I love the sunsets! But, filtered as they are through urban sprawl, it's hard to enjoy them...

This is gorgeous!

We don't get to really see them. Palm Springs was built at the base of a mountain and the sun just disappears behind it with no real sunset at all.Frown.gif There is a town on top of the mountain and I'm sure they see fantastic sunsets.

Beautiful Mac. We are lucky enough where we live, we get some spectacular sunsets.

This one is stunning.

Over the years I have taken many sunset shots with a number of different cameras and lenses. Because so many photographers (professional, amateur, etc.) shoot sunsets, after a while I stopped shooting them unless I found one to be particularly moving, spiritual and/or with something of interest in the way of (usually) silhouettes.

Given the very kind comments here, I realize/have rediscovered the popularity of such imagery and will go through my database, resurrect and create derivatives like the one in this article.

Thank all of you for reminding me that some image subjects have broad, perennial appeal and

Stay tuned for more.

Sunset, or distant nuclear annihilation?

I had a similar moment a couple weeks ago, that I had to stop and grab a shot of. The clouds blowing over the foothills behind my subdivision created a sunset that looked more like a detonation.

You're right, Hal. That is an extremely unusual sunset. I don't think I've ever seen one like it.

Since you obviously lived to tell about it, I'll guess "sunset."

Well, the reality is that it is a distant nuclear fire ... very distant.

I can see Hiroshima from my porch.

The most spectacular sunsets are often the result of atmospheric moisture content and/or ionization after a storm.
