Biden Transition Live Updates: Electoral College Affirms Biden’s Victory
President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. surpassed the 270-vote threshold in the Electoral College when California’s electors cast their votes, after a day in which the process unfolded smoothly.

IT'S DONE!!!!!

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. surpassed the 270-vote threshold in the Electoral College when California’s electors cast their votes, after a day in which the process unfolded smoothly.

Joseph R. Biden Jr. was affirmed as the president-elect on Monday as members of the Electoral College pushed him past the 270 threshold to win the White House, all but ending a disruptive chapter in American history in which President Trump sought to use legal challenges and political pressure to overturn the results of a free and fair election.

The president-elect passed the threshold after California cast its 55 votes for Mr. Biden on Monday evening, capping a day marked by heightened security in battleground states and an unusual level of scrutiny for what is normally a formal, procedural affair.

With supporters of Mr. Trump promising to mount protests outside of some statehouses, officials took extra steps to ensure the safety of the electors. Lawmakers in Michigan, citing credible threats, closed the Capitol building to the public, as did Wisconsin, where electors in Madison were ushered into to a side entrance at the State Capitol for the noon vote.

Yet Monday’s votes were largely smooth; there were no protests that disrupted the proceedings. Indeed, in many battleground states, police presence outnumbered protesters, and the normally staid process carried out by the Electoral College went uninterrupted.

“It’s not just out of tradition but to show folks, especially now more than ever, our system works,” said Gov. Chris Sununu, the Republican governor of New Hampshire, before the electors in his state all cast their votes for Mr. Biden on Monday morning.

The vote on Monday officially sends Mr. Biden to the White House, assuming the presidency after a trying election marked by deep divisions and a devastating pandemic that crippled the country and disrupted voting. Mr. Biden has been working aggressively to fill out his cabinet to prepare for when he takes office in January, aiming to have a team ready to combat the coronavirus and begin the long recovery.

The president-elect is expected to speak tonight about the Electoral College results.

The vote follows six weeks of unprecedented efforts by Mr. Trump to intervene in the electoral process and change the outcome of an election he lost by about seven million votes. He was joined by many Republicans who supported his unfounded claims of voter fraud, including 126 party members and 17 state attorneys general who supported a case before the Supreme Court that legal experts said had no merit. The court rejected the case on Friday.

President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. plans to declare that “it is time to turn the page” on the 2020 election in a speech Monday evening after the Electoral College formally casts its votes for him to replace President Trump on January 20.

“We the People voted,” Mr. Biden plans to say, according to excerpts provided by his transition team. “Faith in our institutions held. The integrity of our elections remains intact. And so, now it is time to turn the page. To unite. To heal.”

Mr. Trump has sought for weeks to reverse the outcome of the election with baseless and unproven accusations of voter fraud in the swing states that delivered the victory to Mr. Biden. The president has refused to concede while he and his allies have undermined faith in the country’s democratic system of governance.

Even on Monday, as the electors gathered in states around the country to cast their votes, Mr. Trump tweeted about a “Rigged Election!” and “massive fraud,” allegations that were quickly labeled as “disputed” by Twitter.

In his speech, Mr. Biden is expected to express confidence that the defining feature of American democracy — its electoral process — would survive Mr. Trump’s assault.

“If anyone didn’t know it before, we know it now. What beats deep in the hearts of the American people is this: Democracy,” Mr. Biden plans to say. “The right to be heard. To have your vote counted. To choose the leaders of this nation. To govern ourselves. In America, politicians don’t take power — the people grant it to them.”

As he has for weeks, Mr. Biden plans to keep his focus on the raging coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 300,000 people in the United States. Though first responders, doctors and others have begun receiving the first doses of a vaccine, Mr. Biden is expected to warn that the months ahead will be difficult.

“There is urgent work in front of all of us,” he plans to say. “Getting the pandemic under control to getting the nation vaccinated against this virus. Delivering immediate economic help so badly needed by so many Americans who are hurting today — and then building our economy back better than ever.”

Not sure on that. When Barr resigned he also said some pretty nice things about Trump, and said he still supports Trump. So maybe he is hoping Trump will still pardon him for his generous pack pats.

Doubtful...but, Barr can hope after making an even bigger fool out of himself on the way out.

