By Joni Edelman Feminist, body positive, wife, mom of five, Editor In Chief at ravishly.com, (sometimes) RN .

I spend so much in Target, sometimes I look at my bank statement and think, someone stole my ATM card.

Then I realize, Oh, shit. That was actually just me, three times last week.

Target knows what's up. They entice you with brightly-colored plastic and seasonal cups that will either: A. break or B. get lost -- probably within a week of purchase. And that's just the tip of the skillfully-crafted, Orla Kiely-iceberg. Target has devised ways to steal your money -- like some kind of commercial conglomerate ninja -- all while making you think it was your idea.

1. Starbucks.

You're going to need a muffin, too.

Technically, this isn't Target. It's inside Target. Guilt by association. You're going to need sustenance. Namely, a Frappuccino. Also probably a muffin or some other baked good. This is a scam because A) The caffeine is going to hype you up and make you forget how much money you set out to spend and B) The muffin sugar is going to reduce your defenses. You are now out $8 and the caffeine-induced mania will make you stop at the Dollar Spot.

See the 9 other ways Target gets your money .

I can't do Target. I'm stuck back in the day when a cup of coffee was called 'a cup of coffee' ... and it cost 20 cents.

That was back when keyboards had the 'cents' symbol on them ..... and 'keyboards' were called typewriters.

Dear Friend Jerry Verlinger: There is the famous Catskill joke about the police detective who advises a man they caughta pickpocket who had stolen the man's credit card. The investigator wanted to know why the man never filed a police report, or let the credit card company know the card was stolen?

I know it was stolen, said the man. I never reported it. Once he got the card away from my teenagers, the monthly bill was much lower.

I go there to search their sale racks for cheap, cheap, cheap deals on shirts and jeans. That's it. Oh and a package of briefs (can't have too much underwear. It means longer times between washing clothes) My only real complaint is the the rooms to try things on are always at the opposite end of the store in the women's department!!!!

Then my wife doesn't come to the fitting room and I guarantee that she'll say "What did you get that for???!!!" like last time we went and got Levi's denim biker vest! For $15 bucks!!!!!! Great deal!!!!

I know Target does a better job with its supplier relations, thus has more loyalty from them than say Wall-mart.

Every time we are in there or Marshalls or TJ Maxx, etc., I always grab some! Of course it does make it more unpleasant when you actually DO have to do the laundry.Tongue.gif

I have found that the women's clothing at target is made for women that are 6' tall and weigh 90 pounds. And it is more expensive than going to J C Penny's and buying things, especially when they're on sale. I bought a sweater there once, that went down to my knees. I wore it anyway, but everything there is long and tubular. Being a short, round person, nothing there fits. At least at Penny's I can buy petites.

I buy my son some things there, but not much. They have good decoration items, but they're expensive. I like their dog Halloween costumes, too! Grin.gif

Other than that, I'll shop elsewhere.

My wife shops on line, but for antique or antique style clothing and then tears it apart and assembles (hand sews) it to her size and liking, adding or subtracting material if she chooses to. It's her hobby.

In the 20 + years I have known her and been married to her, I can honestly say I don't think I have ever seen her purchase (except for leggings and underwear and such) clothes from a store. She even buys her jeans online, knowing she can adjust them if she has to. Or seen her in a dress either, except the day we marred.

I don't know about that Fly, I would think, considering the difference in the numbers, it would not take much for a supplier to muster up a reasonable amount of 'loyalty' to Wal-Mart.
