As America emerges from its socially distanced bubble, "critical race theory" continues to dominate headlines. For those basking in white privilege, critically evaluating the racial caste system feels terrifying. They fear tectonic plates shifting beneath our social landmass.

Our nation is in the process of exchanging color-blind ideology with anti-racism. White people will have to take a good, hard look in the mirror and into their family albums. Some are afraid of the skeletons they will find, and others are leery of the theory that will make them take a look in the first place.

White people want to focus on selected parts of American history, lionizing their role. Many choose to ignore that the gap between Black and white homeownership is wider than it was 50 years ago. Or that Black families have one-tenth the wealth as white ones. Currently, Black people are 3.25 times more likely to die in police encounters.

Acknowledging disparities means white people would feel pressure to address inequalities, something many would rather ignore.White people who fear critical race theory ironically oppose the very theory which could provide them cultural competency. And while any Black writer could compose a saga on the nonchalance of white Americans, there is another factor at play here. Most white people do not understand critical race theory. They simply oppose it at face value.

Society loves to give white people the benefit of the doubt. When conservatives like Mitch McConnell or Donald Trump call critical race theory un-American, people assume they understand what they oppose. They've called the theory Marxist, attempting to conflate critical legal studies (CLS) with critical race theory (CRT). Nuance means nothing to those attempting to distort a powerful message.

If you think that white people do not need to understand critical race theory to oppose it, consider the following. Imagine that a man wants to disprove the theory of gravitation. He would have to first understand force, the gravitational constant, the mass of two objects, and the center of their masses. Then, he would need to show why this theory is false. To invalidate an established theory, someone has to show their work, demonstrate how it is faulty. Unless a man could defy the law of gravity, I doubt he would get his feet off the ground. More importantly, no one would take his critique seriously.

In society, disagreements are normal and, in some instances, can strengthen our resolve. However, basing your opposition on a lack of understanding is foolhardy. Americans should evaluate critical race theory, its tenets. Then, they can decide for themselves whether or not this theory is harmful or helpful for American school children.

What is critical race theory?

"Critical race theory recognizes that systemic racism is part of American society and challenges the beliefs that allow it to flourish." (Karimi, 2021)

First things first. Critical race theory recognizes race as a social construct rather than a biological function. In other words, people who come from different races are not sub-humans or sub-species. We are all one race — the human race. Colorblind theorists love this part. But, they are not so keen on what follows.

Race is a social construct developed by white colonists. The subsequent laws of enslavement and segregation derive from a false theory of white supremacy. You may ask yourself, why is white supremacy a false theory? Simply put, differences amongst racial groups are due to environmental and social factors. So, the idea of white people being inherently superior to other races has no scientific merit. But, that did not stop scientists from claiming Black people were inferior.

Negroes, with their smaller brains and blood vessels, and their tendency toward indolence and barbarism, Cartwright told fellow doctors, had only to be kept benevolently in the state of submission. (Ruane, 2019).

Critical race theory does not assert that Black people are superior to other races. On the contrary, it posits that Black people are equal to other racial groups but have been systematically oppressed because of the creation of the racial caste system.

Secondly, critical race theory asserts that racism is systemic, not aberrational. While white people often view instances like George Floyd's death as an anomaly, this theory postulates that racism is something people of color endure consistently in American society.

The third tenet asserts that Black people's legal setbacks benefit white people. Consider the current fight for voting rights. Taking away access to Black people benefits white people. When Georgia Deputy Cody Griggers charged Black people with fake felonies, he acted on this point. He understood that holding Black people back strengthened the shrinking, white voting block.

White Deputy Stripped Black People of Voting Rights — Charged Them With Fake Felonies

momentum.medium.com.

The fourth tenet of critical race theory asserts that Black people endure "different radicalization," resting on racial stereotypes. Othering Black people dehumanizes them, greenlighting acts of overt racism. Suddenly, it becomes okay to stop the Black man rather than the white one if you accept the racist premise that Black people are inherently dangerous.

Othering is ugly, as seen in Germany's holocaust or America's Trail of Tears. Different radicalization explains why slavery could persist in the first place. Critical race theory postulates that this dynamic takes place and continues to threaten people of color.

The fifth tenet of critical race theory is "intersectionality." This theory hypothesizes individuals cannot be placed into a single, identifying box. For example, a Black woman is both Black and female. By viewing a woman as only Black, for example, society would fail to understand the way her womanhood impacts her lived experience. Critical race theory posits that people are dynamic and interdimensional.

Lastly, the sixth tenet asserts the need for a "voice of colour." Critical race theorists believe that someone from the same group is the best person to speak for them. Under this theory, representation matters because a Black man would be theoretically more in tune with other Black men's specific needs and experiences. As Tim Scott demonstrated, this theory is an approximation. Someone's skin color or sex does not guarantee they would be the group's best advocate. The theory simply postulates they would be more likely to be a better representative.

