Be Honest, did you ever think we would see this in America?

Our country has become so jaded and disconnected from reality that we stand back in almost complete apathy and indifference as the sitting president of the United States plots open abuse of power in order to nullify an election he plainly lost. This is purely the stuff of Hollywood movies that depicted political paranoia and the overthrow of the government, yet it is real.
Trump and Powell met in the Oval Office Friday night , ABC News has confirmed, and were joined by Trump's former national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who has been publicly prodding Trump to take unprecedented steps to seize a second term -- including declaring martial law and ordering the military to oversee new elections in the battleground states that Trump lost.
"[Trump] could take military capabilities and he could place them in those states and basically rerun an election in each of those states, " Flynn said earlier this week on the conservative news outlet Newsmax.
President Trump AGREED with these ideas, according to published reports, and had to be walked back from them by other aides at the meeting who objected to using the military in order to try and keep Trump in office past Jan 20.
He is dissuaded, for now, but who knows what the next week will bring? Right wing media, including shows which Trump personally watches, continue to claim that he won the election but had it stolen from him by voting machines and vote counting software made in and controlled from communist and socialist countries.
This isnt just offensive, it's nuts. It is a plot from an HBO or Netflix miniseries.
Why is the rest of our government standing idly by and pretending there is anything about this that is normal or acceptable?
Right wing media is floating the idea that Chief Justice John Roberts was shouting at the conservative justices before the SC rejected a pro Trump election lawsuit, with Roberts saying that the Court had to turn down Trump's efforts because if they didn't there would be riots in the streets.
Although I don't believe that ever happened at the Supreme Court, I'm sure there would be "riots" if Trump was somehow able to successfully overturn the will of the people and actually claim a right to stay in office. Riots might be a polite term for it.
