Nathan Phillips Lied. The Media Bought It.
There was far more than met the eye to the Covington Catholic story, but that didn’t stop the popular press from vilifying its students.

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

If you’re in a public place and someone starts heckling you, are you entitled to heckle back? How about if someone does something much worse than heckling you in a public place? What if that person in fact takes a drum up to you and starts banging it in your face? Are you entitled to heckle back? How about smirking? Are you allowed to smirk?

I think you are, even if you’re wearing a MAGA hat. Even if you’re an entitled brat. Even if you’re an entitled Catholic brat.

We’ll stipulate that the Catholic boys from a high school in Kentucky were a little obnoxious when an indigenous man named Nathan Phillips banged a drum at them in front of the Lincoln Memorial on Friday. But Phillips was being a lot more obnoxious. To put it another way, if you were minding your own business in a public place and someone came right up to you and put a drum up to your face and made a huge racket inches from your nose, would you be happy about it?

The kids from Covington Catholic High School in Covington, Ky., were ambassadors for causes much bigger than themselves: Catholicism and the right to life. As such, they should have comported themselves better than to jeer and do a tomahawk chop in front of Phillips. Ideally, the kids would have ignored him and walked away. Until about ten minutes ago, it was broadly agreed in our culture that kids are allowed to do some dumb things because they’re kids. Should these kids’ lives be ruined because some of them responded to obnoxious provocation by being a bit rude themselves? I’d say their reaction was if anything more restrained than you would expect from teenagers. I’d advise them to do better next time. I certainly wouldn’t consider expulsion.

Phillips, on the other hand, is an adult, and he repeatedly lied about what happened to the Washington Post, which was utterly taken in by him and reported everything he said uncritically.

It would have been revolting if Nathan Phillips had been minding his own business doing a tribal chant while a gang of kids swarmed around him and started jeering. That’s what many media outlets reported: “Boys in ‘Make America Great Again’ Hats Mob Native Elder at Indigenous Peoples March,” ran a New York Times headline over a story that said “a throng of cheering and jeering high school boys” were “surrounding a Native American elder.”

That isn’t what happened. Phillips was the aggressor in the situation. It’s a curious feature of our culture that people aggressively seek to be victimized, go out of their way in hopes of getting punched in the face, but here we are. People do that because they know the media hand out condemnation based on perceived ranking in the victim hierarchy. “Old Ypsilanti man” is near the top, while “privileged-looking young white male probable heterosexual in a MAGA cap” is the absolute bottom. The surface appeal of the story short-circuited the reporters’ brains to such a degree that they failed to perform basic tasks such as asking the people they were accusing for their version of events. The Times and other outlets had zero evidence that a “mob” “surrounded” Phillips, except a claim of Phillips that he has since backed away from.

Friday he waded into a group of Covington students, evidently hoping to troll a response out of them suitable for a viral video. According to the Washington Post, Phillips, 64, said that he felt threatened by the teens and that they swarmed around him as he and other activists were wrapping up the march and preparing to leave. This is a lie. They didn’t swarm around him. He strolled right into the middle of their group:

Phillips then pivoted to a completely different version of his story with the Detroit Free Press, in which he admitted that he approached the students, not the other way around. His interviews and the various videos of the incident paint a picture of him saying he is a) terrified of the Catholic students yet b) walking right up to and into their group; a) doing his best to leave yet b) pressing forward insistently; a) trying to go up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial yet b) not noticing that there is a clear path up those steps approximately ten feet to his right.

Phillips, who claims to be a former Marine and a Vietnam veteran, told the Free Press the Covington kids “were in the process of attacking these four black individuals. I was there and I was witnessing all of this. . . . As this kept on going on and escalating, it just got to a point where you do something or you walk away, you know? You see something that is wrong and you’re faced with that choice of right or wrong.”

Because naturally, when you see a group of individuals “attacking” another group in a public place where there are lots of police, the proper response when you’re a 64-year-old man is not to inform a cop but to take charge of the situation yourself. Go up to the “attackers,” stand toe to toe with one of them and start loudly banging a drum in his face. This is a known mollification technique and it absolutely can never fail to defuse tensions. However, if it does fail, what you should do is move the drum even closer to the other person’s face, so it’s just a few inches from the guy’s ears, and keep banging away for several more minutes.