Critical race theorists believe in the power of "storytelling." When Black people share their experiences, they help to inform the public about their perspective, hopefully shifting the social climate. Critical race theory contains different groups of thought. Legal scholars published the aforementioned tenets in 1989 at a Workshop on Critical Race to create more structure for their theory.

"Critical race theory is a practice. It's an approach to grappling with a history of White supremacy that rejects the belief that what's in the past is in the past, and that the laws and systems that grow from that past are detached from it," said Kimberle Crenshaw, a founding critical race theorist and a law professor who teaches at UCLA and Columbia University." (Karimi, 2021)

Is critical race theory Marxist?

Critical race theory is not the same as Marxism. For starters, CRT does not promote the same economic or political vision. Critical race theorists do believe, however, that traditional liberal movements have failed to deliver progress for Black people. Incrementalism and colorblind ideology has failed, so the natural progression is to focus on identities. That much is self-evidenced by the two-step forward and one step back civil rights struggle Black Americans experience. Critical race theorists advocate for structural change.

"Unlike CLS scholars, however, critical race theorists did not wish to abandon the notions of law and legal rights altogether, because in their experience, some laws and legal reforms had done much to help oppressed or exploited people." (Britannica, 2021).

While some white conservatives would have the world think that critical race theory is attempting to destroy the government or the laws that keep us safe, they are either wholly ignorant about these theories or purposefully misleading people to frighten them. You be the judge. However, one thing is blatantly clear — critical race theory is not Marxist, and its supporters do not endorse communism.

Most white people do not understand critical race theory. They simply oppose it at face value.

Acknowledging America's social hierarchy could provide much-needed healing in a nation, once torn apart by my ancestor's seditious slavers. However, some white people rather make critical race theory into a boogie man. White people who fear critical race theory are using deflection 101. They will do anything to distract from their role in maintaining white supremacy.

Mitch McConnell has a conflict of interest

White men like Mitch McConnell love telling Black people "no." He took joy in blocking our first Black president Obama's agenda and judicial nominations. For years, McConnell referred to himself as the Grim Reaper, blocking popular, progressive legislation. He wore this title with pride. Men like McConnell kill more than legislation; they kill dreams. Maybe they should call him Freddy Krueger instead.

White men often puff out their chests to declare, " I never owned slaves ." However, many of those same men could not say the same for their predecessors. The federal government compensated slave owners and slaves and their descendants received nothing. Over 150 years after slavery, Black people are still suffering from a staggering race-wealth gap.

White people continue to benefit from the forced labor of African slaves — they've inherited it. Mitch McConnell is the descendent of slave owners, and his family's wealth is a testament to the back-breaking work of my ancestors. And while this stings, this is not all about feelings. Check the census information.

Source: Genealogy and census records | Graphic: Nigel Chiwaya / NBC News

White people, whose families owned slaves, have the audacity to say they do not want to talk about critical race theory. I do not know who they think they are fooling with this "in the past" time nonsense. There is a direct link between his family owning slaves and the position he holds today. He is the embodiment of the policies they attempted to maintain. When a white man says we should not discuss critical race theory in schools, tell him, " I think thee doth protest too much ."

Where do we go from here?

"Critical race theorists hold that the law and legal institutions in the United States are inherently racist insofar as they function to create, and maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between whites and nonwhites, especially African Americans." (Britannica, 2021).

If someone disagrees with critical race theory, respectfully ask them what in particular they take issue with. For example, do they deny that slavery occurred, that the subsequent Jim Crow laws maintained a racial hierarchy, that racial disparities continue to exist in the modern era? Or do they feel that injustices should persist or that we should never discuss inequities in American society? Then, ask them what evidence they have for these claims.

Many white people have chosen ignorance over enlightenment and want to demonize a theory they do not understand. Talking about America's original sin is not unAmerican and white men wouldn't be running from a conversation about race if they were truly proud of all American history. Burying undesirable aspects of this nation's history create sycophants, not patriots. Critical race theory buts heads with American exceptionalism. It asks us to evaluate the racial, social hierarchy and to dismantle systems and beliefs that maintain inequalities. That's the grand scheme. And if that vision of a diverse, inclusive, honest America frightens you, what does that say about your loyalty to democracy?

I tend to agree with all of those points.  It could be said that a lack of understanding (based on incomplete information), or perhaps the reliance on misinformation, is what leads us to distrust and fear most of the time.  Skepticism can be a good thing, but it should lead to a rational quest for more knowledge and a better understanding, not simply linger as an irrational fear.

First of all, Critical Race Theory is not about the Black population or the history of the Black population.  CRT is all about the white population.  CRT provides a forum for telling a highly selective and distorted history of the white population.