Perhaps not in spite of, but, because of the insanity at play. Trump himself proved beyond a doubt just how totally insane he truly is. And so have his rabid supporters. As well as a good many of the Congressional GOP who once supported him, and who now support Biden and recognize him as the President-Elect.

And there even a good many GOP lawmakers who are leaving the GOP because of Trump's moronic and insane actions and words that have put the GOP reputation in the trash bin, and it will be for some time to come.

And those lawmakers who chose to continue to support Trump and making a fool or not only themselves, but, as a whole, will find it hard to find a re-election in their favor going forward. They proved their loyalty is not with America, and they can not be trusted to take their Oath seriously and/or put America first.

I wonder what Trump is going to do next.  If he is as nuts as some of his followers he will come up with something like the Chinese used radiated impulses from their satellites to penetrate the brains of those who voted against him.  Hey, that's not so out of line.  There's a member of NT who actually posted a comment elsewhere that there were some Chinese scientists involved in the creation of the Pfizer and other vaccines, so it would be dangerous to be vaccinated by them.  I ridiculed his comment and wear the ticket I got from one of the other Trump sheep for doing so as a badge of honour.  Talk about insanity.

The intention being to put on 'BLAST' any data point they can beg, borrow, or steal. This will not be an easy presidency in 2021. So that will leave only humans who will either deliberately or accidentally let their mouths overload their brains.

And there is no reason why it cannot be done. Objections and/or arguments against it are not reasonable in the effort to keep our country and government safe from our enemies interference, foreign or domestic.

When that happens, then we our country and its people will have better control over them to a much better degree. Far better than what we have now thanks to Trump.

And to have them all checked at least every three months or less at random. Then that would let them know that they are eating the dead and dying grass, not the good hay anymore.

I often ask people "wouldn't you be glad to be wrong?" about someone. To be clear, these justices in question are yet conservatives. While we can take satisfaction in them performing their responsibilities and holding themselves accountable, we must acknowledge how the courts - especially the high court - signaled for months for this administration to 'tighten-up' on its submissions for legal consideration. The Trump Administration ever the hard-head didn't heed the advice and are paying dearly for it.

Things might have gone differently had the court been given something worthy to 'attend.' (But, is'nt that the foundational narrative of the Trump presidency - one man wrecking ball taking on all the systems of government in ram-rod fashion?)

As Biden is the official President-Elect, with no hope seen at this point that Trump can pull his magic tricks out of the outhouse now, I for one would like to see those who believe that Biden is officially is now the lawful President-Elect, put Trump in the past where he belongs now and think of how we can help make America the best country again.

How we can make our allies our Friends again and not our enemies, and how to let our enemies know they can't dictate to our country again. And that we are not cowards or afraid to stand up to them.

Help our Brothers and Sisters who are starving, homeless, jobless, suffering financially, mentally and emotionally from all walks of life, the poor, all skin colors, religions, beliefs, languages and ethnic backgrounds. THEY are what makes America great, not just the rich and politically advantages who think they should run the country.

And I for one have had enough of Trump....he is now no longer the main attraction of America, only to himself and his moron supporters. And maybe the center ring attraction in some court up stream. I don't care. I don't need to care. My life does not depend on Trump. And I am sick to death of hearing and/or seeing him and his name and anything about him. He is yesterdays' history however it plays out in the future.

WE....ALL OF US, are what makes America America. And WE THE PEOPLE have not forgotten who WE THE PEOPLE ARE!!

I'm still not flattered that you know my every word/post.

Not interested.

tRumpturd is a big fat loser, always has been, always will be.

Is Trump the topic here, or could you just not help yourself and forced him into it to satisfy that TDS itch?

You forgot the ones whose very existence seems to depend on hating their President and his wife--you know, the ones with all the 3rd-grade names for him and her.

I wonder if those effects of TDS will diminish over time for the sufferers, or will they still be whining about Trump years from now?

I bet they will be still whining.

306 to 232 electoral vote margin. That is a landslide according to Trump in 2016.

Biden 81 million popular votes.

Trump joined a select group of losers. One term president.

So it is what it is.

And it's final.

Really Bob? You're going to nit pick about grammar? Generally speaking, one shouldn't begin a sentence with a conjunction.
