I Wasn't Sure

This old photograph began its life as a black and white Magic Lantern slide, the property-rights, ownership and copyrights of which I acquired several years ago. It and about a thousand others were headed for a dumpster or a storage facility either to destruction or eternal obscurity.

As nice an image as this is, I have no clue as to where it was taken and, can only approximate the year based on others with captions and dates on the mounts.

Too touching a scene to have it live unseen in the wooden box where it now resides, at first and for a time, I wasn't sure what to do with it. Finally, this afternoon, I decided to convert it to a sepia-tone image, replace a pock-marked sky with a soft, smooth, "magic hour" derivative and find an appropriate quote that will now define it.

Please feel free to comment on, critique, condemn or praise its latter-day persona.

Thumbs up, the sepia tone provides an inordinate amount of depth which I dare say probably increased the quality overall. Reflection in the water is superb!

Why does this photo make me think of the drought in California?

Just a guess the water level of the brook in the photo is clearly below the high water points on each bank.

Could be fall. The creeks in Michigan where I grew up were much lower in the fall and made their high water marks in the spring when the rain and snow melt swelled them up and caused them to practically flood.

Beautiful, beautiful shot!