Nathan Phillips went out seeking to create an incident, and he fooled the New York Times and the Washington Post into accepting his false version of it.

Phillips has on at least one other occasion gotten himself into what he says was a racist   altercation with a group of youths. This one, four years ago, also involved him approaching others, in this case a group of college students. (“Why did Phillips go over to the fence? Why not just walk away?” wondered a reporter. “For me just to walk by and have a blind eye to it,” Phillips said. “Something just didn’t allow me to do it.”)

Well, Nick the Smirking Prick's version is highly entertaining and not at all compatible with any of the videos we've seen.  So, please list all of these "different versions" that Phillips has offered and, of course, give the source for each.

One has to give grudging admiration for how racists always frame the narrative of these episodes so that the victim of racism is really the instigator and stick to it no matter how much the facts show otherwise.  It has to be one of those lies they must tell themselves to advance the cause of their racism.

There is a nearly two-hour   video   of the incident in which a group of about five black individuals from the Black Hebrew Israelites shout abuse at Catholics and Trump supporters near the Lincoln Memorial. “You believe in a f***** child molester,” they shout. “The Purge is coming.” “Christ is coming back to kick your cracker asses.” Etc. One youth, apparently part of the Covington group, takes off his shirt, leads the group in what looks like a choreographed school cheer (this appears consistent with the   account   one student provided to WKRC TV in Cincinnati), everyone joins in, then most of them sit down or take a knee at about the 1:12 mark. At that point Phillips emerges from the crowd and walks up to the kids with his drum. The kids get up and start dancing and jumping again. A lot of people were making videos of the incident. At least one of these videos, it appears, was taken by an ally of Phillips. Yet I haven’t come across a video that shows the Covington kids chanting “build the wall,” much less “attacking” black people as Phillips says.

To which the young punks responded in kind (with apparently no chaperones there or willing to intervene).  We keep seeing you lot claim that the BHI group were "confrontational,"  suggesting that they were in the faces of the little punks.  THAT IS A LIE.  The BHI groups stood in one place while many of the punks  came right up to them to exchange abusive comments.  At no time whatsoever did the BHI group issue any kind of threat.  But, again, when a black man shouting is automatically a criminal offenses in the minds of some people in this country.

Just a follow-up to my 2.1 comment.  At no point did any of the young prick brigade seem in the least bit intimidated or threatened by the BHI group.  Quit the opposite, since apparently they outnumbered the BHI by many multiples they seemed quite emboldened and enjoying the back-and-forth.

I will say a few things about this.

I agree with just about everything I have ever heard from the Native American rights movement. American Indians have been horribly mistreated throughout US history, and maybe even worse in present day America, their concerns are largely ignored by the rest of America because they are not a large percentage of the population or a trendy cause for social media outrage. In my opinion 99% of the attention that is paid to transgender news should be spent on behalf of American Indians.

Having said that Nathan Phillips didnt do his cause much good. Maybe he was having a bad day.

He has made comments that either confused or distorted what happened.

-

I hate to break it to the local Trumpsters and the both sides do it crowd, but to most Americans , someone who wears a MAGA hat in public has put a scarlet letter of shame on their forehead. Is that completely fair? Well nothing is completely fair but it's pretty fair.

When some of these kids showed up with MAGA hats, including the boy in question as regards confronting Phillips, it is inevitable that his motives would be questioned. 17 year olds are old enough to have their own damn common sense and I am not sure this kid used any. You couldn't pay me enough money to walk around advertising the worst president in US history as if I were proud of him.

The media jumped to a conclusion, which was obviously an egregious mistake.  Although we can assume there are some anti Native American racists in a crowd from Kentucky wearing MAGA hats, what actually happened on those Lincoln Memorial steps doesnt really show that.

When Donald trump was elected president on Nov 16 , 2016, the "resistance" began. Some on the right thought it was a joke or something that would pass once trump got in the saddle.

In actuality , Trump has been such a horror show as president that the "resistance" hasn't wavered for a day, nor should it.

It won't rest until Trump is gone, nor should it.

People who wear MAGA hats, which declares their allegiance to the abomination known as the Trump presidency, are a disgrace to this country.

He will shortly go down in history as the most ignorant, buffoonish , and dishonest president of ALL TIME.

I will respond to this first because I hope it will give you insight to myself. If you understand me better then perhaps you will be better able to understand what I say later.

