Unbelievably Easy Movie Quiz for Beginners

When I administered the Classic Cinema group and posted quizzes about classic movies I was told by members that the movies were made before they were born and they never saw them. In fact there was so little interest in real classic movies that I deleted the group. Since then I created a group that includes ALL movies and it appears to achieve a little more interest. So I posted an article about what I thought were unusual movies, although some members did not think some of them were particularly unusual.  Nowhere Man posted every one of those movies so they could be watched by the members, at least they could watch the ones they had not already seen. So I posted a quiz about those movies. As I expected he would, only Nowhere Man fully answered the quiz, and one other member tried only one question and got it right. Nobody else even tried. Were you all so very intimidated and embarrassed that you might not have so much knowledge of movies that you were given the opportunity to watch?

Okay, “movie mavens”, looking for some of you to even TRY to answer a quiz about more recent movies, here is one to try, and if you can’t get at least 3 of the questions correct, I suggest you read books instead of watching movies.

1. What was the name of the famous ship that was considered unsinkable but sank due to collision with an iceberg?

512

2. Finish this name of a movie that Kevin Costner starred in: "Field of _______". (Hint: It is a 6 letter word.)

512

3. What country did Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) end up in, in the movie "The Shawshank Redemption"?

512

There are some members here who will call me a racist for posting that picture - lol. Me a racist, happily married to a woman of a different race and comfortably living in her country among her people for a decade.

4. Rhett Butler's (Clark Gable's) last word in the movie Gone With the Wind was: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a _______." (Hint: It is considered by some to be a profanity.)

512

5. True or False? A famous movie to watch at Christmas time is named: "Miracle on 52nd Street".

512

Those weren't too hard, so now here's some really HARD ones.

6. What was the name of the dog in the movie The Wizard of Oz?

512

7, Who is this captain of the space ship Enterprise in Star Trek? (Both the screen and real names are required for the answer.) (Buzz note:  I amended this question due to the fact that it was originally misleading.  Both TomCraig and Paula Bartholomew caught my mistake.)

512

8. In what movie were the "Letters of Transit" important to gain freedom? (Hint: The song "As Time Goes By" is sung in the movie.)

512

9. What colour was the Beatles’ submarine? (Hint: It wasn’t bluish.)

512

And now, the "killer" question....

10. What kind of seafood did Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) get rich from? (Hint: It's a 6 letter word that starts with an "s".)

512

I think that even people who DON’T watch movies should be able to answer those questions. If enough members try to answer this quiz I’ll post one that will actually be a challenge.

To answer the questions, please send them to me in a private note and I will reply right away with the correct answers.  However, if you are not able to send me a private note, wait until Sunday and answer in a comment below.  Please do not comment with your answers below before Sunday so that those who need a few days to figure out the answers are not guided by yours, and on Monday I will publish all the answers in a comment below.

If on Sunday you want to provide your answers, or a comment at any time and you are not a member of the “Everyone Loves Movies - Classic to Recent” group, just click on this link and it will take you to the group page where you can click on a link that says “Join the Group” and you will automatically become a member:

Good Luck, everyone.

Take a break from the news of horrible things that are happening these days and have a little fun, and rest your mind with some easy stuff.

Remember: Read the instructions at the end of the article and do not post your answers here until Sunday, or else send me a Private Note with them at any time and I will reply with the answers.

I think from now on I will put the instructions at the TOP of the article, so now I'll have to make a new quiz, but I may as well make it a little harder.

Unfortunately, as this was a promoted group article, I can't lock it, but I'll post the next one directly on the forum so it can be locked and then reopened in a few days.

Wiki Wonder Wienerdog?  (or is that Wiki Wiener Wonderdog?)

Not the right answer, but definitely a "Gold Star" dog.

Why not give it another try and keep them at this level, LOL!

Don't damn me, I'm not the one who blew it. LOL

It was because you once told me that not everyone watched the old classics and there were no questions about more current movies that I created this EASY (more current movie) quiz.  The next one will be a little harder, but not as difficult as the one I did for the unusual movies that Nowhere Man posted.

