Nazi salute and sign in post by two students in Minnesota condemned by school officials
School administrators in a town outside Minneapolis are condemning as "anti-Semitic" and "outrageous" a social media post showing two students giving a Nazi salute in front of a poster that appears to make light of Hitler and Nazis.
The two students from Minnetonka High School are pictured giving the Nazi salute while in front of an invitation to a dance that reads: “Sweethearts would be a Hit(ler) w/ you, and I could Nazi myself going w/ anyone else. Be Mein? Yes or Nein?.”
According to Minnetonka Schools Superintendent Dennis Peterson, both the students posted the picture featuring the Nazi salute on social media and it was widely reposted on Facebook. After the picture came to the attention of school administrators, the students deleted it, the superintendent said.
He called it "an outrageous act by two of our students."
“This kind of image causes great sadness and pain," Peterson said in a letter to district families. "I condemn what was done.”
School officials did not release names of the students and said they could not divulge details of possible disciplinary actions due to privacy concerns.
The high school principal, Jeff Erickson, wrote in a statement to the school community that the “anti-Semitic media post...in no way aligns with our school's core values.”
The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas released a statement saying they are “deeply disturbed by the egregious anti-Semitic image circulating on social media.”
"We are gravely concerned about the lack of Holocaust knowledge amongst American millennials,” the council said in its statement, citing a 2018 study released by the Claims Conference that 66 percent of millennials in the U.S. did not know what Auschwitz was.
Peterson said in his statement that that although district's teaches about the Holocaust, "it has apparently not been enough."
"We, as a community, must do an even better job of educating students about Hitler and the Holocaust," he wrote.
The post by the Minnesota teens comes only two months after a group of students in Wisconsin appeared to give a Nazi salute in a viral prom photo.
Please don't tell me that we are not having a problem with hate in this country. It comes from both extremes. At least the women's march dragged it out into the light. Let the excuses begin.
Sure it does lady, you keep telling yourself that.
Quote from Tamika Mallory about Louis Farrakhan who called Jews a gutter religion:
“Thank God this man is alive and well, he is definitely the Greatest Of All Time.”
Quote from Linda Sorsour:
"You can’t be a feminist if you are a Zionist." She also has given guidance to other Muslims "Never humanize Israelis"
This is the one of the heads of the Women's march. You are aware that there is a huge break within the movement because of this.
We have a serious problem in this country. The chasm rows. Both extremes are blind to their own self serving, power grubbing, bs. Both sides, hitler (ps, screw godwins law, or whatever the crap it's called), lenin and stalin and mao, etc were intent to save their people, even if they had to kill them in the process.
How soon we forget reality, cause and effect, me, me, me. My way or the highway.
The mentality reminds me of this guy. Leftist, extreme extraordinaire, leading to over 1 million deaths last century. Yes, both extreme sides suck.
Thanks to a witty, aggressive and intent grandfather, I am here today, to be able to state this.
No, have not forgotten the first hand account of real life when ideology rules all.
Oh, BS. This "both sides" crap will ruin this country, if it isn't ruined already.
"Both sides" arguments gave us Donald Trump, the worst president in the 240 year history of this country, and if the asshole wins re-election it will be because of the "both sides" argument being presented by independents.
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are not ANYWHERE near as bad for America as Trump is , full stop.
Stop dreaming for god's sake.
As for anti-semitism, it spans all ideologies.
If liberals are anti-semitic, why are most Jews liberal?
BS yourself.
What brought us here was what came before this point in time. Both sides brought us here.
Anyone who can not see that is blind.
Each one swung the pendulum further. This one is even worse. I dread to see what happens next.
Dreaming? Where did that come from? From someone who in incapable of connecting the dots to see how we got here? Someone blind to history?
Sorry, I grew up with first people having first hand knowledge of parallel nonsense similar to what is happening right now in this country.
No dreams. Just a lot of dead people because of bs mentality of refusing anything but their own ideoloy.
Dreaming...???
OK let's try again.
I said:
Where did I say liberals? I said extremes.
Dave,
I couldn't have said it better.
The "both sides" mentality gave us Donald Trump. Now we have a country that is in political chaos.
The idea that Trump is no worse than Nancy Pelosi is true insanity.
Keep it up Dave, you will have this country swirling down the toilet with your desire to blame both sides.
You are well known for your belief that both sides of the political aisle are at fault for just about everything that ails the country. It's a wonder you are not frozen immobile in a political sense.
Really, you think so?
That is a nice charismatic phrase.
Are you able to justify that phrase?
Interesting statement.
History has taught me, it is the extremists who flush countries down the proverbial toilet.
Please, explain to me how finding the center flushes countries down that proverbial toilet.
You know when you start a post with an outright lie, it's hard to take anything else you say seriously.