I didn't vote for Trump. I didn't vote for Clinton, either, by the way. I think President Trump is about as unpresidential as one can be. That doesn't mean I disagree with everything he is trying to do. It just means I'm not very impressed with him as a person.

The MAGA logo and products, including the hats, are the intellectual property of and representative of DONALD TRUMP, not America.

This is only partially true. Trump did trademark "Make America Great Again". However, one cannot trademark the actual idea of making America great again, nor define what a great America would be simply because they have the trademark rights.

If you wear that hat you are positively endorsing Trump , a fate I wouldnt wish on too many people.

And here is where I wish you could see what I'm talking about. Some do wear the hat to endorse Trump, but not all. Some wear it because they believe in the idea of making America great again. Do you remember all the President Obama posters? The ones that had is image with the word "Change?" Do you think all of those people who wore pins with the same image, or bumper stickers on their cars all believed the same thing? That they all had the same idea of what that change should be?

What I am trying to get at is, when you see someone wearing a MAGA hat, you don't see the person. You just see the hat and attach to that person your preconceived indignation and rage concerning Trump. And I'm not trying to single you out. We all do it. I do it. If things are going to get better, we need to stop. Things won't get better if we would only adopt a certain ideology, they'll get better when we start seeing each other as people, not as a hat or whatever else.

Bingo!  Where the media screwed up is they did a little too good of a job this time.  This story was just supposed to be in news cycle a day or 2.  But, it created a visceral reaction that many on BOTH sides experienced.  Grade A deception for sure.  The propaganda wing of the DNC has gotten very, very good at their jobs.

There are still a few who are unwilling to unhitch their wagon from this, because doing so forces you to see the level of deception the media is capable of in order to support an agenda.

The MAGA Teens' Defense for Staring Down a Native American Veteran Doesn't Add Up

e0fa0b80-4930-11e6-b906-8fd8d05e2343_64x64-icons_GQ.jpg   Luke Darby, GQ   Mon, Jan 21 2:54 PM EST

107c5b0477ace9ea1557573ed7f4c577 The viral video of MAGA hat-wearing teens and Native American marchers is both more and less complicated than it seems.

By now most of the internet has seen the viral video of Native American veteran Nathan Phillips and MAGA hat-wearing high schoolers at the Indigenous Peoples March in D.C. Since then, longer and longer videos have surfaced that show the events leading up to that encounter, and who was in the right seems to vacillate depending on how far back any given video goes.

The student featured most prominently in the video, Nick Sandmann, put out a   statement on Sunday giving his version of what happened. The teens were in D.C. with their school, Covington Catholic High in Kentucky, for the annual anti-abortion March for Life, which had wrapped up by the time the events in the videos took place. Near the Lincoln Memorial, they reportedly crossed paths first with a group of Black Hebrew Israelites (which the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated a hate group) who began taunting the students. In response, the boys started doing school chants to drown them out when Phillips and other activists with the Indigenous Peoples March approached. Sandmann writes:

I never interacted with this protestor. I did not speak to him. I did not make any hand gestures or other aggressive moves. To be honest, I was startled and confused as to why he had approached me. We had already been yelled at by another group of protestors, and when the second group approached I was worried that a situation was getting out of control where adults were attempting to provoke teenagers. I believed that by remaining motionless and calm, I was helping to diffuse the situation," he said. "I realized everyone had cameras and that perhaps a group of adults was trying to provoke a group of teenagers into a larger conflict. I said a silent prayer that the situation would not get out of hand.

This mostly tracks with Phillips' account of what happened leading up to the clip that went viral.  Indian Country Today  compiled several videos that clearly show the Black Hebrew Israelites jeering at the Covington students, and Phillips approaching. But from there, the accounts of what exactly happened split. According to an interview with the  Detroit Free Press :

Phillips said some of the members of the Black Hebrew group were also acting up, "saying some harsh things" and that one member spit in the direction of the Catholic students. "So I put myself in between that, between a rock and hard place," he said.
But then, the crowd of mostly male students turned their anger towards Phillips.
"There was that moment when I realized I've put myself between beast and prey," Phillips said. "These young men were beastly and these old black individuals was their prey, and I stood in between them and so they needed their pounds of flesh and they were looking at me for that."

Some people, like Native writer Kelly Hayes, see the defense of the Covington students as a continuation of a race-based double standard that affords white boys bottomless mercy and doubt (versus, for example, the blame put on 11-year-old   Tamir Rice   when he was shot to death by police).