Secondly, it's not white privilege; [deleted]  The Black population has played a prominent role in the Democratic Party since its inception in 1829.  The Black population is still prominent in the politics of the Democratic Party for the same reasons.  [deleted]

The League of Nations was created by segregationist Woodrow Wilson, leader of the Democratic Party at that time.

Thirdly, condemning the white population for slave owners in their past also condemns the Black population for slaves in their past.  Once and always a slave owner can't be decoupled from once and always a slave.  There can't be slave owners without slaves.  The political expediency to revive the past also condemns both the white population and Black population to perpetuating that past.  And we already know which sides each of those populations represent.

CRT is all about the white population.

It's about studying the effects of racism in laws and society, it just so happens that the white populations are almost always the beneficiaries of any inequality found, or at least rarely the ones being discriminated against or marginalized.

Secondly, it's not white privilege; it's Democrat privilege.

This moronic unproven claim again? Making such ridiculous statements just invalidates any possible argument you are trying to make.

The Democratic Party bears a very great deal of responsibility for slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, and, today, institutional racism.

Southern white Christian conservative ideology bears a very great deal of responsibility for slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, and, today, institutional racism, they just happened to share a common name that many party's throughout American history have used. There was the Democratic-Republican Party, the Christian Democratic Party, The Democratic Labour Party, The Conservative Democrat Party, The Democratic Peoples Party, The Progressive Democratic Party, The Civic Democratic Party, The United Democratic Party, The Democratic Socialist Party, The States Rights Democratic Party and half a dozen more.

In fact, in 1828 supporters of Andrew Jackson had begun calling themselves Democrats. They wanted small government, and they opposed trade protection, national banks, and paper money.

The different parties are not defined by the use of a word that's root is "Democracy" in their names, they are defined by their ideology.

The States Rights Democratic Party arose due to a Southern regional split in opposition to the Democratic Party. After President Harry S. Truman, a member of the Democratic Party, ordered integration of the military in 1948 and other actions to address civil rights of African Americans, many Southern conservative white politicians who objected to this course organized themselves as a breakaway faction. Their ideology was firmly established in their own party platform which was ideologically opposed to the democratic Party platform at the time, their Southern conservative platform stated "We stand for the segregation of the races and the racial integrity of each race; the constitutional right to choose one's associates; to accept private employment without governmental interference, and to earn one's living in any lawful way. We oppose the elimination of segregation, the repeal of miscegenation statutes, the control of private employment by Federal bureaucrats called for by the misnamed civil rights program. We favor home-rule, local self-government and a minimum interference with individual rights."

Not even the Democratic Party of the 1940's and 50's was ideologically in line with the Southern conservative States Rights Democratic party, that's why there was a schism. And they are even more diametrically opposed today. Anyone who is still desperately trying to link the two is either woefully ignorant, intentionally obtuse or trying to hide their own complicity and agreement with the old States Rights Democratic party platform which has essentially been picked up and adopted by modern day conservative Republicans. The white Christian conservatives who used to belong to the Southern Democratic party or the States Rights Democratic party didn't leave the south, they didn't all die off as some have tried to claim, they still control the South, they still defend the monuments to the confederacy their ancestors erected, they still fly confederate flags, they still honor their confederate ancestry, they just don't vote for Democrats anymore because they are ideologically opposed to what the modern progressive Democratic Party has become, a party that protects minority rights and is proactive in righting the wrongs of the past and accept the facts found when examining the racial inequalities that still exist in our laws and society.

I would bet that if you spoke to all three of those men in that photo they would tell you that they have all experienced discrimination, that they all had to struggle to make it in a society built for and run by white Christians who seem oblivious to their plight. Just because many are able to overcome those roadblocks and hate and are able to achieve something more than perhaps their parents and peers were able to doesn't mean everything is fine and we can stop worrying about the effects of race in our laws and society. That black lawyer no doubt knows very well how his client will likely get a longer sentence if convicted, be less likely to be offered early parole, will likely have a higher bail amount and was more likely to end up where he is now than a young white man even though white do and deal drugs at the same or higher rates. I'm sure both the officer and attorney have had the "talk" with their own children, preparing them for being pulled over and profiled, being followed by security in department stores, something white parents often don't even know exists. So while some ignorant calloused white bigots may use their photo in an attempt to deflect any responsibility, I've no doubt all three would vehemently disagree with the flawed message it presents. Color may not define their future, but it certainly presents hurdles and difficulties they've had to overcome that white Americans did not.

Jim would have to show me where any curriculum teaches white kids they SHOULD be ashamed, for me to believe him. That said any teacher that tells children to be ashamed of things beyond their control should be relieved of duties and removed from ever working with children. It's not ethical. There is a difference between teaching children history in context and how it applies to a modern or future society and telling them they are responsible for what their ancestors may, or may not, have done 2 and 3 generations ago.

