Guess whose name Pope Francis didn't drop during his congressional speech
In his speech to Congress yesterday, Pope Francis mentioned many people by name. He mentioned President Lincoln; Martin Luther King, Jr.; Pope Benedict XV; Dorothy Day; Thomas Merton; and several other prominent historical figures. He spoke of their great achievements and sacrifices, and how they served to inspire many by their good works. But strangely enough, the one name Pope Francis failed to mention in his speech was Jesus Christ. It seems quite shocking that a man who is touted by millions of Catholics as being the Vicar of Christ would not have at least given a simple shout-out to the very foundation of the Catholic Church the one and only Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It seems that Pope Francis decided to ignore the great commission Jesus gave to his apostles in the Gospel of Matthew and chose instead to take the opportunity to speak to millions of Americans about political and environmental issues rather than the one thing that actually makes him pope: the saving grace and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. If Pope Francis is the traditional successor of the apostle Peter, then according to Peters teachings, he should be more concerned with spreading the gospel and less concerned with worldly issues of politics and the environment. It is obvious that Saint Peter didnt have any specific concerns with every human institution. By his own words, Peter indicates that Christians should not only submit to every human institution, but also understand that those institutions exist solely by the will of God as agents for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. The simple fact of the matter is that the apostle Peter, Jesus, nor any of the other apostles ever gave much attention in their teachings to human institutions.Jesus made it perfectly clear that the main focus of each and every apostle should always be on the great commission that he gave them to spread the Gospel to all nations and make as many disciples as they could.Read more: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2015/09/guess_whose_name_pope_francis_didnt_drop_during_his_congressional_speech.html#ixzz3mor07z6I Follow us: @AmericanThinker on Twitter | AmericanThinker on Facebook

That is kind of strange. Maybe he didn't want to offend anyone.

Sadly, by setting aside his divine directive to spread the gospel, and choosing instead to address political issues, Pope Francis missed a great opportunity to tell the story of the man with the name above all names: Jesus Christ.Read more: Follow us: @AmericanThinker on Twitter | AmericanThinker on Facebook

You are right that it's strange. As to the offend anyone part, it seems that offending Christians by not mentioning His name is an acceptable thing to do.

Pope Francis has made numerous prayers , services and references to faith during his days in America. Whether or not he mentioned Jesus during an address to Congress is incredibly irrelevant.

I realize that Robert, but the second one was his. The minute signature is now gone, but I checked before I posted my warning.

There are multiple biblical instructions bestowed upon the faithful, sharing the gospel but one. The apostles struggled with what was most important, who was doing the best job, etc.

If we rely on the ultimate instruction of Christ as written in Matthew 22...

The Greatest Commandment 37 And He said to him, "'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' 38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'

The Pope gets this.

I will take screenshots everyday of our front page. Everyday I have at least 8-10 articles on it from XX, which isn't fair to our other members. Bumping just adds to it. No other member has this many articles up.

I am not fielding complaints and he isn't being censored. That would mean I was taking down articles, which I am not. He gets no different treatment here than any other member and far better treatment here than he ever did at NV and I know that as a fact.

I can tell you that when i see an article i dislike i avoid it.

Great idea. But when you only have 10 articles to chose from, it's kind of hard to avoid.

It is strange that he would fail to mention the central individual of his religion.

By the way, the word "God" appears in the Pope's speech 9 times, he references the Gospels, he praises Moses, he talks about the "Creator" , and he talks about the unity of different religious denominations within the United States. He mentions three religious figures, Martin Luther King Jr, and the Catholic social activist from the mid 20th century Dorothy Day, and the American catholic monk Thomas Merton.

1st papal appearance before Congress, and he doesn't mention the central figure in the religion he represents, and you don't find that odd.

It is odd, John. You are to used to covering for that other religious leader, Hims Obama.

So, we're going from one allowed bump to none now? For everyone? When did that change happen?

Does he? The first part is our relationship with God in the first four commandments. Of course they've eliminated the second commandment so they could worship idols and icons and make compromises with pagan religions. The second part is how we deal with fellow man kind in the final six commandments, seven according to them as they divide the part about coveting into two commandments. So, we have a right relationship with God and then our fellow humans and we're commissioned to spread the gospel to all the world before the 2nd coming.

I didn't get the memo. It's not my fault others stopped seeding articles for a period of time nor that some of mine from two or three days ago are still on the front page because they generated hits and comment traffic. I never exceeded the seed limit nor the old until now one bump allowed rule. Some one the left who complained about the situation would rather muzzle others than create their own competing contributions. My bump in this seed was within minutes of a reply and in addition to replying to that response. Both were within minutes of the response by another member and would have only kept this seed on the front page a few moments longer if no one else had responded here and people were seeding other material to NT.

So far, righties have alienated Catholics, Hispanics, Women, Muslims, Gays, Blacks, Immigrants, Unions, Middle Class families, Environmentalists and in general, the Well-Educated.

Keep going if one or two double-digit IQ types defect

the 2016 Elections will result in a Democratic President and a Democratic Majority in the House and Senate.

Religionists live in a psychotic state of mind.

It's all the have left. Dumb, angry, white men. That just doesn't cut it in a general election anymore. The truly sad part is that once upon a time you actually could elect a President with just dumb, angry, white men.

Well, let's see.
When we examine the life and teachings of Jesus, he certainly spoke up boldly about the critical issues of his day. He proclaimed that his mission was to bring glad tidings to the poor, liberty to captives and release to prisoners (Luke 4:18). He was concerned for the sick, downtrodden, and anyone oppressed by unjust systems. The whole environmental tragedy is rife with injusticesthe rich exploiting the earth for their greed at the expense of the poor and powerless who bear the heaviest load of negative consequences. Jesus would never have sanctioned or been silent about that.
Of course, in bringing this to the attention of religionist hypocrites Matthew 7:6.
Don't bother responding.

XXJ,

I believe the answer to your question is yes.Are you of the opinion the Pope didn't displayhis love of God andour fellow man?Since Jesus directed his comments to the apostles who were questioning what is most important didn't the Pope fulfill the greatest of the commandments?

Randy,

Explain to them that to mention Jesus in a meeting of Congress sort of violates the spirit of The First Amendment.

The Pope was not there to push Christianity, he was there to speak of the tenets of "HUMANITY".

What could be more Christ-like than that?

He can't be Christ like because he is not an evangelical. When I was exploring different religions many years ago trying to find my way, I spent some time in a Foursquare fundamentalist church (holy rollers, running the aisles, speaking in tongues, etc.). I left however when I was told that, since they had not been baptized by full immersion in water, my grandparents were in Hell. To many evangelicals the fact that he is Catholic means he is not a real Christian.

Randy,

I'm so sorry anyone would say such hatefilled comments regarding your grandparents. The God of my faith system, created all, keeps it spinning, has a plan for every life and doesn't need ANY person to speak for him. Your grandparents fulfilled the life God had planned for them, that includes eternal matters as well.

Robert G,

During your recent absences from NT, I was concerned about you/your family and hoped that all is well.

Despite the fact that we never agree, and that I find your content-void quips annoying, I'm happy to see you.

No he's just a mortal man like the rest of us. No one should base their religious experience one what any one person says. Every man comes to God him or herself and is forgiven directly by God. No one can come to the Father except through the Son of God. No one needs any man to approach God through, nor gain forgiveness of sin from.
