Max Linn, an Independent running for the Senate in Maine against Republican Susan Collins and Democrat Sara Gideon, cut several face masks into pieces with a pair of scissors during a televised debate Monday night to demonstrate his disdain for a statewide mask mandate.

The signs are being put up despite the fact that the Secretary of State disqualified Linn from the June 12 Republican primary because he didn't collect enough valid voter signatures. Key Facts
Under an April Executive Order, Maine residents were required to wear face coverings in public places, and in July, Democratic Governor Janet Mills issued another Executive Order requiring large retail businesses, restaurants, outdoor bars, and lodging establishments in Maine's more populous cities to enforce the State's face covering requirement.
During Monday's debate, the second among Maine's U.S. Senate hopefuls, each candidate was asked to address Maine's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I want to cut these masks right in front of our viewers," Linn declared while slicing up several masks. "I want to be the first Senate candidate and your first senator in the United States to say I protest government telling us what we have to wear and telling us what our businesses are necessary and what are unnecessary."
The shredded masks laid on the ground in front of his podium for the remainder of the debate.
At the first debate on September 11, Linn made news when the moderator asked him a question about health care, to which Linn replied, "I am going to put your question aside and I have a bombshell to announce."
When the moderator pressed Linn to address the question directly, Linn said, "Request Denied."
Key Background:
Linn, a retired financial planner from Bar Harbor who has previously expressed strong support for President Trump, ran for governor in Florida as a Reform Party candidate in 2006 and then ran for a Florida Congressional seat as a Democrat in 2008. Linn was disqualified from Maine's 2018 Republican U.S. Senate primary after "signatures purportedly from dead Mainers showed up on his nominating petitions."

A Trump supporter? What a surprise.
morons like this one don't want the gov't to make health choices for them, yet have no problem voting for anti-choice candidate scum on the ballots.
So like trumpturd, you want to rail against the government that you're supposed to represent?
Last I heard, he represents his constituents NOT the government.
Blah, blah, blah . . .
All this doofus will do is take votes away from Collins and help the Democrat candidate.
You guys should love him ....
Yeah...he's a real peach
If he'd correctly gathered signatures and got on the ballot it wouldn't be an issue - since Maine has instant runoff balloting. Not sure how being a write in candidate will factor in to that process.
Wait a minute...I thought that was some thing only Democrats did:
"signatures purportedly from dead Mainers showed up on his nominating petitions."
I'll check RealClearPolitics polls but I'm pretty sure the dead vote does not favor Independents this year. Then again, they may be under sampled.
... under sampled by 6 feet of dirt.
I've been called brain dead...they could sample me
I'm sure you would make a tasty fillet - too bad you have no "sole".
I don't know Adam...... Many have take Trout Giggles for granite only to find out she's a little boulder!
Good one
Oh boy
giggle
I'm not good at puns
Little know rule - we are on a pun quota system here and it's getting close to the end of the month and we gotta make our numbers.
....2/3rds of a PUN..... P..U...!
OK - I'll mark you down for 2/3s of a pun. You're still way behind in your quota.
I can think of plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike masks. They make it harder to breathe through the nose (something already hard for me); they're hot; it's hard to understand people talking through them; they fog up your glasses or sunglasses; it's near impossible to read facial expressions, etc.
I doubt anyone in the country prefers life with masks.
But this angry, near violent resistance to wearing masks - temporarily, in limited settings, to fight a deadly pandemic - just mystifies me.
I don't know - it's gonna be kinda tough to give up sticking my tongue out with impunity at people I don't like .
But - yeah - It is a bit of a pain.
I don't think anyone likes wearing them. I really hate the glasses fogging up bit.
I got so distracted with my mask on I tried lighting a cigarette.
I'm not crazy about it either but it's better than the alternative.
I think I have just the thing for you .
The social drinking mask can also be used for smoking, lmao !
I love this place. Everyone is so helpful

"I want to be the first Senate candidate and your first senator in the United States to say I protest government telling us what we have to wear and telling us what businesses are necessary and what are unnecessary.”
I agree with what he is saying. I can see recommendations but mandates are a bridge too far for me. I also believe it is unacceptable for government to decide what businesses are necessary and unnecessary.
As a libertarian through and through, you've never given a crap about anything but yourself.... The same America that provides you with the opportunity to be selfish is the one you won't support to keep healthy and vibrant.... How Ironic.
No I'm doing fine because government has decided I'm essential. I feel bad for all those that are facing hardships as a result of the governments heavy hand. They are the ones needlessly suffering and I care about them. Lately I've been eating at restaurants more than I normally do because I know they need our help so they don't go under.
