That's so bizarre. Whenever my wife and I cruise to Mexico I go out of my way to photograph pelicans. I have no idea why, but pelicans and churches are almost the only things I take pictures of when I'm down there. The birds have a very strong personality, probably because they see so many people. I try to take a lot of church pictures not for religious reasons since I'm an atheist, but I really admire the architecture and work that went into building them. I don't have a professional camera, but the Polaroid one I'm taking when we go in December is better then the last one, so I'm hoping to get some good shots this time.
I'm with you Randy . Pelicans have about the most "character" of any birds that humans commonly encounter . Perhaps its because they are accustomed to being fed in the wild by fisherman leaving them their bait buckets at the end of the work day .
I always like it when I can agree with someone I normally won't. It happened with Betty Boop also. I haven't any idea of why I like taking pictures of them, but it's at the point where my wife will point one out to me to photograph if I didn't notice it.
Like you said, it has to be because they have such a prominent personality.
Any bird that can stand on 1 leg on a pier post is worth getting acquainted with ... I used to help out at a sea bird sanctuary to take care of sick or injured sea birds . It was very satisfying ... except for the bird poop !
Now is something HAVE I have to get a pic of! They're all over the place in Cabo the most, but I did get a couple of shots of one on the railing of the ship, catching a free ride.
A wonderful bird is the pelican, His bill will hold more than his belican, He can take in his beak Enough food for a week But I'm damned if I see how the helican!
Fly on over.

Take a look at this link . This pelican is being really goofy !
The shot with a whole group of them all together was a great pic. I'd love to get that, but with my luck they'd fly off just before i hit the button
I think they are using London time on these comments unless all my clocks are screwed up, I'm in a time warp or everyone has moved to London.
Agree Six; the time stamps are from another time zone … planet maybe?
I love pelicans! They're so neat!
"I love pelicans! They're so neat!"
And they often fill the bill!
It's lonely recently.
Then go to where you directed others to go.
Buzz,
It's been even more lonely at the link; but maybe now it's more populated -- heading over to see.
A Wonderful Bird is the Pelican

A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His bill will hold more than his belican,
He can take in his beak
Enough food for a week
But I'm damned if I see how the helican!