Totalitarian dictators always suck but that does not excuse Ever conflating socialism or liberalism with the goddamn Nazis. There is nothing intrinsically evil about liberalism. There is nothing redeeming about Nazis. There are many successful and free liberal lead modern nations today. Norway and Sweeden come to mind. That cannot be said of Nazis or Fascists. Some aspects of Socialism are at least facets of pretty much all modern economies. False equivalencies are, on their faces, false...
Are there, "Good people on both sides". Are liberals and fascists equal?
Please, where did I state or imply anything like that?
What in Hell does that bullshit have to do with anything I said?
Stalin and Mao were not Nazis or Fascists. So, explain that for us...
You were dishonest by omitting the rest of the description which clearly states that FASCISM is the opposite of liberalism. Why must you do that? To misinform, lie to and confuse decent people. That is why. So, why must you be dishonest? This has all been plainly explained to you before...
Mao and Stalin WERE NOT FASCIST. All dictators are totalitarians but fascism is a far rightwing political and economic system which is entirely different from liberal Socialism no matter how often you repeat the lie that they are equal. Believing things which are untrue means you are delusional butt knowingly and willfully spreading gross and verifiably untrue misinformation is just plain olde lying...
Glad to see you agree Clinton and Obama were both bad for America. There have been president I haven't agreed with, but I never question their loyalty to America until Obama was elected.
Oh, BS. This "both sides" crap will ruin this country
Because they don't take Santayana's statement seriously, or don't understand it. They simply don't realize how important the existence of Israel is for them and their descendants. Most of them were not alive at the time of The Holocaust.
I have to absolutely agree with you girl, I don't think anyone could have said it better!!!!
Way to GO DAVE!!!
It doesn't.
That is what the Founders tried to embody in this nation, the extremes exist and have a voice, but the middle rules....
But occasionally there are times which try mans soul.... And this age today is proving that true...
Yeah there is, the political side and the rational side.... with the political side becoming even more extreme as their support wanes because of the loss...
It's going to get worse before it gets better unfortunately...
It was taken out of context.
That's not really a Nazi salute; the pic was just snapped while they were waving and both had their arms outstretched.
And so on and so forth.
I can't imagine the mindset of the person who thinks this is all right.
Young people that don't know proper history.
Or who know and sympathize with the Nazis.
Waving is usually with the elbow bent. Rule of thumb....if you don't want one gesture mistaken for another, make sure there is no doubt as to the intent.
LOL Sandy. So true. Don't you just raise your arm out straight when your waving? I know that I do.
That was never said. I said extreme right and extreme left, extreme being the key word here. And these people understand totally what they were doing. You didn't watch the video.
I don't recall anyone either saying or implying as much.
Agreed, Paula.
The fact is that the Nazi sympathizers openly admit their right wing leanings and the right continues to refuse to truly reject them. They give them cover because they vote the same way as many other right wing Americans so they feel they have a common cause. And these Nazi and white supremacist groups have easy targets when they're recruiting from white christian rural America that's often already been steeped in bigotry and prejudice, many blaming their joblessness and poverty on what they see as the banker "Jews", the "coastal elites" and "bleeding heart liberals". They don't see their failings as their own, they simply blame everyone but themselves for their hardships, which makes it easy for the Nazi sympathizers and white supremacist groups to pray on the white male youth growing up in those communities.
So while I agree, antisemitism can come from either side of the aisle, the right have created a special place for it among them, they have watered the field of hate with their traditional indoctrinated prejudice towards those they see as "others", anyone not a straight white Christian, which of course includes Jewish, Muslim, Atheist, Hindu and any other flavor of faith, which is why the vast majority of those they have labeled "other" vote for Democrats.
So yes, while the left do have a splinter in their eye, and should work to rid themselves of any anti-Semitic members or messages, the right have a giant rafter of deep seated prejudice in their eye keeping them from seeing any reason or logic on the matter.
What does "both sides" have to do with it? I wish for once you could make a comment on a "political" topic with invoking "both sides".
Anyway these are high school students, they probably don't have a "side".
Another person who didn't watch the video. I don't know why I go through the problem of finding them if no one cares enough to watch They know what they are doing.
ok, i will look at it
Ok, I watched the video. What is their "side" ?
I don't see a side there, if anything a viewpoint of "I hate all races" is anarchic.
When did it ever stop ?
"Success makes so many people hate you. I wish it wasn't that way. It would be wonderful to enjoy success without seeing envy in the eyes of those around you."
Marilyn Monroe
For some yes success in others is enough justification for themselves to Hate,
For many others some success for others is fine, great, admirable and justified,
Depending on how that success was accomplished. Many people admire self built success but usually that depends on how that success was accomplished.
Success isn't an overnight achievement its usually the coalition of a long term process.
The more people helped in that venture the more people will admire the successful,
The more people hurt in that venture the more reason to hate the successful.
MY Opinion.