I don't condone it nor support slavery and don't have any problems with a historically accurate teaching of it, but no I'm not ashamed. I had no part in it, therefore I have no need to feel ashamed.

But the Black population isn't racist.  Only the white population is racist.

Well that's certainly not true, there are many racist black Americans who harbor hate towards whites due to the treatment they and their ancestors have received for generations.

Therefore, CRT is only about the white population.

The systemic racism found in our laws and society were put there by the white populations who have been running things for centuries, so of course when CRT examines the racial inequities.

And white Democrats really do receive preferential treatment in all aspects of society.

White Democrats and white Republicans receive the same preferential treatment in society but both receive grief for their actions if they are active bigots or pushing bigoted ideologies that discriminate against other marginalized segments of society like the lgtbq community or women wanting equal pay for equal work.

Democrat privilege is quite real.

If you believe that then go ahead, present some evidence, do a study and call it CPT (critical party theory). I think the findings would be hilariously enlightening as you struggle to prove your ridiculous opinion.

You have no clue what will be said NOR how the individual child may interpret what he/she is being told. If a child is already borderline depressed they could take it to heart and if you don't think there will be some fighting among groups for their interpretation, you may be a bit naive.

Teach them the facts within the context of the time period and let them form their own opinions.

Demonizing an entire race is teaching children of all races that it is acceptable.

As old as time itself and no law affected that.

Aborting the unborn because they are simply parasites.

Make up your mind. Either people are having those out-of-wedlock pregnancies to fruition or they are getting them aborted so that you don't have to support them. btw, the only difference between now and the good old days is that women are not dying to get abortions.

Passing laws in the 60s that made it very acceptable to not have 2 parent homes, utterly destroying the black family.

Perrie, I understand you "claim" to be an independent, but your posts definitely show far left. Never have we observed you defend anything conservative. Quite the contrary.

Take a good, hard look at the Great Society programs of the 60s. The claimed democratic intent was to eliminate poverty, but the exact opposite happened. Welfare programs were designed to take the male out of the family. Women were told they can receive government assistance and housing, but to do so, there cannot be a male living with them.

That is why today you have government run housing with mostly single mothers. Many black children look at their grand mothers as their mothers, as their real mothers decided on a life of drugs or prostitution. Many Black fathers are inmates in your local prison .

Take a good look at most black families. Most do not have males involved. Drugs are rampant in the black communities. There are white families the same, but to compare, over 70 percent of black mothers are single parent, when white mothers are about 30. Blacks are 13 percent of the population, whites are about 65 percent.

All this is thanks to democratic policies implemented to purposely tear apart the black family, in hopes that those policies will one day eradicate them.

Perrie, I understand you "claim" to be an independent, but your posts definitely show far left. Never have we observed you defend anything conservative. Quite the contrary.

Let me spell this out for you. You seem to only focus on my liberal posts and not my conservative ones like me not disliking "The Squad", which is par for the course when it comes to being an independent. So it suits you now to label me a liberal, since I am disagreeing with you. Here is the thing, this is a discussion, not a labeling game, and I enjoy the debate rather than that. How about you?

Anyway, I will continue.

Let's talk about those social nets. Our last census shows clearly that " Poverty in single-mother households sank to its lowest rate … ever. What’s more, the decline took place entirely among black and Hispanic single-mother families.....

income for households headed by women with “no spouse present” increased by a robust 5.8%. The poverty rates for female-householder black families dropped 2.7 percentage points, while the rate for Hispanic families plunged 4 percentage points, to 31.1%, in 2018.

For blacks in female-householder families, the proportion with family incomes less than $25,000 decreased by 4.1 percentage points, while for Hispanics in female-householder families, the proportion dropped by 3 points.

Many black children look at their grand mothers as their mothers, as their real mothers decided on a life of drugs or prostitution. Many Black fathers are inmates in your local prison

Holy stereotype. We have had the largest increase in a black middle class that somehow you seem to totally ignore. Also ignored is that black poverty is at an all-time low.

1606241071371.jpg

Out of wedlock children have increased across the board. It has been attributed not to any one social program, but rather that it has lost the stigma of being a single mother.

Since 1969, however, shotgun marriage has gradually disappeared (see table 1). For whites, in particular, the shotgun marriage rate began its decline at almost the same time as the reproductive technology shock. And the disappearance of shotgun marriages has contributed heavily to the rise in the out-of-wedlock birth rate for both white and black women. In fact, about 75 percent of the increase in the white out-of-wedlock first-birth rate, and about 60 percent of the black increase, between 1965 and 1990 is directly attributable to the decline in shotgun marriages. If the shotgun marriage rate had remained steady from 1965 to 1990, white out-of-wedlock births would have risen only 25 percent as much as they have. Black out-of-wedlock births would have increased only 40 percent as much.
All this is thanks to democratic policies implemented to purposely tear apart the black family, in hopes that those policies will one day eradicate them.

