Poll shows that as many as 4 out of 5 Republicans may not care if Trump colluded with Russia

Interesting finding from a poll in New Hampshire concerning the 2020 election

Just 22 percent (of Republicans) said they may change their vote if Mueller finds that Trump conspired with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential contest, according to poll results.

So in this result we see yet more evidence that Trump supporters are a detriment to our country. Running away from it or pretending otherwise will not change the truth.  The Trumpster doesn't care about the facts, they care about their feelings that Trump is their tribal leader and they must defend him no matter what.

The rest of us have to stop trying to appeal to trumpsters' reason or even their patriotism. At this point in time those functions are inoperative in the true Trump follower.

We just have to beat them and facilitate the end of this tragic farce era of our history.

Although Democrats are gearing up for what is expected to be a crowded 2020 nomination fight, a new poll suggests that most New Hampshire Republicans hope to see just one candidate on the ballot in their state’s early presidential primary next year: Donald Trump.

A University of Massachusetts Amherst poll released this week found that 61 percent of likely New Hampshire Republican voters believe the incumbent president should not be challenged in the first-in-the-nation 2020 GOP primary.

By contrast, just over a third -- 39 percent -- said they would like to see other Republican presidential candidates on the ballot in New Hampshire as Trump seeks re-election.

UMass Poll Director Tatishe Nteta argued that despite the majority support for Trump running unopposed in the 2020 primary, the president’s re-election bid could face some trouble in New Hampshire “given the comparatively higher levels of turnout among highly educated voters."

Voters with with college degrees said they oppose Trump facing primary challenges by a narrower 53 to 47 percent margin, while those with post-graduate education rejected the idea 60 to 40 percent, according to poll results.

Jesse Rhodes, an associate professor of political science and associate director of the UMass Poll, added that slightly higher primary challenge support among younger voters and women -- 41 to 59 percent respectively -- suggests there could be “bigger problems for Trump and for the Republican Party.”

“In a diversifying electorate, the GOP can ill afford to drive away members of these groups,” he said in a statement.

Beyond opposing primary challenges against Trump, less than a quarter of likely New Hampshire GOP primary voters said they would reconsider their support for the president pending the findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the 2016 election.

Just 22 percent said they may change their vote if Mueller finds that Trump conspired with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential contest, according to poll results.

Even fewer, or 16 percent, said they’d reconsider their support if the special counsel concludes that the president directed his attorney, Michael Cohen, to lie to Congress.

The UMass Poll further found that only 14 percent of likely New Hampshire GOP primary voters would change their support for the president if Mueller found that Trump obstructed justice by firing former FBI Director James Comey and engaged in witness tampering.

Trump has been a crook and an asshole his entire adult life. Such a person is not fit to serve in national office.

If someone told you 20 years ago that in 20 years we would have a president who had openly lied to the public thousands of times , you would have said that the person who told you that was nuts.

Isn't that the truth. The bar is now "concrete proof of felony conspiracy" and the fact that he surrounded himself with a bunch of fall guys who have know either plead guilty, been convicted or are under indictment doesn't matter in the slightest to Republicans. Sure, if that had been a Democrat President with so many hand picked criminals around him they would have already been calling for impeachment, but that's just more evidence of the GOP's blatant hypocrisy.

What's most likely to happen when Mueller issues a report confirming there was no collusion or obstruction of justice on Trump's part, is that  those thoughtful 22% will quickly come back into the Republican fold. Coming along with them will be loads and loads of independents and lots and lots of Democrats, finally convinced that the party of FDR and JFK cannot lead or inspire us to greatness, but has gone too far left and seems intent only in obstructing of Trump, and the spreading of hate.

Or there may not even be a report, or it may be all redacted, or.....???

While I suspect there has been some detrimental alignment of those in close proximity to Trump and Russia, and I want the matter fully investigated, I'm also willing to wait to pass judgement until all investigative bodies have issued their reports.  I feel the same way about the potential revolving around obstruction of justice charges of the same, and for those in congress that can be found to have assisted in obstructing effort to get to the truth.

Call me a boy scout, or whatever, but I still believer in due process.

I'll just put it to you like this - Donald Trump is irredeemable.  IF Mueller gives him a clean bill of health because his obstruction and collusion are legally not provable, he will still be the most unfit for the office president of the United States in the history of this country.

On Wednesday this coming week Michael Cohen is said to be going to testify to Congress that Trump is completely corrupt and unethical. Cohen may be a liar in some respects, but when he says those things he will just be reinforcing what we all have already seen.

That's nice, and somewhat revealing. No one mentioned perjury or post facto obstruction of justice. The poll references a potential finding by Mueller that Trump conspired with Russia to effect the election. 78% of Republicans have said (in the poll) that they don't think Trump collusion would turn them against him.

Define what the collusion consists of. What percentage of democrats do you think would have supported President Hillary Clinton once it was revealed she paid Russian officials for information on Trump.  Can you honestly argue with a straight face less that less than 78% of Democrats would still support her, despite her work with Russian officials to sabotage Trump?

I would still support him if it actually turned out to be true. After all, it worked, didn't it, as Harry Reid would have said. But we know it is not a bit true, and that the real colluders were Hillary and  all her gang of thugs. There is overwhelming evidence the Democrats actively colluded with the Russians. Some on the left feel it is necessary to invent "facts" to bolster their weak-sauce arguments.

