In general, artistic works that are not just "art-for-art's-sake ," are often referred to referred to as "functional art."
When I did my Masters Thesis entitled "The Role of Presupposition in the perception of Art," I included a quote by (I think it was E.H. Gombrich), namely, "A painting of a bowl of fruit would taste more like any other painting, than it would like a bowl of fruit."
At first it seems to be a foolish notion until one begins to consider what it means artistically and philosophically to make a picture of a real object. The picture is a real picture but its "representational" subject matter is not "real" in the same way.
I love to analyze graphic art and do crazy stuff like "consider the meaning of the meaning."
There are chefs in many high-end restaurants who produce plates with meals that are truly artistically and aesthetically beautiful. I believe it's sometimes called "food plating".
Thanks for the feedback and the excellent point on the process of functional art
In my view, if this type of art has made a person (or persons) think about how good the subject matter would taste or to want to try it, then the piece is a huge success
I know what you mean, it is just the wife and I and we rend towards good, nutritious food with no rills most days, but when the kids or other family are in attendance she pulls out some of her tricks to brighten up the table
You're welcome RIO! I wonder how long it took to create the floral arrangement from the watermelon....I wouldn't have the patience and I certainly don't have the talent to do anything like that!
Beautiful to look at and tastes good too!

One might opine that it is as tasty as it is tasteful
One of my favorite deserts !!!!
We do the same thing preparing meals that generate a second "leftover meal" either later in the week or into the freezer.
Food for thought, RIO.

Perhaps even a morsel of knowledge to be digested
