Curious Bugs Have Staring Contest With Camera

Here's looking at you!

Eye eye: These two Damselflies are up close and personal

They may look like well-designed cute Disney characters, but these very real bugs have got their eyes on you.

An Italian photographer has perfected his very own brand of macro photography with these stunning pictures of bug's eyes up close.

Alberto Ghizzi Panizza, 40, has been a photographer for 18 years and specialises in macro-images - extreme close-up photography, usually of very small subjects.

Bright eyes: The Damselfly's eyes up close show their magnificent colours in exquisite detail

All of these pictures were taken to capture bug's eyes up-close, showing the colours of their eyes in exquisite detail.

He said: "I'm deeply fond of nature and animals and always look for the beauty in the world around us.

"You have to find the perfect position with the right angulation and the perfect distance from the lens and the subject."

For the technically minded, Alberto uses a Nikon D7200 and a D810 with the lens generally around 40mm away.

A bug's life: Damselflies are similar to dragonflies and are found on every continent except Antarctica

Looks like something from a si fi movie! Beautiful! We've really seen some excellent insect and bird photographs on here lately and I hope we see even more!

The photos are wonderful. Beauty in all forms of life. And we think we can improve on mother nature.

I posted some photos of spiders yesterday in another article. Funny and wonderful.

It's obvious where the term "bug-eyed" comes from.

I wonder how many movie special effects artists use the natural world for parts of their monster creatures in movies? I would imagine the number would be quite high.

Buzz

I had not thought of that, but I got agree that these shots clearly demonstrate that characterization

Thanks for the feedback

I would venture that many of the "creatures" that we have seen in animation and in movies are born of ideas generated from nature

Thanks for the perspective and feedback
