In The Lord's Arms
(See first comment for YouTube video)
Like the wings stolen from an angel
Like petals gone from a rose
Like a dove caught in a storm
Tonight he's in the Lord's Arms
The wind it blew straight through us
And whispered to me in tongues
I was told, I was warned
Tonight he would be in the Lord's Arms
Tonight he is in the Lord's Arms
So I drink this wine to him
With each glass, a memory
He left with his crown of thorns
Tonight he's in the Lord's Arms
Tonight he's in the Lord's Arms
Tonight he's in the Lord's Arms
Like the wings stolen from an angel
Like petals gone from a rose
Like a dove caught in a storm
Tonight he's in the Lord's Arms
The wind it blew straight through us
And whispered to me in tongues
I was told, I was warned
Tonight he would be in the Lord's Arms
Tonight he is in the Lord's Arms
So I drink this wine to him
With each glass, a memory
He left with his crown of thorns
Tonight he's in the Lord's Arms
Tonight he's in the Lord's Arms
Tonight he's in the Lord's Arms
In The Arms Of The Angel (Sarah McLachlan)
Spend all your time waiting
For that second chance
For a break that would make it okay
There's always some reason
To feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
Or a beautiful release
Memories seep from my veins
Let me be empty
Oh and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
In the arms of the angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
So tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
The storm keeps on twisting
Keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference
Escaping one last time
It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness
Oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees
In the arms of the angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
You're in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
The song was used in the 1998 movie "City of Angels" which starred Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan.
Back in the 1990s when I was involved with Variety Club of Ontario, we had an international convention of Variety Clubs International (Variety - The Children's Charity) in Vancouver. I was leaving my hotel to go to the Convention concert site and Sarah McLachlan, who would be performing at the concert, was on her way there as well, so we shared a cab. During the mic check for the concert I was sitting with my colleague Bob Hall (a prominent Toronto lawyer and brother of Monty Hall, the MC of "Let's Make a Deal") and Sarah was at the mic. She sang with a falsetto shift now and then, which I thought was very effective, and thought she was pretty good, but Bob said to me "She's horrible. She'll never go anywhere." A year or two later Sarah made the cover of Time Magazine, as being the person who created the Lillith Festival, a festival of women singers that toured at least North America if not farther, to sellout audiences and accolades. I faxed the Time cover to Bob, reminding him of what the had said about her, but he refused to admit that he originally disparaged her.
In The Arms Of The Angel
I hate that song, but for a very good reason. It always chokes me up and make me want to cry.
Well that plus my late mother loved it and played it a lot!
For awhile they were using it in ASPCA ads to get people to contribute money. Sarah would talk about abused animals as they would show abused dogs and cats being found in horrible conditions and being saved as the song played in the background. Always broke me up. It hits my wife so hard she turns the channel.
Didn't they use it near the end of "Pay it Forward" too?
I watched "Pay it Forward" years ago and although I want to watch it again it isn't shown on the free web sites I use. I don't recall the music on it.
I seem to remember that they played it when the hundreds of cars headlights were coming up to the house in the dark.
For some reason I remember candles, but I may well be wrong. However, the many car headlights heading to the house was at the end of "Field of Dreams".
There is beauty even in the most unexpected places. I've loved this song for years, regardless of the words.
Hey, I'm an atheist and I love to take pictures of churches and especially Cathedrals. There is no denying that many are beautiful.
God Will Love Your Pain Away!
Being Healed by resting in the Lords arms!
In the movie "Pay It Forward", the only music that has words is "Calling All Angels" as far as I know.
Calling All Angels
Santa Maria, Santa Teresa, Santa Anna, Santa Susannah
Santa Cecilia, Santa Copelia, Santa Domenica, Mary Angelica
Frater Achad, Frater Pietro, Julianus, Petronilla
Santa, Santos, Miroslaw, Vladimir and all the rest
A man is placed upon the steps and a baby cries
High above you can hear the church bells start to ring
And as the heaviness, oh, the heaviness, the body settles in
Somewhere you can hear a mother sing
Then it's one foot, then the other as you step out on the road
Step out on the road, how much weight, how much?
Then it's how long and how far and how many times
Oh, before it's too late?
Calling all angels, calling all angels
Walk me through this one, don't leave me alone
Calling all angels, calling all angels
We're tryin', we're hopin' but we're not sure how
Oh, and every day you gaze upon the sunset with such love and intensity
Why?
It's ah, it's almost as if you could only crack the code then you'd finally understand
What this all means
Oh, but if you could, do you think you would trade in all
All the pain and suffering?
Oh, but then you'd miss the beauty of the light upon this earth
And the, and the sweetness of the leaving
Calling all angels, calling all angels
Walk me through this one, don't leave me alone
Calling all angels, calling all angels
We're tryin', we're hopin' but we're not sure how
Calling all angels (calling all angels), calling all angels (calling all angels)
Walk me through this one, don't leave me alone (walk me through this one, don't leave me alone)
Calling all angels, calling all angels
We're tryin', we're hopin', we're hurtin', we're lovin'
We're cryin', we're callin' 'cause we're not sure how this goes