That makes no sense. The policies whether you approve of them or not would affect all races, and many times I have read you talk about the Dems needing the black vote. Why would they try to destroy those they need?

To be clear, Evil,' this is what Ender wrote: "I am ashamed our country condoned it for so long."

Because the oppression and mistreatment and abuses continue right now. It is no mistake that red-states want to hide the history of this countries "sins" from their chidren, due to the issue that their children might 'revolt' on them similar to the hippy movement of the 60's. And yet, the very actions they make politically reveal these conservatives, yes I said conservatives - because that is what they were in the past politically (democrat-conservatives) and in the present (republican-conservatives).

Some conservatives want us to focus on the democrats and republicans of old, where the democrat 'housed' the problem. What they want you to not see hiding in plain sight: in both eras past/present, is what the people stirring up SHIT for minorities and women had in common:

CONSERVATIVE IDEOLOGY!

There have always been White citizens in the colonies and in the states (and in our historic federal system) who have supported minorities and women - else we would have failed long ago.Such boys and girls - men and women (liberals all) are to be praised and saluted:

Nearly all welfare program initiated by democrats have been 'watered down' by conservatives in either parties! It is conservatives who wanted black males out of the house and since it is late night I will jump ahead and point out CURRENTLY we can see conservatives jacking liberals' progress and voting success story out from under them AGAIN by 'watering down' voting laws in red-states (because they can)!

And @3.2.70 is full of bull patty! And bugsy, no matter who or what portrays itself as a conservative- it is a 'crying shame' to progress and is always pointing backward. Hell, it was conservatives who did not want presidents to bring the outhouse inside the house or build electric lights in houses in the early 1900's.

Moreover, conservatives kind of liked giving black folks projects to live in, because that way some Whites thought the 'blacks' were segregated, contained, and the controlled of the blacks ability to procreate in large numbers worked out better. In similar manner as when they gave us the 'surplus' government rations and hand outs while some Whites took good salaries and high wages and quality food and homes for themselves. Being sure to keep wages low for workers, and beneath the wage floor for Blacks!

These conservatives do not treat people of color (or women for that matter) as they do themselves or judge us for what we do. These conservatives are and will likely always be a thorn in the backsides of people of color! We have tried to overlook their. . . stupe for too long. But as you can see, ignoring them or smiling them on won't make them get out of the way. I was born (like you and other women) into this world listening to protest songs and shouts and now I am older and all I can remember is a life chock full of highs and lows mainly brought on by something negative or stupid that some 'prissy-assed' conservatives (now Trumpism "edition") thought was "good for minorities" and women too.

They simply won't let us breathe apart from their meddlesomeness!!! Every damn election cycle - it's conservative who are the saddest, most delusional, and malcontent members of the citizenry!

So no, we could have been a nation of 'colorblind' people looking out for all the colors in our humanity; but that wouldn't be Conservative—would it? They started out on the 'wrong' foot and as the conservative thing to do is to STAY ON THE WRONG FOOT!

Well that's certainly not true, there are many racist black Americans who harbor hate towards whites due to the treatment they and their ancestors have received for generations.

White people cannot be victims of discrimination.  Civil rights is not for the white population.  WASPs can only be oppressors and perpetrators.

We're witnessing exquisitely targeted civil rights legislation crafted for specific groups of people.  Civil rights is being altered to become a separate but equal set of laws tailored for specific groups of people.  Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians are only the most notable groups receiving specific attention in narrow civil rights legislation.

The systemic racism found in our laws and society were put there by the white populations who have been running things for centuries, so of course when CRT examines the racial inequities.

Yes, CRT is only about the white population.  CRT does not include any presentation of efforts by the white population to address those inequities.  The white population has fought with itself over civil rights from the beginning.

CRT is about 'whiteness', victimhood, and grievance; not about attitudes, beliefs, and schools of thought concerning civil rights.

White Democrats and white Republicans receive the same preferential treatment in society but both receive grief for their actions if they are active bigots or pushing bigoted ideologies that discriminate against other marginalized segments of society like the lgtbq community or women wanting equal pay for equal work.

No, they don't.  Maxine Waters doesn't receive the same treatment as does Louie Gohmert.  You'll point out that Maxine Waters is not white.  But that's kinda the point, isn't it?

CRT treats the white population differently, too.  And for the same reasons.

If you believe that then go ahead, present some evidence, do a study and call it CPT (critical party theory). I think the findings would be hilariously enlightening as you struggle to prove your ridiculous opinion.

Even the ACLU is abandoning its non-partisan defense of free speech.  The ACLU is giving preferential treatment to Democratic political causes.

Isn't teaching white kids to be ashamed a perfect example of systemic racism?