This iframe is not allowed

And on   MSNBC , Native American activist   Chase Iron Eyes   stressed that the situation can't be divorced from the much broader social and political context. “We have a racially charged environment with a president who is giving license to this behavior,” he said. "These kids show up being very loud, very disruptive, and doing the tomahawk chop, it is on video, making the fake war whoop we all know how to make.”

“It doesn’t matter how people spin it,” he added. “Our elder felt threatened there.”

'Okay, so there's a new lie.  No one has claimed that.  But it has been lied innumerable times now that the black men were "confrontational" merely because they were shouting while staying in one place.  What is incontrovertible is that while the BHI group remained in their location for the entire time, the white punks approached them to mouth off back to them.'

Here's exactly what was said:

his mostly tracks with Phillips' account of what happened leading up to the clip that went viral.

An extended video which appears to taken from the perspective where the BHI group was standing (although not necessarily by one of them) shows Phillips doing just what he said he did--walking in between BHI and the Covington pricks.  Phillips turns to his right to face the prick contingent  and very soon after that they surround Phillips pretty much obscuring his view from the point of the phone camera.   We get that later still shot of Nick the Prick right in Phillips face with his shit-eating smirk and the latter being tightly surrounded by the mob. Nick the Prick is clearly blocking Phillips from moving forward.  Remember, this is all open public space and the pricks have prevented Phillips from moving.  Phillips was exactly right to feel he was in a possibly dangerous situation.

So if this was one of them on the seed you should have already seen it, right?:

At the 1.09.40 mark we see a bunch of these little MAGA shits do some kind of idiotic "hulk" cheer in  response to the BHI group's taunts. The little MAGA shits had been doing their own jeering at the BHI for some time before that.  Nathan Phillips enters the frame on the left at ~1.12.20 mark which is where I started my description of the scene in comment 5.3.6 above.  Over the next couple of minutes Phillips turns to face the little MAGA shits and you see him slowly move away from the camera and the little MAGA shits are mocking Phillips, hopping up and down and soon he's surrounded by them.  You can actually see Nick the Smirking Pricking eagerly participating in the mocking, jumping up and down, shouting  and laughing at Phillips.  We can't see that point on this video when  the Nick the Smirking Prick decides to get right up into Phillips face but I suppose you're going to try to claim than never happened.

I'm more worried about us reaching "The Eve of Destruction" myself. That song's lyrics are  just as relevant today as when it was recorded by Barry McGuire in the 60's.

Think of all the hate, there is in Red China,

Then take a look around at Selma, Alabama,

And you may leave this place for four days in space,

But when you return, it's the same old place,

The poundin of the drums,  the pride and disgrace,

You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace,

Hate your next door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace,

And you tell me over and over again my friend,

You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction ...

Actually the song was called "One Tin Soldier" and originally recorded in 1969 by a Canadian pop group called The Original Cast, and was then used as the theme song for the 1971 counterculture film "Billy Jack".  The last line of the lyrics originally said, "On the bloody morning after, one tin soldier rides away." Coven recorded their version in 1973 and changed the lyrics slightly to say "Than ancient warrior rode away..".

Some question his service...

Most stories about Nathan refer to him as a Viet Nam vet. Several refer to him as a Marine. I am 66 years old and know personally, of no one my age who went to Viet Nam. Several friends joined the various services right after graduation – 1972.

Here is one of the hundreds of articles about the protester confronting the boys from Covington Catholic High School. The Journal Star has apparently not seen the video of Phillips confronting the students (below).

I checked some sources about the last combat troops in Viet Nam. Here is one a person has put his name to. It has details.

Steven,
Thanks for taking the time to ask this!
The question asked when the last US ground combat troops left Vietnam. We gave the correct answer, ie 1972. The last American combat unit was a task force from the 3d Bn, 21st Inf Regt and battery B, 3d Bn, 82d Field Artillery Regt which had been stationed in Danang (I commanded battery C, 3d Bn, 82d FA and B btry was our ‘sister’ battalion). These were the last US ground combat units in Vietnam, and I was there when they left in August of 1972. As a matter of fact, when my unit disbanded in June 1972, we sent B Btry about 15 of our guys who stayed with B Btry until it left in August. Of note: these C btry guys took along a US flag that had flown over my firebase and put it up over the B Btry firebase where it flew until the task force departed in Aug 72. Therefore, the last American flag to fly over a US firebase in Vietnam was mine.
Some American troops (no combat troops) were still in Vietnam until they left in 1973.
Thanks again for the question.

