want to cooperate. It was rainy and unseasonably cool all week. As such, there's been very little growth, and this week's garden looks about the same as last week's. Fortunately, it was dry the past 2 days, and I was finally able to mow and get a little work done in the garden (raking up bucketfuls of rocks washed out by...
The Garden Chronicles - Week 4

It was cloudy the first half of the week. It even rained another inch on Tuesday, but the sun was shining on both Thursday and Friday, and things have mostly dried out.
*****
Muck no more.
I was able to bring the soil back to good condition today.
Peas and cucumber.
I don't know if this little guy's gonna make it. All the rain last week might have nearly drowned him, so soon...
The Garden Chronicles - Week 3

Ah, spring. Cold turns to warmth, brown turns to green, and flowers begin to bloom as the sun climbs higher in the sky with each passing day. The earth practically begs to be worked, and so, without hesitation, you work it. A warm breeze, the sun on your face, the faint but crisp smell of earth being turned. Few things are better. You've been looking forward to it all winter.
There's...

The Challenge
Seeding is a clumsy process. Source articles have very different structures, embed advertisements and other distractions, including at times complex HTML that screws up the formatting. Time must be spent copying & pasting contents and then cleaning up the resultant mess in NT. On top of that, the process of downloading an appropriate image so that it can be uploaded...
The Garden Chronicles - Week 2

It turned cool this week and the asparagus slowed down. It's still coming up, but not explosively. It actually frosted lightly on a couple of nights, but the apple blossoms seem to have survived. Hopefully the frost is over for good now. I'm ready for steady, dependable warmth.
I staked out some rows and planted the first small batches of beets, turnips, and two kinds of carrots, along with...
Let's Have Some Fun

With social distancing, working from home and generally staying inside I have taken to binging on different TV shows. Right now I am working through different shows on the Travel Channel. I am currently watching one on the Alaskan Triangle. Mysteries have always intrigued me whether they be crime or paranormal. I just like to try to figure things out. I also like scary things (haunted...
The Garden Chronicles - Week 1

Hi, all. For a long time I've wanted to make a photo record of my garden growing from start to finish, and I've decided to give it a try this year. I thought I'd share some of it here on a weekly basis as I go.
Please note that I make no claim of being an expert gardener. It's just a hobby for me, so this isn't intended to be a how-to blog or anything. I'm not much of a photographer, either,...

Conservative media heroes?

Well here we have it folks. After all the talk about the left wing media, how they cannot be trusted, a montage from the right wing showing their stupidity.
Watch them go from actually denying and downplaying what this virus could do to actually saying they took it seriously all along.
What gets me the most is they have the nerve to point fingers at others.
Listen to themselves say the...
The Passing of a Former Newsviner
By: sandy-2021492 • Farewell to Bluebird Sister • 21 comments • 4 years ago
I know several people here will remember Bluebird Sister from our days together on Newsvine. I am sorry to say, she passed away a few days ago of complications of COPD and a viral infection (not Covid-19). One of her siblings had access to her Facebook account, and asked that we share the news with her Newsvine friends.
Fly high, Bluebird Sister....