What is being taught is a highly selective and distorted version of the history of the white population.  The factoids may be true but history is much more than a carefully selected set of factoids.

That highly selective set of factoids also ignores how the white population fought with itself over civil rights.  And the involvement of people other than the white population in establishing 'system racism' is completely ignored.

There are inequities and disparities within the Black population.  And those inequities and disparities are the result of the same sort of attitudes, beliefs, and schools of thought being attributed to 'systemic racism'.

In one respect, CRT is being used as a means to unify the Black population against a common enemy.  The legacy of slavery is declining in the Black population as that population becomes more diverse.  Immigration (both legal and illegal) is affecting the Black population, too.

One Black man's, or several, opinion is an anecdote.  Cute. Quaint. But signifying nothing. Instead of posting (as a stall tactic) memes, why not try to unblock the path of progress by getting out of the way?! Our nation is suffering great swings of politics, because some conservatives won't grow, won't develop, and won't get the "H" out of the way so minorities can prosper more as their white counterparts do!

That sounds rather like bullshit from a victim perspective. Just how in the hell do you propose getting that done? Progress has been made. Not every person of color is prospering on an even keel with their "white counterparts" but there are those who EXCEED what their "white counterparts" are experiencing. It isn't going to be race wide as some seem to think is the only way and it sure as hell isn't going to be accomplished with giveaways and making the playing field more level by picking winners and losers.

Well, you know, Just Jim NC TttH, you should ask Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell in the Senate and Kevin McCarthy in the House about the picking of winners and losers, because they are doing some dirty maneuvers to ignore good order and dismiss Rule of Law. Right now, in Congress, some conservatives are engaging in tom-foolery so much so that a guilty conservative can't get processed for 'breaking and entering' the Capital building, lying to Congress, or lying to the Courts!

Call it whatever you wish to label it. Some conservatives appear to be good with 'branding' things and chatting it up afterwards too!

Minorities bring a lot to the table in this country. That's why the founding fathers wanted immigrants here in the first place: To bring their talents, skills, knowledge, education, and finally 'world' cultures. Funny thing happens though: There are people who sit in the 'gate' and bitch and moan and moan and bitch about "the good old days" when "they" were the majority and "they" were solely in charge. And "they" are not willing to share with our growing nation the wealth, power, and influence of the country - as they store up the nation's receipts in ever-increasing storehouses.

You do know what Jesus had to say about those who in his time 'ride' around in purple robes (indicating power, influence, and wealth) while the poor only have the lowly dogs to lick their sores? (Just thought I would drop that into your spirit-that is, assuming you have read it at least once in your life.) Jesus alluded to these wealthy people as being selfish (Rush Limbaugh (deceased.), Mitch McConnell (upwards of 25 million in personal and family wealth) as ultimately dying and not being able to take a damn dime into "H" with them!

Amy McGrath @AmyMcGrathKY
Now that Sen. McConnell's already-super-wealthy family got its taxpayer-funded financial relief, how about making sure that regular (i.e. not wealthy) folks get their unemployment extended and state & local gov'ts get some help so that they aren't forced to lay off vital workers?
July 6, 2020
And one former and current White privileged male wants to sit in judgement of the arduous existences of ordinary rank and file workers who can't get above $7.50 minimum wage?! It's the poor fault (somehow) that rich white men have storehouses of cash and dole out "giveaways" and "trinkets" as sufficient and decent wages?
I think not!
Lastly, don't you dare criticize the poor for surviving in this shitty, f-ed up society some conservatives keep broken for them! Just don't try it!

That's full of bull patty. Mitch McConnell says what he thinks of Donald Trump right after he voted to let him off the hook in his SECOND IMPEACHMENT:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Remarks Following Senate Impeachment Vote

And now Mitch feigns Donald Trump is "good for the conservative party." And you want to talk to me about "both parties?"

It is some conservatives and Mitch McConnell who:

  1. Are breaking the senate!
  2. Are not keeping faith with the Rule of Law!
  3. Are not keeping faith with so-called, "blue states" - while turning 'flips' for Kentucky and other red states!
  4. Are not honoring their basic word!
  5. Are out right lying to Congress, lying to the people of our country, and approve of disinformation thoroughly soaking the country!

So do not write to me, "You know exactly what the Dems think of people of color" because of course I certainly do!  Got the evidence in hand too!

Democrats sit on the daises with blacks, attend to the needs, hear with their hearts what people of color think and dream, and cause and are not offended when people of color make history as President Black Male and Vice-President Black Woman of Color!

What do some conservatives do? Oh hey, they ask liberals, progressives, AND WOMEN to 'become". . . conservative. (Where is the prize in doing that?)

And just how in the hell did/does that help the people of color? Ms. Harris won by proxy because she was chosen by Mr. Biden for VP. She did squat in the primaries and had to drop out in her own bid for PotUS. I doubt she swayed many voters and that election was more of a dump Trump than a "we finally have a dream team".

