Sad News For Cerenkov

I am very sad to report that our friend Cerenkov's father passed away yesterday after a long battle with COPD. Cerenkov was a very devoted son and has been taking care of his dad for the last 10 years. May the memories of his dad comfort him during this very sad times.

Thanks for all of the kind words. I appreciate it.

Does anyone have a suggested charity where I can donate Dad's wheelchair? It's only 6 months old.

This is one...

Also most vet groups would be happy to have a donation of a wheelchair.

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) would be one to contact, I'm sure that there is one in Columbia.

It depends on where you live. The Variety Club is in some major cities - it's a charity that supports disabled children and youths. They could always use a wheelchair to give to a kid who can't afford one.

Sorry about the loss of your father. How old was he?  Hopefully you got there in time to say goodbye and thank him for all he had done, perhaps even sacrificed, for your benefit, and most important to tell him you love him.

Hey C - just thinking about you today and hoping you're doing okay.  Take care and I hope to see you posting again soon.  FYI:  I am open to all smart aleck remarks or one liners and will even pretend that degrees make people smarter then those without.  devil

I'm sorry for your loss. Donations to any veteran's support organization are always appreciated.  AMVETs and the like.  Again, I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

Hi Cerenkov- I don't know if anyone already mentioned this, but a house of worship or a nursing home/rehab center might be interested. I took one of my (disabled) aunts to visit a family member who was in a rehab facility, and they had wheelchairs at the front door for our use.

Cerenkov - I am heart broken for you.  My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Moments before our walk that afternoon,
I realized the path ended too soon.
Not long enough to hold his hand,
this amazing person, this loving man.
Not long enough to engage his eyes
and remember his always brimming with pride.
Not long enough to stand by his side,
as he was by mine after every rough tide.
Not long enough to laugh with him still,
after every bad joke,
after every tough hill.
Not long enough to walk with this man,
who has taught me to be the person I am.
Not long enough as we walked by his wife,
to thank them both for my wonderful life.
In all the walks I’ve taken in my life,
first as a boy and now as a man,
I’ll remember that walk I took with my father
and always wish it could have been longer.

Cerenkov, I am new to NewsTalkers and have noticed you about and close. I recently experienced the death of a dear one to COPD after an enduring battle and set of challenges: This is my way of offering a song of sorrow, relief, and triumphant:

Have I given anything today?

Have I helped some needy soul along the way?

From the dawn til setting sun, have I wounded anyone?

Shall I weep for what I've done -  O my Lord, today.

All today, all today, all today.

Have I helped some needed soul along the way?

Just to know I've done my best

When I go to take my rest,

Let my name be with the blessed

Not tomorrow, Lord, but today.

Dear Friend Cerenkov: There is a time following the passing, memorial service, internment, and condolence call and card period when others move on with their lives.

For those left behind, time can hang heavy as they work through their emotions.

Know I am here for you and yours in such ways as you wish, respecting what is most dear to you.

I can be reached by private notes on this site.

Then through private emails, where such things best belong.

Meanwhile, may the memories of the good times, to values and acts of loving kindness of your dear Father bring consolation to you and yours.

May they inspire all of you to be for others what he was to you.

Enoch.