Mr Morelock is quite correct the 3rd/21st departed on August 11, 1972. The last U.S. Army combat unit and that left roughly 43,000 advisers, support troops and airmen in Vietnam.

According to the official Marine Corps historian the Marines were in Nam until April 1975.

The ''last combat unit'' and last combat troops can and are quite different. I would not tell the advisers there that they were not combat troops. Since they were attached to Vietnamese units they would not be considered a US combat unit, but there were indeed combat troops.

In March/April of 1972, Captain Riley USMC was covan (advisor) to the Vietnamese 3rd Marine Battalion.

His and the 3rd actions those days at Dung Ho are legendary.

Yes they were, Absolutely! Very brave men. That was a crazy time....

My records show the last US military personnel in any capacity left shortly after the last Marines, The Marine Embassy Guards were fully trained combat Marines of course, but they were not considered military combat personnel. (attached to the embassy diplomatic corps) April of '75 if I remember correctly, there was a small combined office on the senior governmental level doing final coordination of the turnover to ARVN control...... (they weren't there very long, three days I believe)

The Last refugee flight out of Vietnam was on March 29th, 1975. From Da Nang.....

A bunch of fucking cowards if you ask me.

The last official combat soldier (according to the government) was retired Msgt. Max Beilke, the last American combat soldier to leave Vietnam in 1973. He retired from the Army in '74. He became a civilian employee at the Pentagon who worked on veterans issues. Beilke, who was drafted in the Korean War, was the kid who'd always had a fishing pole in his hand, joined the U.S. Army and saw the world, said his sister, Lucille Johnson. "We could see him leaving (Vietnam) on television," Johnson said of her brother's return. "We all just beamed because we knew he'd soon be home safely."

And sadly, he died at the Pentagon September 11th, 2001. Beilke, deputy chief of the Retirement Services Division, of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, was meeting with Lieuenant General Timothy Maude and retired Lieutenant Colonel Gary Smith at the Pentagon when a hijacked jet piloted by terrorists hit the outer ring of the building. The three men and 71 other personnel were killed.

It never rains but it pours....

I am 66 years old and know personally, of no one my age who went to Viet Nam.

Ah, the good ol' fallacy of "personal" knowledge of a tiny sample (what, his high school class at most?)extrapolated to an entire group.  "Since I don't know anyone who went to Vietnam, then no one my age could have gone to Vietnam." As the actual history of the Vietnam War shows, the last combat troops came out of Vietnam on March 29, 1973.  So men born in 1953, graduating high school in 1971 and entering the military as combat troops  could very well have been sent to Vietnam in a combat unit in those almost two intervening years.  But there were still U.S. Marines in Saigon for another 25 months after that as security for the embassy and other functions.  This has nothing to do with Phillips, though.  I just point out how far the rightwing will go to lie about things that can so easily be refuted.  I enjoy doing that but it really is a full-time job because, like rust,  the lying never rests.

The state of progressivism in 2019.

"There have been many threats against our lives, against our parents. Some of these include that we should be locked in the school and it should be burned to the ground, the school being bombed, school shooting threat...

“I, myself, wasn’t even present but I am very vocal about defending my school and my peers and I have been doxxed on three separate occasions,” Hillmann said. “This has lead to a tsunami of hateful messages and threats and everything above."

“A lot of people’s parents were also doxxed, their work was called. I mean, this could greatly affect their job. They could be fired,” Schroder added. “There are real consequences for these actions and it all spews from a 30-second clip taken out of a two-hour video out of context and people jumping to conclusions before the full story is released. Nobody did their research and it’s now showing.”

Very interesting comments from Nathan Phillips .. I like how 'some' have decided that they know what is the best way for others to act .. the childish arrogance that is present in the statements below is a bit over the top - but it is comforting to know that 'God' called upon Phillips to step in .. perhaps 'God' should have told Phillips to mind his own business and none of this would be happening … ?

Because the press chose to lie about what the students did, they are now pariah?  Now Phillips is doubling down on being the victim .. and still claims hate and racism... [shakes head] this could be an educational moment that shows how false perception can get out of hand and lead to accusations of racial motives when hate and race/bigotry were never a factor .. but nope, there are those that are not done pouting!