Did Barack Obama serve two presidential terms?

Mr. Obama was a silver tongued newby novelty that many wanted to prove they weren't racist (he was half white you may recall and the only thing black about him was his skin) and ran against one John McCain (may he rest in peace) who errantly chose a ditz for his VP. And McCain wasn't that popular. For his reelection, Mr. Obama ran against one Mitt Romney who was (much like Mr. Trump later) vilified in the press and lost a lot of ground with the advent of hurricane Sandy and the rapid response. And Mr. Obama did a fair job at the office so why not give him another shot. Good thing was, he was reined in enough that his tear down of the country could never be realized. I say tear down as when one is out to fundamentally change anything, you must first get rid of how it is/was.

Some conservatives need to hear this often: Political 'malcontents!' Partially, our nation is wading through mountains of debt, because the government is forced to throw good money after bad. The government tries to create programs that lift up the citizenry (diversity included) and some conservatives quench the spirit and try to prune or uproot those services, because said programs are helping select portions of the citizen population that do not hold a conservative worldview. Now it's even worse: Now, for them, it has to be Trump conservative points of view.

Case in point: The Affordable Care Act is only alive today and in relative health (and getting stronger), because some conservatives did not have sufficient creative impulses to come up with a different national health program (even a "shitty health plan" was too ambitious for these conservatives and their president of choice - Donald Trump combined), thus they could not kill the ACA outright! Boy o girl, did those conservatives want to though!

Political malcontents!

If she didn't have the support to BE PotUS, how can one in their right frame of mind think it's okay as VP should something happen to Mr. Biden prior to finishing his first and only term? I realize that more times than not, feelings drive those on the left. Proven fact no matter the unintended consequences of doing so. The only question left is this: Are some conservatives still malcontent about our popular national healthcare plan ACA? You know the one which some conservatives under conservative Speaker Paul Ryan and Majority Leader McConnell tried so so so so hard to screw over and hoped for all they were worth that the plan would finish 'killing itself' so they could take credit for its demise!

It appears that you do not know what White Privilege is.

I think the justice system should be reformed to where the judge and jury never get to see the defendant or even know the name of the defendant. Their race, age (after they turn 18 they should just be referred to as "adult defendant") gender, none of it should have any bearing in a trial. They should just present the evidence referring to defendant A being accused of such and such crime, weigh the evidence without knowing what race or even gender and apply the law fairly. I believe that would fix a lot of the inequities in the justice system, though minorities would still be pulled over and searched more often than whites even though white people do and sell drugs at the same or higher rates than minorities. But at least the inequities in sentence length, bail amounts, parole eligibility and more that happen once they are accused of a crime would be more fair.

Obviously white people who rarely get pulled over because they don't fit some "profile" in a police officers mind don't know that they didn't get stopped and searched for no other reason than their skin color. They don't know they weren't followed around by store security watching their every move. They don't know they might not have been approved for a loan or weren't denied as a tenant when applying for a place to live because of their skin color. They are oblivious to white privilege because they've never had to deal with discrimination so they often don't know how good they actually have it.

Or denied a job because of their race. I saw that happen in a restuarant where I used to work. A young black woman came in with a completed job application and handed it to me since I was the only one in the front. I handed it to the asst manager on duty that day and she asked me if she was black...stupid me said yes. She threw it in the trash.

So why didn't you report it to the local labor office. By not doing so, you were complacent to your boss's bigotry.

Not a good look.

What is this? A false equivalency? Nerm, our national founders were in part or whole slave-owners. As if that was not hard enough, what they did to the former slaves was nearly just as bad as working them to death for free and tossing them into shallow graves. And that is compounded upon today, because men like Mitch McConnell makes his living by taking monies, power, and influence from other wealthy Whites (and maybe sketchy wealthy people of color) and keeping the systems perpetuated that won't change the problems of the poor and minorities in our country—including the class of women.

For my part, in conclusion on this thread: If you want to know something about Mitch McConnell - you might call and ask him personally, seek out his staff, or watch current new pieces on Mitch McConnell and how and why he gets labeled, the 'grim reaper' of the Senate.

There is a huge difference between remembering history, teaching our children about what happened in the past and glorifying or honoring those who fought to keep owning other Americans as cattle. To prevent pants shitting I wouldn't be against rolls of toilet paper with the confederate flag on them, that would be a fair way to remember the confederacy without glorifying it.

Do you think those Nazi's marching in Charlottesville trying to prevent the removal of a confederate statue were simply trying to teach about the history or remembering the horror of the holocaust by flying swastika flags? Of course not, they were honoring, celebrating and glorifying the swastika and the ideology behind it that caused the murder of seven million innocent humans that they believed were somehow inferior to their Aryan race. That's what flying a swastika flag means, and flying the confederate flag isn't much different.

