NOAA Picks Stunning Winners of First-ever Weather Photo Contest
On Tuesday, NOAA announced the winners of its first-ever public photo contest, showcasing dazzlingviews of weather from the around the nation. Professional and amateurs photographers submitted over 2,000photos of all kinds of weather phenomenon.
A panel of judges, including myself, helped select first, second and third place and honorable mention in four categories:
- Professional photography, including submissions from anyone who receives remuneration for taking photographs
- Weather, water and climate, [i]magesdepict both the subtle and extreme power of weather and climate
- Science in action, [i]magesdepict researchers working in field or laboratory settings
- In the iMoment, [i]mages in this category were taken with a camera phone.
All of the award winners will be displayed in a Gateway to NOAA exhibit in Silver Spring, beginning in July.

I have heard of the buttermilk sky, my oldest lives out in the middle of nowhere Missouri (a real place I think ) and he takes a lot of sunrise, sunset and weather related pictures and shares them with his mom and me.