"He (Sandmann) needs to put out a different statement," said Phillips, who has said he is a Vietnam Veteran. "I'm disappointed with his statement. He didn't accept any responsibility. That lack of responsibility, I don't accept it."

Phillips said that Sandmann's response has changed his mind on how he views the incident and what he hopes the outcome will be.

"At first I wanted the teachers and chaperones to be reprimanded, some fired, for letting this happen," Phillips said. "For the students, I was against any expulsions, but now I have to revisit that."

According to Phillips, the national attention he has received hasn't had much sway on him. The incident hasn't really either, he said, but Sandmann's statement has.

"This is our youth," he said. "These (CovCath) students may be from a different culture, a different race, but I'm American and they are American. This is our youth, American youth. Is this the future we got?"

Phillips said he's ready to "work toward a better America," that was one reason he was participating in the Indigenous Peoples March.

"I'm just working for a better future for all of our children," he said. "But, I can't work with liars and thieves."

Phillips said he was in prayer when he approached the CovCath students. His goal was to defuse a "volatile" situation between the students and four members of the Black Hebrew Israelites.

"He (Sandmann) stole my narrative," Phillips said. "From the time I hit that first beat of the drum until I hit the last beat, I was in prayer. Now all of a sudden, he's the prayer guy and the passive one."

Phillips is referring to Sandmann's statement: "I believed that by remaining motionless and calm, I was helping to diffuse the situation. I realized everyone had cameras and that perhaps a group of adults was trying to provoke a group of teenagers into a larger conflict. I said a silent prayer that the situation would not get out of hand."

Phillips also took issue that Sandmann refers to him and fellow marchers as "Native American protesters."

"I take great offense to that term, 'protester.' We were not protesting anything," Phillips said. "In fact, we were the only group with a permit to be there and we were marching for solidarity and for being indigenous people. We were there in prayer. We wanted to make a better America."

Phillips said, on the other, the CovCath students were coming from a protest. The students had participated in the Right to Life March.

"What he came to town for was protesting," Phillips said. "Anyone who knows about Roe versus Wade knows it isn't a pretty picture. He (Sandmann) had just come from that protest. To me, he came worked up in a frenzy already."

Phillips said the argument between the students and the Black Hebrew Israelites went on for hours before he "was called by God" to step in.

"(The students) had an opportunity to not hate and to put out an olive branch and say, let's sit down and pray together," he said. "Instead, they responded to hate with hate. And (Sandmann) transferred that hate to me."

Phillips said, describing the interaction between the CovCath students and the Black Hebrew Israelites, "it was like a tornado."
"I live in the plains and I've watched a tornado come down," he said. "It's very destructive. What I saw in front of me that day was destruction from a terrible storm tearing apart the fabric of my America and threatening the future of all our children. I saw racism and bigotry."

"At first I wanted the teachers and chaperones to be reprimanded, some fired, for letting this happen," Phillips said.

Someone explain how the chaperones could have stopped Phillips from crossing over to the students, as that was the only way to 'prevent letting this happen' .. should they have formed a human chain to prevent the interaction?  Perhaps Phillips needs to accept some responsibility for his part in the incident?

From the recordings there was nothing escalating that required intervention .. the student were not in attack mode, and the racist 5 were certainly not going to attack the students, as I doubt those 'men' could produce a set of balls between all 5 of them...

Sad event, made sadder by the lies told in order to fit a narrative of hate filled 'white privilege' students in MAGA hats!

Update:

CINCINNATI — Native American activist Nathan Phillips has changed his mind and now says he will meet with students at Covington Catholic High School.

He’s offering to travel as a delegate representing the international coalition behind the Indigenous Peoples March to Covington Catholic High School in and have a dialogue about cultural appropriation, racism and the importance of listening to and respecting diverse cultures, he said in a Tuesday news release.

Previously, he told the Cincinnati Enquirer it was "not the right time" to meet with them.

“Race relations in this country and around the world have reached a boiling point,” Phillips said Tuesday. “It is sad that on the weekend of a holiday when we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., racial hostility occurred on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, where King gave his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.”

Is coming as a delegate really coming to have a conversation - or is it coming to talk at the students … seems Phillips is still not ready to accept that his own action played a part in the 'incident' ...?