This has been my issue with criticism of Trump from Day 1. And by Day 1, I mean June 16, 2015 when he announced he was running for president . He talked about border security and said that some people coming over the border were criminals and some were good people. He said it wasn't just Mexico, that it was Latin America, China, and other countries. The press severely warped what he said and reported that Trump said Mexicans are rapists and murderers. They lied. That bullshit has been going on ever since.

There are plenty of reasons to disagree with or criticize Trump, just as there would be with any politician, but I have never seen the press or a political party lie about one man as much as they lie about Trump.

June 16, 2015 -- setting the tone for an unpredictable and polarizing campaign.

.

"He's not a war hero," Trump said of Arizona Sen. John McCain, a Republican. "He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."

Trump made the comments at The Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, on July 18, 2015.

.

"You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her, wherever."

Trump said that about Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly during a CNN interview on Aug. 7, 2015,

.

On Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul: "I never attacked him on his look, and believe me, there's plenty of subject matter right there."

The Republican presidential debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in California on Sept. 16, 2015.

.

"Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on. According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population."

Written statement on Dec. 7, 2015. Trump spoke that evening about his proposal during a rally aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

.

"I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering."

Trump made the assertion at a rally in Birmingham, Ala., on Nov. 21, 2015. He has said specifically that "thousands of Muslims were cheering." The claim has been debunked.

.

"His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald's being, you know, shot," Trump said of his rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. "Nobody even brings it up, I mean they don't even talk about that. That was reported and nobody talks about it."

citing a National Enquirer story -- on Fox News as the Indiana primary was held on May 3, 2016.

.

On Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul: "I never attacked him on his look, and believe me, there's plenty of subject matter right there."

The Republican presidential debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in California on Sept. 16, 2015

And on and on and on, it goes.

I have the impression that if he wasn't trying to lose the campaign, he wasn't trying so very hard to win as much as to  boost his own brand recognition.

He was far too concerned with campaign contributions and "his money" to allow

Chris Christie any money to build a transition team or ethics training.  He thought it was a waste of "his money" because he did not expect to win.

.

Harry Truman is generally referred to as The Accidental President.  But President Trump more than qualifies for this nickname as well. IMO.

That's fine. Criticize him for what he said. I think that's valid. He says plenty of things I disagree with or disapprove. Some of the stuff I heard during the Republican primary debates, I thought I was listening to 7th graders insult each other - and that mostly came from Trump. But when the media or his opponents exaggerate what he said and attack the exaggeration, it invites less partisan critics into the position of defending him.

For example, Trump doesn't think all Mexicans are rapists and murderers. He doesn't even think all Mexican immigrants are rapists and murders. He doesn't even think all illegal immigrants are rapists and murderers. He thinks some illegal immigrants are rapists or murders. And that's actually true! It's probably not a lot, but it is true.

And getting back to Russia, he didn't ask Russia to steal anything. He didn't have to. The Washington Post reported two weeks earlier that Russia had hacked the DNC servers, so it was recent news that this kind of thing was going on and secret Democratic server data was out there somewhere.

Also, it was known that the hacked servers had DNC research and strategies to defeat Trump. That is, the hack made Trump vulnerable. It's therefore not weird that Trump would want the hackers or anyone else to release something that might harm Clinton as well. Maybe the missing emails he kept harping on were in there. (Probably not, but it gave him a reason to mention them for the umpteenth time)

I find it very partisan and unfair that people are horrified at the idea that the Clinton campaign might have been harmed by Russian hackers, but no one cares that the Trump campaign might have been harmed by it. We should be bothered by all hacking and concerned for everyone who might be harmed by it.

i think the media was incredulous and they should have been.

As for the 30,000 emails that were reportedly personal and deleted by an attorney hired to cover her butt legally, Trump suggested that "the Russians" should find those emails.

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Trump proclaimed. He added, “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

IF those emails were truly personal private property, then that's one legal problem.

If they were in any way related to Clinton's work for State, that's a bigger issue for both Clinton and Trump as well.

In asking Russia to find Clinton’s emails, presidential candidate Trump violated this statutory prohibition on seeking help from a foreign country to influence an election. Trump in essence called on a foreign adversary to locate and release something that was of great value to him and his campaign

As the internet gets larger and larger, looking more lawless every day, is it any wonder that fringe media outlets have gotten bolder and bolder with so called reporting?

This didn't start with Trump. Obama and Bush both survived 8 years each.  But they were at least qualified for the job and not under personal investigation daily. IMO.

They were qualified? You have a very, very different definition than I do of being qualified to be President of the US.  Trump, Bush Jr, and Obama all met the legal requirements for being POTUS; but then so do millions of other US citizens. But qualified, not even close.

and not under personal investigation daily.

Yes, they were far smarter than Trump and both had a thick layer of yes men, and women, willing to fall on their political and personal swords to keep both out of all investigations.  Trump is a political moron that the media, and Establishment politicians and government officials, exploit it every day.  He did the impossible and won the Presidency while being a true "Establishment outsider".  They have been trying to make an example of him ever since.  Next thing you know everyday Joe and Jane six pack will think they can run for president and win.