IMHO.....Success is a "Personal" thing. No one else's business !
Although......
A lot of folks NEED/want to make it their business !
So......
back to the …..
"NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS" about "MY BUSINESS" !
Personal success is and I agree personal success is very personal. What I consider as my successes others may see as petty bs and vice versa.
However, I was actually talking about publicly recognised successful people.
Like whom ?
Aren't ALL companies started by an individual "Person" or two !
I'll give you a personal example. I used to dislike Bill Gates a great deal for how he worked others to get all he had, at one point he evidently had a change himself and started giving all he had to help others. A real flip in attitude. Now I admire what he finally did, although I still dont like how he got there though.
To me how a person operates is important, helping other when you want to is admirable, hurting others to get ahead is distasteful to say the least in my book.
That goes for ALL individuals.....
But if your not "Litteral" involved....why would it bother you so much ?
You didn't force folks to get a job with Bill Gates and Company and stay …….. DID YOU ?
Folks that get a job are more than capable of making personal life decisions too.....right ?
Why is it...."Feel" good folks find they don't ….or CAN'T if you will ?
I didn't say it bothers me. But I dont like seeing humans being nasty to each other, That enforces that type of behavior and I live in this world it spreads in.
Personally I'd rather live in a civilized world instead of a Might makes right one.
Lifes tough enough as it is for me. I know its a dog eat dog world but I'm not a big dog so I'll take a more civilize environment and be safe, and happy.
Although I do stand up for myself I dont want to fight to the death for every scrap of food I need.
lol
You don't have to. As you have said....you are your OWN person. That says something …. right ?
YOU.....do what YOU have to do for YOU !
The "Other" folks have that same option. Let them do their own thing ! They're Big boys and Girls too after all !
On a personal note:
I tell my wife that all the time when it comes to my grown living on their own kids. She STILL wants to treat them like they live at home. Guess where I fall on that argument ? LOL !
"IT'S OUR MONEY AND WE NEED TO KEEP IT …….. NOW" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do.
Sometimes I've had to stand up for myself to others to do or have what I have done or gotten. We all do.
In a "hard world" one closer to one of might makes right the tougher it is and the more one would need to stand up for themselves possibly including more physically as well.
Although I am not afraid of physically fighting I am of smaller stute and most men are larger and stronger than I. That definitely puts me at a disadvantage in those scenarios.
I am no wimp either though, I'll take a beating to win a fight if necessary, and I do not remember ever losing an actual fist fight. But that certainly is not my preferred way of advancement.
lol
Soooooo….give the "Others" a chance to do it for THEMSELVES too !
Problem these days is.....too many want to make things easier for "Others" …… instead of letting others work things out for themselves !
"Now comes the day of the "Snowflakes" !
That was a Re-word of the Lord of the ring movie - "The Return of the King" ending !
Gotta give credit where credit is due dontchyaknow ! LOL !
I'm certainly all for anyone who can be self reliant and self sufficient to stand up for themselves. You Bet.
BUT I've also worked with and helped many who were not capable in one way or another to do so for themselves.
I worked for and helped advocate for for years people who are disabled veterans. I think its a damn shame on america that we as a nation do not seriously take care of these mainly men.
They stood up for the country and now we basically abandon them when they need America. Its sickening to me.
So I know that everyone "on he government take" isn't scum. Some actually IMO: deserve much more than they receive even.
Yes we have way too many who take advantage of our safety net , I say don't throw the baby out, clean up the crib.
To be honest....government really NEVER has.
Trump did give it a shot a few times, with his "expanding the Veterans Choice Program", "VA MISSION Act", "Department of Veterans Affairs fiscal 2019 budget law", " Public Safety Officers Benefits Improvement Act", "American Law Enforcement Heroes Act ….etc....
Don't forget.....Democrats run on helping Vets and the Homeless ALL THE TIME ! I Wonder why their "Vote Getting" mantra never goes away……. hmmmmmmm
I'd say that is because we as a nation are still not taking good care of our weakest citizens and the veterans at least. Realistically, I doubt we ever do, or even could.
The more care we give em, the more care others want and soon need.
I know, it's vicious circle cycle whatever , But still IMO: Not to try to help the weakest and especially those who are weak now because of what they actually gave up for the country is as I said sickening and throwing out what we do for them already IMO: IS also.
Some of these people dont have a pot to piss in and never will, and worse for some it truly is not of their own doing.
PS: Of Course it is made So much worse by the non deserving low life scum who will grab on to all they can get anyway they can. Clean up the system . ,dont discard all it helps though.
But that is governments job. Government got them into it, government should keep up their "Good" work. /s
Seriously though....when government "Forces" one to do something, they should have saved our "Bucks" they already collected, and should have taken it all the way to the end, without "Charging" the folks of today MORE !
Like I noted.....Trump is at least doing something the others wouldn't !
