Michael Avenatti reportedly sought funds from Democratic 'super PAC' for Stormy Daniels case

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Michael Avenatti, lawyer for adult-film actress Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels.

Michael Avenatti , the lawyer for adult film star   Stormy Daniels , reportedly sought funding from leading Democratic groups in an effort to help his client's legal battle against President   Donald Trump ,   according to The New York Times .

Avenatti contacted Bradley Beychok, the president of American Bridge, a super PAC founded by liberal political operative David Brock, while someone associated with Avenatti's law firm reached out two Democratic donors, two anonymous Democratic operatives told the Times. Avenatti reportedly suggested that he was seeking $2 million in donations, at least partly from Democratic benefactors.

American Bridge opted against donating to Avenatti's case, according to the operatives, because the PAC's leaders decided it was not a good use of their money.

In a statement to CNBC, Avenatti denied the Times' report.

"Never happened," Avenatti said in an email. "But what I can tell you is we have turned down over $200,000 from Republican donors looking to harm the president."

Avenatti declined to name the donors.

"They [Republican donors] offered the money in the last month, Avenatti added. "We turned it down because we will only accept money through the   crowdjustice.com   website in the interest of disclosure."

Avenatti and Daniels have been financing his efforts through the crowdfunding site. So far they have raised $527,000 from more than 15,000 donors, according to the Times.

A representative with American Bridge confirmed to CNBC that Avenatti spoke with Beychok, but declined further comment.

Avenatti has been in the limelight since he began representing Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. Daniels is suing Trump, claiming that the non disclosure agreement that barred her from discussing her alleged intimate relationship with Trump that happened years before the 2016 presidential election is invalid because Trump did not sign it.

Daniels received a $130,000 hush payment in the days before the election. The source of the payment was   Michael Cohen , Trump's lawyer who is under criminal investigation for possible bank fraud and campaign finance violations. Though the White House denied knowing of the payment, it was later revealed   Trump reimbursed Cohen   the $130,000.

Avenatti has been openly critical of Trump and tried to become involved in Cohen's criminal case before backing off Wednesday. However, Avenatti claims that Daniels' case is "not about politics."

"I can't tell you the name of every person that I have spoken to, or not spoken to, over the last three months," Avenatti told the Times, "but what I can tell you is that we have not taken any political-associated dollars from anyone on the right or anyone on the left. Period."

Hum, I wonder who is lying now - Avenatti or the New York Times.  It's all catching up with the flashy lawyer now.

Unless they gave him political funds meant for something else this is nothing but emotional nonsense.

You are deflecting a bit. Nobody is claiming it to be a crime. The Times reported he did so, he denies it.
The question remains - who is lying?

Asking is not a crime, so there is no lie.  This is a tempest in a teapot that only serves to distract and excite conservatives because of their appearance of a supposed lie.  Stop letting yourself be led around by the nose and instead start to think logically for yourself. The ability to think critically will set you free from being somone's stooge.

Did you ever ask why are they telling you this and what is the intended goal of this claim?

I don't know about you, but i'm tired of repeating myself. The New York Times say's he asked for help from Democrats. Avenatti denies the claim. Only one claim can be true.

You do believe in the concept of contradiction?  You cannot be, yet not be - right?

Must I clip your Raven wings again?

These super PACs can use their money for whatever they want and they don't have to disclose where they spend it.  I've been lobbying against that for years but the people in power like it that way so... there you go.

Steevie, I understand that and i agree with you. The worst thing about it is they can come in and support someone on the other side in a primary, who has no chance of winning the general election. The issue here is Avenatti's denial.

MSNBC and Ashley Turner have already amended their headline from from, "Avenatti Sought", to, "Avenatti Reportedly Sought". Therefore this story stinks of being a red herring, a scoop that was really a planted fake story, a rumor, passed on to a frienly reporter to muddy the water, distract from the real story and to placate a conservative audience starving for anything to redeem their disgraced hero the aged butt wanton Lothario Donald J. Trump. Now, who would do that? Cohen? Trump? John Barron? Avenatti denies the assertion and if it were true there would be a paper trail. Besides what does it matter anyway? Between the porn star and the playmate and the Russian hookers Trump has really proven himself to be a scoundrel. The First Lady, the recipient of an overwhelming out flow of public sympathy, has gone into seclusion unable to even show her face in public out of shame and embarrassment. We can only imagine the suffering of young Barron Trump as news reports practically daily report on his father's sexcapades and other perverted indiscretions with assorted unsavory characters none of whom are his mother. There is really no accounting for how the once Grand Old Party of Lincoln, the party of family unity and social morality came so low as to embrace the King of Vulgaria Donald J Trump. Maybe that explains why the republicans are now known as merely "the gop".  Do note the change to the headline made midcourse. That one word changes everything and it also strains the entire story's credibility...

