New Found Stream

Today I found a small stream deep in a Pocono Mountain forest. It's quite likely near the source of one of the streams in the region with which I am otherwise familiar, but, because of the density of the rhododendron and other vegetation, unless wading in the stream itself, there's no following it beginning to end without losing sight of it along the way.

It's sublime where i walked this past late afternoon; the dense forest, deep shadows and dappled light struck awe, fear, a spiritual feeling and, made me ask my self, "What's a guy of your age doing by himself this far in the woods?"

There's more along this "trail" I need to see and photograph … but I might invite a photographer friend of mine to join me next time.

Anyway, I took some video (which I uploaded then deleted because the last two videos I posted were full of choppiness; they're just fine on my computer but not on the site. I'll talk to Perrie about it.

Here's a picture of "my" New Found Stream; I hope it stirs in you, at least a little of what I felt while being in the actual moment.

Once I post a full resolution version to my website, I'll post a link to that version.

A happy Easter to those who celebrate it.

Very pretty! Any spots deep enough for trout?

There were several place where it looked as though small, wild Brook Trout were feeding. Eventually I'll go in with a fly rod.

I envy you that! My step-mother's father used to take me trout fishing when I was young before he passed away. I could never quite get the hang of it, but he was a master at landing the fly exactly where he wanted it. It's an art form. Good luck finding some!

Can't you just imagine a two to two and a half pounder lurking in one of those holes, behind the rocks????

OMG - what a joy.

Reminds me of home, my childhood home.

Don't get to see babbling brooks like that out here.

Is it possible that it could be a Spring stream that could dry up once the weather gets hot? Perhaps you won't know that until you see it again in the summer.

In the meantime, I would love to be the photographer accompanying you on those trips in the mountains. Well, maybe one day....

I do think the possibility exists and I have seen over the years, some of the Pocono streams go dry.

Development of new communities in the area takes it toll of ground water and warmer winters and summers do the same.

And hopefully one day you'll show up in my neighborhood and hit the trail together.

A Mac

The kind of place that just makes you want to stop, sit down and enjoy that which Mother Nature has presented for our enjoyment.

Thanks for sharing

Well, I could not stay away … I went back a while ago, took a lot of pictures and some video (which I hope can be viewed on NT without the sluggishness).

Heading back to Philly and hope to post some of today's pictures tonight.

Mac,

Love your description of your new adventure. You have a young heart and should never hesitate going somewhere new and exciting. Adventure is a joy of life.

Love the photo. The stones are so unique, covered lightly in green.

Glad you took that walk. Look what you did with it!

I did indeed; but I just posted another from yesterday … a shot taken from the mountain meadow just before entering the woods.

I have some really nice video from today, yesterday and a week ago … but they seem to have a problem once uploaded to the site … the videos are sluggish and the audio broken up. Can you check the first video on my video tab and see if the problem is at the upload process?

Hi Mac,

I just checked the video and this is what's happening. It's loading slower than but showing that it's ready to play. To fix that, all I did was drag the video back to the beginning and then let it play and it was perfect. Please let me know if this continues and I will let the jamroom guys know.

I just checked the video and it's better than it was … the audio especially; but the video is still somewhat sluggish, almost as if some of the frames are taken out.

I'll try posting another tomorrow.