Did you see my Pretty Woman article?

I am surprised, I have actually seen some of these movies and shows.

In fact there is a framed reprint for #8 hanging on the wall in the room in which I spend most of my time.

The answer you are looking for number 7 is partially wrong.  Christopher Pike was the original Captain of the USS Enterprise and was portrayed by Jeffrey Hunter.

7, Who was the captain of the space ship Enterprise in the original series of Star Trek? (Both the screen and real names are required for the answer.)

Based upon the first episode televised, it was James Tiberius Kirk, Captain of the Enterprise in the first aired episode, "The Man Trap"

We don't see Christopher Pike mentioned anywhere until episode eleven "The Menagerie" in which elements of the pilot episode ("The Cage" never televised during the series entire run) was used to create a fake court marshal with the assistance of the Talosians to give Spock cover for his breach of most of starfleet regulations to get his friend to a place where he could view himself as whole again...

AS such, and under Canon rules laid out by Gene himself, James T Kirk was the first captain of the Enterprise.

Pike was only in a couple episodes and portrayed by different people; but he was the Captain in the pilot episode "The Cage" with Majel Barret playing his First Officer.  The only cast member who was a regular in the series and kept their role from the pilot was Leonard Nimoy.  Majel Barret was the only other of the pilot cast to be with the show, but she mainly did the voice of the computer.

Well according to Gene Roddenberry, William T Kirk was the first. Yes he used Christopher C Pike in the Pilot episode when selling the series to the network, and on a timeline basis yes Pike came before Kirk in the enterprise chain of commanders.

He first appeared in the series in the eleventh episode "The Menagerie" a two part episode which dealt with Spock stealing the enterprise to take his former commander to Talos IV after he had been horribly injured in an accident. They used extensive footage from the pilot to show why spock did this and the court martial scenes were contrived with the aid of the Telosians to delay the regaining of control of the enterprise until they reached Talos IV....

Technically by storyline Pike was the captain before Kirk, but the first captain of the Enterprise as broadcast was James Tiberius Kirk, William Shatner. That is how Gene laid it out when asked that exact question.

AND, if we are going to go by star trek universe timeline, Commander Jonathan Archer, Scott Bakula, was the first captain of a federation starship named enterprise, the NX-01....

A century before either Pike or Kirk. At the dawn of the United Federation of Planets

I believe that Buzz was referring to the original Star trek series and who appeared in that series as the first revealed in the series. Leaving all the trek timeline arguments to the trekkies amongst us.

And, by production Pike was the first Enterprise Captain, since the pilot is used as the means to get studios and stations to take on a full project.  Without Pike, there would have been no Kirk.

As an aside, my favorite scene from the movies actually occurs in the film that is not considered "canon", Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.  It's when Scotty is walking and talking about knowing the ship like the back of his hand, then hits his head on an overhead pipe...

Yeah, they are going to be arguing "canon" for the rest of their lives..., like who did what to whom with what snowblower and when..... Not for me. Gene said Kirk was the first cause he was first on the air, good enough for me...

That's a good one...

Kirk is standing on the rock and watches the disruptor cannon slowly move to cover him the look on his face is priceless..... Knows he's going to die right there.....  only to find out that spock is manning the cannon.....

Lots of greatness in the series both Movie and TV....

And then, we have "Spocks Brain"

I am a trekkie, they say you have to recognize what you are before you can recover.....

LOL.  My first laugh of the morning. Thanks Tom.

My favourite episode of Star Trek was the movie where they go back in time to bring the extinct whales to the future in order to save the planet.

Let me see if I can get it out of the recycling bin. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Personally, Walter Koenig's best role was as Alfred Bester on Babylon 5.  He had the right mix of being a bastard and ruthlessness for a character that was mostly a bad guy who had good moments and sometimes good intentions.

It was Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter) who was the earlier Captain and Spock served under him.  Hunter was actually considered for the role of James T. Kirk, but his wife talked him out of it, saying the show would go nowhere.  Silly woman.