There are MANY folks out there helping others on their own dime. It just isn't a "Money Making" news item.
Keep up the good work Steve. (Thumbs up Face )
I fully agree it's a damn shame that the money has been misused and more is needed, that should be a lesson to those in charge to be more mindful and proactive in setting up the oversight of fund use and distribution.
Trump is at least doing something the others wouldn't !
I agree, although I highly question his methods, means and ways of accomplishing almost all of what he is doing. In Many forms.
Getting something at any cost, never comes without a price.
(Thumbs up Face )
I've been meaning to ask... What does that mean ?
Emoticon Steve...
He types them out cause for some reason he can't use them....
We have a difference in proportions, that's all.
Two questions, if anyone has answers:
1) Why aren't the students being identified and punished in some manner with public knowledge?
2) What exactly does this mean:
“Sweethearts would be a Hit(ler) w/ you, and I could Nazi myself going w/ anyone else. Be Mein? Yes or Nein?.”
Nothing to see here folks, it's just Donald Trump making America hate again.
Thank you for so ably demonstrating what Perrie and the article is talking about...
I know it is fracturing. It has been for a while now. What's happening is it is finally coming to the surface and the anti politicians are gaining a voice large enough to be paid attention to, which makes the fanatic politicians that had complete control a few years back get even more fanatic....
Rejecting bigotry is a good thing and finally some are voicing it.... It's been too long coming
Personally I don't think those ignorant and insensitive students deliberately meant what they did to be antisemitic. I think they just thought they were doing a clever play on words. Obviously they're just not aware of Hitler's antisemitism, and the effects that it has had and still has upon the survivors and those who lost family members. I just think they need to be required to do a tour of a Holocaust memorial, if the ones in the USA are anywhere similar to Yad Vashem in Israel, and be made to watch Schindler's List.
However, due to the world-wide, including American, considerable increase in antisemitism, perhaps the education system in the USA should require an effective and universally applied program that will prevent Santayana's statement about ignoring history from actually happening.
Buzz,
You are the only person that who can't watch the video.
The students said: "I am not antisemitic in any way. I hate all races the same way.
That was a lame ass, piece of crap attempt of a PC CYA bs move.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
LOL!
Yes, you're right, I could not open the video. So they admitted that they're racists - then I guess I was wrong and they're not JUST ignorant and insensitive. Then Shona's suggested punishment is more apt than mine. On the other hand, maybe Dave is right and they're just smartass kids (who still need to learn a lesson).
Yeah buzz, Admission by denial. They can't understand what their denials are saying about them. We see it all the time don't we....
What's interesting is some on the other side are beginning to see it also....
Evening..Maybe it is time to drop these ferals into Dachau for a night stay..Preferably down at the crematorium and lock them in there over night...Dachau is one of the most haunting places on this earth...You can feel the "presence" of the lost souls there and that is in day time...Can guarantee they will be in no hurry after staying there over night, to do the Nazi salute when they come out...
Perhaps one of the more fitting forms of teaching a valuable lesson of late.
Agreed.
This is not surprising at all. The history of Minneapolis/Minnesota area is ripe with antisemitism..In fact at one point in history Minneapolis was known as the most anti Semitic city in the US.
Nothing is sacred or meaningful to some kids. Although that has always been somewhat the case, the internet and video age where outrageous behavior goes "viral" has emboldened many kids and blurred or removed many lines.
These kids should undergo some sort of "re-education" program to teach them that history lives on through present day people and they should respect every culture and religion.
I don't get the impression they were malicious, just completely ignorant. If they were malicious there should be consequences imposed by their school.
I think this is a little less egregious than the photo of the 40 some boys standing on stairsteps giving the Nazi salute, but not by much.
They meant it. They said later that they were not antisemitic. They hated all races.
Still sticking with my earlier comment. CYA bs is all that was,
Yes, I am calling the little rat bastards liars.
You're right. My high school yearbook has a picture of two of my classmates doing the Nazi salute and grinning. And frankly, it was a small enough school that I knew both boys, and I know that they knew exactly what it meant, and just agreed with it. So did the yearbook editor, and the yearbook advisor. And yet it was approved for the yearbook.
Wow. I am speechless.
I was pretty pissed off when I looked through my yearbook for the first time.
Immulating Nazis is ALWAYS in extremely bad taste. So, don't do it. Never! Ever...
You would think, right?
Yes. One would think so...
this might come back to haunt them later, job and college applications, ect
Hopefully.
How about this? Could the rise of anti-Semitism be ( related/connected/a by-product of ) the increased influence of religion in governance?
Q. In whatever state for what ever context what do you call anyone making a Heil Hitler right hand salute around me?
A. Lefty!
E.
B. Disjointed?
Dear Friend bbl-1: Precisely.
Hope the New Year goes well for you and yours.
E.
