Independent Investigation Shows Covington Boys Told the Truth, Confirms Nathan Phillips is a Liar Amplified by the Media
"We found no evidence of offensive or racist statements by students to Mr. Phillips or members of his group,” the report states.

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

The results of an independent investigation into the January 18, 2019 Lincoln Memorial confrontation between leftist activist Nathan Phillips, black supremacist group the Black Hebrew Israelites and students from Covington Catholic High School were released Wednesday by Greater Cincinatti Investigation, Inc.

The report, which is four pages long, shows what everyone could have known initially if the time was taken to reach for context: Covington students didn't use a single racial slur against either Phillips or the Black Hebrew Israelites and they didn't instigate the confrontation. In fact, it was the opposite.

"We found no evidence of offensive or racist statements by students to Mr. Phillips or members of his group,” the report states. "We found no evidence that the students performed a 'Build the Wall' chant."

The incident went viral after a tiny portion of the more than hour long ordeal was posted on the internet. The boys from Covington, who are teenagers, were accused of "staring down" and hurling racial statements. There was no evidence of this, but because they were white boys wearing "Make America Great Again" hats, confirmation bias claimed it was true. Journalists took Phillips at his word, not because it was true, but because he is Native American. Interestingly, the investigation found in years past some students purchased "Hope" hats in support of former President Barack Obama.

Despite the Black Hebrew Israelites yelling racial slurs at the boys, saying they "were white incest babies" and threatening to harvest their organs, the students were warned not to respond.

"Some students stated that one of the chaperones reminded the students that, if they engaged in a verbal exchange with the Black Israelites, they would receive detention when returning to school," the report states.

Investigators reviewed 50 hours of media on the situation, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and footage used by major news networks. They interviewed dozens of people.

Not surprisingly Phillips, who lied about what the Covington boys said (claiming they chanted 'Build the Wall' -which by the way, isn't a racial slur) and about serving in Vietnam, refused to participate in the investigation.

Overall the investigation found the Covington boys consistently told the truth about what happened. Nathan Phillips is a liar who instigated the situation and the media, with help from politicians and Hollywood celebrities, broadly amplified his false claims.

Parents of the boys who were smeared by false claims are still weighing legal action.

"We have attempted to reach out to Mr. Phillips by phone and by e-mail, informing him that we desired to interview him in person and that we were prepared to meet him in Michigan or any location he might prefer. We also sent Mr. Phillips' daughter an e-mail as they both appear to be involved in the Native Youth Alliance and have shared their e-mail addresses after the event to thank everyone for reaching out and supporting them. We never received a response to our inquiries," the report states. "Mr. Phillip's public interviews contain some inconsistencies, and we have not been able to resolve them or verify his comments due to our inability to contact him."

The "independent investigation" was organized by the bishop.

Not quite accurate, Bob.

The agency hired by the diocese Greater Cincinnati Investigation , said it had spent about 240 hours on the investigation, including examining online video and interviewing 43 students and 13 adult chaperones, including educators and parents. Investigators could not reach Mr. Phillips for an interview, despite traveling to his home in Michigan, and had to rely on Mr. Sandmann’s written statement,  according to the final report .

You're still incorrect. The diocese, not the bishop, hired an independent investigation agency.

Your comments seem to be hinting at something that runs in opposition to the proven innocence of these high school students, Bob. Why don't you just say whatever is on your mind?

By the way, I don't disculpate/exculpate the bishop's rush to pre-judge the children of his diocese. He's as much to blame for spreading the initial false narrative before knowing all facts as Phillips and left wing media is.

he "independent investigation" was organized by the bishop.

You were very happy to cite the bishop's opinions before he had actually investigated what happened.  But now, somehow, independent investigations are tainted simply because of a relationship with the man you cited as the dispostive voice on the subject?

Wouldn't it be easier to admit you only care about conclusions that support your prejudices?

Did you not understand what happened?

The independent investigations hired by the bishop concluded the bishop (who you repeatedly cited) was wrong in offering an uninformed opinion based on an edited video and the published lies of Phillips.  If the Bishop was looking out for himself or acting out of self interest, the report would have supported his original, uninformed, hot take that you parroted.

The bishop condemned the kids, the bishop was not at the MAGA rally (or at least there were no reports of him being present there), the bishop accepted responsibility for condemning the kids.  So, what the heck is your point?  As far as I know, the bishop was as much an outside observer of the incident as you and I.  So, what does the bishop have to clear himself of?

And, if you bothered watching all the full length videos of the incident, it was clear the boys did nothing wrong.  Heck, the only thing that anyone could point to that Sandmann did wrong was "smirk", despite it being a nervous, polite smile to someone invading his space.  Phillips created the confrontation, even completely ignoring a clear path with maybe about a dozen total people on the steps to get into the middle of the Covington kids.  And, as I pointed out to Perrie on another thread, you can clearly see the statue of Abraham Lincoln in the background with the clear path to it that Phillips ignored.

Perhaps you're not acquainted with the legal definition of libel:

libel 1) n. to publish in print (including pictures), writing or broadcast through radio, television or film, an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or his/her reputation, by tending to bring the target into ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt of others.

Considering that they were not public figures at all until the broadcast of the lies about them, they have not only a decent case for libel and slander against most of the media; they are almost guaranteed to win the cases.

So, you are saying that the kids, despite video proof otherwise, surrounded Phillips and shouted racial slurs and that the media showed the entire incident and did not create a story that ridiculed and spread hatred of the kids?  Because, we know that the full video shows that the kids were gathered peacefully on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and were not blocking access to the Memorial and did not do anything that people in the media and on social media accused them of doing.  The full video just from the Black Hebrew Israelites shows the Black Hebrew Israelites chanting "Build the Wall" while throwing racial slurs, and then shows Phillips ignoring the clear path to get into the midst of the kids from Covington and then getting into the face of Sandmann when Sandmann had no options for retreat.  Frankly, due to the editing and lack of the full story initially, libel is not only relevant but the only conclusion to make here.

You keep saying there is no libel, and Jasper posted the legal definition and you said that you knew what the legal definition was.  Therefore, I asked you a question about your argument based on the definition of libel.  Then, I explained why there is not just a case for libel, but a near guarantee that the families of the kids would win such a case.  But, you don't want to admit what your actual position for a lack of libel is, probably because I nailed that position for you.

Investigations of Phillips and his komrades, along with the Black Hebrew Israelite street thugs should be forthcoming. Law-abiding people are fed up with anti-Trump harassment and bullying. This is far from over.

I agree. Nathan Phillips and his friends, along with the street thugs from the Black Hebrew Israelites, should never have verbally and threateningly harassed a group of high school students who were waiting for their school bus. If they had left the kids alone, none of this would have happened.
