It's a Martian Desert … Uhhmm … No! It's Arches National Park and a NASA "Sky"!

I don't think it's that much of a stretch; except for the plant life in the scene, the geology of Arches National Park (Moab, Utah) is a plausible, conceptual vision of what a Martian desert might look like.

Maybe next time I get fed up with the FP, instead of heading to the Western U.S., I'll travel to Mars, take pictures there, then subsequently post pictures of the Martian landscape with a Utah, desert sky.

Could work.

These are fun to do (when they "work" that is); a major challenge is making the "believable" even though it's clear … they are fantasy pix and not to be believed.

Always interested in opinions/critiques/comments … pro or con.

Before you can travel to Mars (Red Planet), you'll have to get a passport issued by, wait for it, Red Americans..

Great photo, Mac.

Not so sure Mars has plants growing on it, but other than that, it's plausible.

I noted that "discrepancy" above the image, Buzz. A great thing about doing "fantasy" images is that accuracy is not requisite to otherwise plausible, say, "science fiction" conceptualization.

Got more of these and, will continue to create more as well.

Love the colors

Sometimes the colors don't work, even in "fantasy" images … I can't even put in to words what exactly makes it work when it does … probably has to do with how the ambient light might consistently affect all of the hues, tints and shades.

Everything works, so-to-speak in the real world, even if certain views aren't necessarily pleasing … that may have something to do with our expectations and presuppositions … my Masters thesis … "The Role of Presupposition in the Perception of Art."

If I can find the TYPEWRITTEN paper (pre-computer days), maybe I'll post some of the ideas.

Where the hell did I file that thing?

Well when we finally get there we can introduce plant life to Mars.  I can't wait.  I thought when I was young that we'd have already been there by now.