The parrots have taken their orders and are regurgitating the pro-CRT talking points they are spoon fed, I see. Having skimmed articles on far left websites they dutifully squawk that CRT just teaches kids that slavery existed or that racism is bad, and without CRT, kids would never hear those things!.

As others have pointed out, its a classic example of the motte and bailey fallacy.  While talking to outsiders and simple liberals who need talking points, they claim CRT is just teaching kids racism exists or other harmless pabulum.  But when the CRT experts  are talking, as John perhaps inadvertently pointed out in a different thread, to each other and not for the consumption of lay people, you see how much more grandiose the designs of CRT are.  It's a word view totally obsessed with one's race as the defining characteristic of one's existence, and every interaction one engages in is predicated on race.  It's a totalitarian philosophy obsessed with Racial identity.

No. At the academic level critical race theory is the examination of the legal institutions throughout the US and the impact race has had on said institutions and broader society generally as it relates to them. It is just one way to look at current and historical issues, but I haven’t heard anyone say it’s the only way. All it is is a different perspective to take into consideration when examining the larger whole.

The only people I have heard say the shit you spouted are those outside of academia who actually have no fucking idea what they are talking about and apparently are so wrapped up in the color of their skin that they seem to feel attacked personally when it comes to the issue of racism in America.

What is Critical Race Theory?

critical race theory (CRT) , intellectual movement and loosely organized framework of legal analysis based on the premise that race is not a natural, biologically grounded feature of physically distinct subgroups of human beings but a socially constructed (culturally invented) category that is used to oppress and exploit people of colour. Critical race theorists hold that the law and legal institutions in the United States are inherently racist insofar as they function to create and maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between whites and nonwhites, especially African Americans.

Critical race theory (CRT) was officially organized in 1989, at the first annual Workshop on Critical Race Theory, though its intellectual origins go back much farther, to the 1960s and ’70s.

CRT is whatever its opponents wish. They will "reformulate" any and all ideas, transforming them into strawmen, which they then trash.

Their strawman CRT is their "truth". Arguing is pointless, because you will never be on the same page.

We argue, because we must 'straighten' out the lies. Sure, some conservatives are lying, but the struggle continues. Truth will adorn itself around the necks of the people if it is spoken. That is the nature of truth-to be true no matter the lie.

Where a lie abides, truth abides more.

On NT, we have three groups: the libs, the fascists, and the refuse-to-take-a-position fence-sitters.

All of us, in all three groups, know each others' arguments. Repeating them is pointless.

"Repeating the same action, expecting a different result, is a sign of madness."

Arguing is futile.

The best we can do is to stay mobilized. Our democracy has only a slim chance of survival over the next decades. The Fascists must be crushed, electorally, over and over, and that would require a level of determination that I do not see in most Americans.

Just look at what Trump populists attempt to do without the levers of power in the 'fed' system.

Democrats look weak. All this 'chattin' back and forth is wearing on the minds. I am 'bout to call my Senators (yes, even old Feinstein) and blast them for letting the reporting on Manchin and Sistema become noise that is bumming people out across the country.

It's exhausting to listen to. Reminds me of the noise that came out of Obamacare, which resulted in passage of the law. . .but loss of the House.

Some conservatives are smart to attempt to discombobulate CRT, because they fear the cohesion it can bring to the burgeoning numbers of minorities banding together to create liberal and progressive political 'force.' Consequently, it follows that, since some conservatives are all for the status quo these folks do not desire to admit to that which "haunts" their politics of today. That is, some conservatives are on the wrong glide path to the future, but they can not or refuse to change.

What's left for them is bigger and speedier lies.

Donald Trump, a hard-liar, told his 30,000 lies and now his populist followers are beginning to tell theirs!

Non whites are a historically oppressed "racial" representation in the United States. Whites are not. If anything whites are defacto the oppressors.

There is no need whatsoever for anyone to be "pro-white" . Is it racist? Possibly.

We can be consistent. White People can be pro-White without being anti-Black or anti-Minorities.

Racism and oppression carries its own baggage around.

Can there be intersectionality between two or more types, kinds, and things - yes, there can be.

Still these can be separated, disentangled, knots untied, and wrinkles ironed out. (Smile.)

Being "pro—" has become political (and I can see where you are with this). That has not always been the case though. Being "pro-something" in its proper usage can be positive and uplifting.

For example, this is PRIDE month. Being pro-Homosexual does not being "anti-Conservative."  Or, vice-versa.

We (all) have to begin the long slog up the 'mountain' to put life back on its proper, . . . or a better course!

My friend (If I can call you such), pro-White simply means "with my people." In its purest form it does not traffic in seediness. In a larger sense and category it means: pro-People.

Eh?

We can leave the pejorative use of the phrase behind in the dumps of time - if others cooperate!
