At one time or another I gave each of those to one of my sons as toys to play with. Though I actually had a Spirograph for myself when I was a kid. Loved it!
For me it was Lincoln Logs. The more you could talk your parents into buying them for your birthday or Christmas, the more and bigger forts and log cabins you could build. They were the Lego's of my childhood. Them and bags of plastic formed WWII soldiers. And then of course there was the Erector Set that used to be my father's when he was a kid. I also got his Red Ryder, carbine action BB gun from him. Back then you built and imagined things instead of just playing video games.
I remember them all! Loved spirograph and etch a sketch, too! Loved playing jacks and marbles...would go to school early to lay claim to the best hopscotch board! When the trains would come through town my friend and I would wave and yell hello to the conductor who would then toss us several big chunks of chalk they used for marking the cars...we'd use them the make our own hopscotch boards!
It was way cool getting the chalk...made excellent hopscotch boards! That same friend and I would play make-believe, too...pretending is probably the best toy of all...possibilities are endless! We would get all done up in the clothes her mom would collect for the church rummage sale...and walk around town like that...pretending we were all adult-like and everything at the ripe old age of 8! LOL!! Our best one was the time we set up her record player, stood on her porch lip-syncing to the Monkees and charged the neighborhood kids 10 each to watch us!!
We still have all of Matthew's Lincoln Logs-- I never had any, because it wasn't 'girly', but I loved to play with them at other people's houses.
I loved Tinker Toys, too, jennalee-- and located mine at my mother's house. All the rest are gone-- but I loved my Chatty Kathy, Barbie, Liddle Kiddles, but most of all, I loved my stuffed animals. I still have mine.
Well, the only reason I do is because I went to Mama's house and got them out of the attic when Matthew was born. I keep Smokey Bear and Pooh in my bedroom closet, just in case I need them!
I had a Meccano set - it was quite popular in the 1940s - it used little nuts and bolts to attach the girders to each other. There were sets with wheels and axles to enable building vehicles.
What were some of your favorite toys when you were a child??
One of my favorite "toys" was "Jacks".
I remember yo yo's, but I never mastered the art of doing it.
I can't even begin to tell ya how much trouble I got into with different variations of this...
;^)
Nona
I sure do and there is still a spirograph, an etch-a-sketch and a view master in the basement
Thanks for stirring up really good memories
$27.00???? WOW! I consider that pricey, but thenI'm not a collector.....

But, could you put them back together??
They did. Especially the Speak and Spell. But they LOVED these!