I hope an honest conversation can take place .. this nation does not need any more divides created through lies...

The more I read and put comments made by Phillips into context .. his arrogance knows no bounds, he is accepting no responsibility - yet at the same time crying out with indignation that Sandmann is taking no responsibility .. Phillips was the one that took it upon himself to stick his nose where it did not belong .. God told him to step in (?) so he is the righteous one?  The boyz were beastly and the black old men their prey - Ooo for Pete's sake can anyone say drama queen/victim?

Phillips, however, claimed to the Detroit Free Press that he put himself "between beast and prey" by standing between the students and a group of Black Hebrew Israelites.
"These young men were beastly and these old black individuals was their prey, and I stood in between them and so they needed their pounds of flesh and they were looking at me for that," he said.

I will have to defer to the peeps with a higher pay scale then I … but to your point, NO I would not want Phillips speaking to my high school age son - I could not trust Phillips to be honest, my son has been raised to respect his elders .. yet respect is still something that is earned, as respect is shown..

..

P.s...  I was just emailing with a good friend from the Crow Nation - he assures me that everyone's body begins to move when the drums begin to sound, it is part of human nature .. not everything can be considered mockery, as it is hard not to get caught up in the moment … just passing along what I was told..

Still think this whole thing is a sad state of affairs...

That Phillips included "cultural appropriation" signals an immediate NO from me. By doing so, he will continue his racist propaganda by telling students that they're not allowed to like certain foods, music, or art because according to Phillips, those things are driven by RACE and not by seeking and understanding acceptance through diversity.

When I researched before I ever commented on any of this I came across a article him and EMU college (Eastern Michigan University) that had notes of this same incident, I read  one article and his statements. then I read another article and his interview and just like with on the Lincoln Memorial his statements changed to make him look more like a victim so then I was suspect.

Because he has a Go fund Me acct and is claiming that he was a recon something or ever in the Marines they have a FOIA on his military history if he has any. You can go to jail for stolen valor.

In addition, she completely misrepresented what actually happened.

I thought about drums in my sleep last night … it is near impossible not to bob ones head, begin to rock your body to the drums beat .. it is primal … essential ... fundamental.  A drum is (to paraphrase what you said) a 'heartbeat to be felt' ……..

No smirk or MAGA hat on now, eh, Nick?  Isn't he just a little darlin'?  Why, he didn't do nothin' wrong and he certainly wasn't being in any way confrontational by standing in that injun's way or even a teensy-weensy bit disrespectful.  On the contrary, his smile was a sign of admiration and respect for Native Americans.  And, anyway, it was the old injun's fault.

Nick is not wearing a Halo, to that I agree … but the truth of the event is found somewhere in the middle of all the stories told.  You and I will most likely never agree on what that truth is … I have no reason to spin events, all I can do is interpret what I see .. you and I interpret differently

Phillips already thought of these students as beasts and the old black men were their prey before he ever felt fearful of them.. at the behest of God, he walked into the group of students intentionally, God told Phillips to 'step in' .. Phillips was not just finishing up and intending to leave the memorial area when he walked into a crowd of high school students, not going there to defend his honor from mockery .. he was there because God told him to step in...

I do not like what happened .. the first clip was unbelievable .. I was instantly angry at the disrespect shown Phillips - but come to find out, that was the media at its best deciding to push the narrative of race and hate, rather than find truth in what actually happened (outrage sells) … if the Black Hebrew Israelites had not released the full unedited video, no version of the truth would have been made available..

I hope so, too. But, Phillips is still claiming that he felt "threatened" by the Covington students even though the real video shows that Phillips and other adults approached the teens and not the way Phillips wants people to believe.

If she could only find a white kid in a red hat to smile at her, she'd be the victim....

Azealia Banks begged Conor McGregor to 'help her' after she unleashed another vile social media rant aimed at Irish people, days after she branded them 'f***ing ugly' on Instagram...

she then branded Irish people 'inbred', 'leprechauns' and asked if they 'had a famine to go die in' in a series of social media comments

You lot are a bunch of prideful inbred leprechauns who have ZERO global influence and ZERO white privilege. The rest of the world's white folk don't want to associate with you lot at all and it's because you are barbarians.

Continuing her rant, she wrote: 'I'm happiest knowing the Irish are quarantined on an isle so they can continue to inbreed and keep their defective genes away from humanity.