That's their headline - they didn't break the story - The New York Times did and this IS the headline:

Stormy Daniels’s Lawyer Sought Help From Democrats in Fight With Trump.

Avenatti denies the assertion and if it were true there would be a paper trail. Besides what does it matter anyway?

Because it goes to the credibility of a lawyer who has been on TV for months:

"A federal judge gave  Michael Avenatti  a choice Wednesday: If he wanted to represent his client  Stormy Daniels  in the federal investigation of President Donald Trump’s longtime attorney Michael Cohen, he had to end his “publicity tour” of TV appearances and aggressive tweets about the case.

Avenatti chose instead to drop the case. He was back on MSNBC talking about Cohen less than two hours later."

Yup, it's been a rough week for our little genius

I have said over and over again that this man is not representing a client but acting as a leader of a resistance movement.

Nice imagination....we all know what it is....He's a Lawyer first and foremost. He'll get other types of clients from this or he'll wash himself out.

My guess is he washes himself out unless he grinds Trump in the ground then he'll be rich for the rest of his life. Big gamble from the "little genius", and it may pay off.

The bigger problem for Avanetti's case is the public is already getting numb to the fact that the germaphobic president sticks his dick in anything that moves.

The public knew all that when they elected him. Trump won't be the first nor will he be the last womanizer to occupy the White House. What the public does understand is how he has improved the economy and foreign policy. Who would have believed it only a few years ago?

I intend to follow the career of the brilliant lawyer, who needs funding, has appeared on CNN 59 times in a 2 month period and chose to stay in the limelight rather than go to Court. That's just for starters:

Ya, Michael, It's getting hot out there

Left-wing media downplays or outright ignores all of Trump's "wins" and campaign promises kept.

You wouldn't even know that we have unemployment below 4% (remember when we were told that would never happen) or that GDP would be close to 3%, if you were to blindly believe the msm.

We're screwed. You ain't seen nothing yet. Canada just dropped tariffs on us, Mexico will too. China has gone out of it's way to buy Soy Beans and Sorghum from everyone BUT us...

Retail is about to take a huge dive, Automakers are slowing down and handing out desperate 0% Finance for 8 years, Nissan just announced cutbacks in U.S. production. Where's the 3% GDP growth he promised?

He announces he got a "Very nice letter" from Kim...and then says he hasn't read it yet.

Just what the fuck is he doing?

Kim is going to bend him over for food and sanction relief and he's going to take it like a Key West Transvestite.

So what? Most of us know he is just like Trump and his lawyers and think its sweet he is going after Trump on his own terms.  We don't expect different from him and frankly why do you?  By the way,  get the money out of politics and we don't need to have this conversation.  Otherwise no different from what is currently going on, thanks to the CU decision celebrated by republicans.   Not sure why you are complaining or surprised, he is just like Trump! Its hilarious!

It will be interesting to see how much coverage Avenatti gets on his way down. It was a quick and well reported way up, it's a long lonley ride down.

Trumps wins and accomplishments as President are ignored by the Dems and the msm. They whine about how mean Trump is because so many have dropped off of food stamps while ignoring the reason why, that they got full time jobs and no longer need food stamps.

I was thinking of writing an article on the first 500 days. That is when I realized exactly how much he has accomplished on big issues like the economy, getting the Tax Cut Act of 2017 passed, all the judicial appointments, the deregulation & renegotiation of trade deals, fixing the VA, the foreign policy with North Korea, scrapping the Iran deal, destroying ISIS, getting NATO to pay their fair share.  The battles over immigration. The battles won in the Supreme Court..etc....I then realized how big a project it would be to write & research all that along with the need to show what Trump was up against from day 1.

As you can see, I never took it on.

What ever and doesn't matter.  It is easily proven that Avenatti's Defense Fund has gotten not one Ruble from Putin or any of his oligarch henchmen.

And that is a hell of a lot more than I can say for The Trumpster Cartels.

Even if this is true, it doesn't change the fact that donny paid off a porn star he fucked behind his wife's back while she was home taking care of their infant son. Also, asking for funding for a legal defense? Not illegal. Paying off porn stars 10 years after, (and two weeks before a presidential election), the fact is most likely an illegal use of campaign funds. But I am sure the right wing fundies are totally ok with trump sleeping around on his wife...."praise jesus".
