Report: Several killed in shooting at Munich shopping mall

(CNN) [Breaking news alert, posted at 1:57 p.m. ET Friday]

At least one shooter is still on the loose after a shooting inside a McDonald's at Munich's Olympia shopping mall Friday, police spokeswoman Claudia Küntzel said.

"There could be several dead and one or even several shooters are on the loose," Küntzel said.

The shooting at the McDonald's happened around 5:50 p.m. (11:50 a.m. ET), she said.

It's unclear whether shootings have occurred at other locations, and whether the gunfire has stopped.

Lynn Stein, who said she works at the Jack Wolfskin store in the mall, told CNN that the shooter was inside the mall.
"I heard several shots," Stein said. "(I) was just going to buy something while my co-worker was still in the shop.
"People started running. I went outside as well; more people (were) running outside. I think I heard more shots. Then it sounded like he went to the parking house next to the mall -- several shots there."

There was a terrorist attack on a train there just the other day too. Hard to keep track of the terrorist acts going on these days.

Which is weird. Because the terrorists are on the run, according to the President.

No, I still don't think it should have been on tv here for 5 hours straight.

They had no facts, all speculation and rumor. It is fear mongering.

Shooter wore army boots (Springerstiefel). Typical for right-wing extremists.

So now its news?   How quickly it goes from not being worth  being shown on television and simple fear mongering to worth multiple replies from you.

I assume you are creating 5 posts arguing the shooter was just a mentally deranged petty criminal and that its impossible to know his motive for the shootings despite him saying "kill all foreigners" or something to that effect. If you care about consistency.

This is breaking news Sean. If the breaking news conformed with what was previously on the thread there would be no need for additional posts.

In the spirit of breaking news:

A gunman shouting 'Allahu Akbar' opened fire at children in McDonald's before rampaging through a shopping mall, killing at least eight people.

Munich is in lockdown tonight, as a major police operation is ongoing around the city's Olympic Park, with the force warning people to stay in their homes and avoid public spaces.

A ninth body has been found tonight and investigators are looking into the possibility of it being the attacker.

Terrified shoppers were seen running for their lives from the Munich Olympia Shopping Centre, in the district of Moosach, after hearing gunshots.

Witnesses said that the gunman screamed 'I'm German' and 'Allahu Akbar' before shooting at children.

A woman named Loretta said she was in the McDonald's when the man with a gun came out of a bathroom and began shooting.

She told CNN: 'I come out of the toilet and I hear like an alarm, boom, boom, boom. He's killing the children. The children were sitting to eat. They can't run.'

Loretta said she had been in the bathroom at the same time as the shooter, with her eight-year-old son. She said the man yelled: 'Allahu Akbar!'

John, you seem to love emphasizing the term "right wing", as though it means the same thing in this country as it does in Germany.  FYI: the term "right wing" in Germany essentially means Nazi.  Those on the political right in this country aren't even close to that.

They should not even be showing this on American television. It serves no purpose, and for the most part, there isn't even any news. The incident happened over four hours ago and still the tv people have little information to pass on. All they are doing is hosting a fear mongering session.

Your sense of freedom of speech/press is thankfully mollified by the US constitution. Perhaps you prefer that people have their head buried in the sand for their own good, which seems like a lazy and disturbing solution, to debilitate ignorance and share information.

Maybe so … but do not discount the possibility of NEO-NAZIs protesting MUSLIMS in Germany.

And you can read between the lines.

Either way, there is not as of this posting, any confirmation as to the identity or ideological motivation of the shooter(s).

And today is the fifth anniversary of

Anders Behring Breivik's murders of LIBERALS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, THAT BECAUSE OF THEIR IDEOLOGY OF TOLERANCE.

The man charged with killing 77 people in Norway was found sane and sentenced to prison for at least 21 years.

 A NEO-NAZI ACT OF HATRED!

There are reports that the shooter was shouting anti-immigrant extreme right wing insults while he was shooting. Right wing neo-Nazi groups have been trying to get Turks out of Germany (many who were born in Germany) since after WWII who were brought in to rebuild because most of the German men of working age had died during the war. I think we should all wait for more information.

The scary part imo is that islamic terrorists and ultra nationalists would have some of the same goals...

"Maybe so … but do not discount the possibility of NEO-NAZIs protesting MUSLIMS in Germany."

A plausible explanation, but why shoot innocent Germans unless it was to act like Muslim immigrants (in order to lay the blame on them), and shouting Allahu Akbar is evidence of that fact if he was not a Muslim immigrant. However, it is of interest that he was a German-IRANIAN (if the reports are correct).

Perhaps he felt picked on or teased or even hated for being Iranian, but may have actually considered himself a German first? Hard to tell what his motive was.

This is the 5th anniversary of the Anders Breivik attack in Norway. He is a neo-Nazi and neo-Nazi supporters regard him as a hero. A producer for MSNBC reports that German media is looking into it as a homage to him. Connection?

The killer is described by the police as an 18 year old German-Iranian.

No motive given so far.

Huseyin Bayri, a witness of the shooting, said he heard the attacker screaming out that he will kill "foreigners."
"I heard a scream at first: 'You shitty [bleep] foreigners. I am German. You will get it.'"

This was one screwed up kid (18 year old). I don't see this as an Islamic attack as much as a scream from a very confused young man who wanted to die and take foreigners." with him. Screaming that he is a German makes me think he was torn badly between being German and Iranian and not know who or what he was.
