US Olympic athlete Chelsea Wolfe threatened to burn flag on podium
BMX Freestyle rider Chelsea Wolfe once said her goal was to win an Olympic medal "so I can burn a US flag on the podium."

EXCLUSIVE - BMX Freestyle rider Chelsea Wolfe, who qualified as an alternate to represent the U.S. at this year's summer Olympics in Tokyo, said last year that her goal was to win an Olympic medal "so I can burn a US flag on the podium."

"My goal is to win the Olympics so I can burn a US flag on the podium. This is what they focus on during a pandemic. Hurting trans children," Wolfe wrote on Facebook on March 25, 2020, along with a link to a PinkNews story about the Trump administration's stance on transgender girls in female athletics.

Wolfe identifies as a transgender woman.

Wolfe told Fox News that the post, which has since been deleted, doesn't mean she doesn't care about her home country.

"Anyone who thinks that I don't care about the United States is sorely mistaken," Wolfe told Fox News. "One of the reasons why I work so hard to represent the United States in international competition is to show the world that this country has morals and values, that it's not all of the bad things that we're known for. I take a stand against fascism because I care about this country and I'm not going to let it fall into the hands of fascists after so many people have fought and sacrificed to prevent fascism from taking hold abroad. As a citizen who wants to be proud of my home country, I'm sure as hell not going to let it take hold here."

Journalist Ian Miles Cheong first reported on Wolfe's post. Wolfe also reportedly joked about exploding former president Donald Trump's head.

"I would never say that someone should explode the head of the president. That would be illegal," Wolfe wrote in Facebook comments according to a screenshot posted by Cheong. "But I will say 'with dynamite.' Because that's just a sentence fragment and doesn't actually mean anything. It's not necessarily related to the sentence that came before it."

Earlier this month, Wolfe posted about what it meant to qualify as an alternate for the Olympics as a transgender athlete.

"I searched for so long trying to find out if there had ever been a professional trans bmx rider to show me that who I am would be okay and unfortunately I found no one," Wolfe wrote on Instagram on June 12. "Eventually I started to meet some amazing women who helped me accept that I am a woman just like any other and that I deserve a place to exist in the world just like everyone else."

International Olympic Committee policy specifies conditions under which those who transition from male to female are eligible to compete in the female category.

Among them is that the athlete has declared that her gender identity is female and that the declaration cannot be changed, for sporting purposes, for a minimum of four years.

The athlete must also demonstrate that her total testosterone level is below a specific measurement for at least 12 months prior to her first competition.

The IOC policy also states: "the overriding sporting objective is and remains the guarantee of fair competition."

All you young female athletes should be livid with the idea of a "transgender" individual competing in Women's sports. I assume you all are. Biden's DOJ supports it btw. As long as it's condoned people like the so called "Chelsea Wolf" will be stealing Women's dreams of excelling in sports. We know this is a male competing against Women, right? So he is going to win this event and then burn American flag if the Japanese allow it.

Girls, remember - at election time!

Yes, she kicked the ass of someone old enough to be her father; not the #1 male player at the time.

Care to pit the current #1 woman's tennis player against the current #1 male tennis player in an equal match?

It can happen, but is a rarity. Even with animals the male is naturally stronger. After the 146 runnings of the Kentucky Derby only 3 fillies have won.

What does it do to a Woman's spirit?

It's hard to defend isn't it?

Depends on what animals you are talking about. In many cases that is not true at all, insects are a great example.

I looked up to see how many biological males have won girls or women's sports competitions. It is a very small number. Most of the stories are about the same three or four incidences.

(1) how many biological males have won female sports championships - Bing

The idea that large numbers of boys would change their sexual identities just to win a high school or even college track event is bordering on ridiculous.

I dont approve of trans running in girls events and I dont like it, but it may have to be tolerated in the few isolated instances in order to legally protect more important rights for everyone.

Here is Prager U taking one example and declaring it "The End Of Womens Sports"

Trans should only compete against other trans, in a league of their own. There is no logical reason for it to be tolerated.

IMO any American who intentionally, and with malice, burns an American flag should have their citizenship revoked  I'm a Canadian and I have a lot more respect for the Stars and Stripes than some Americans who IMO should be banished from the USA and never again permitted to enjoy any of its benefits.  The flag is NOT a symbol of a temporary administration, it is a symbol of a nation including its history, its geography and its total population.

I flew the Canadian flag from my cottage flagpole, and the back of my boat.  I even entered the contest to redesign the flag from the old form of British flag in the corner and Canadian Coat of Arms.  My design was similar to what we have, save that I made the side stripes blue to signify Canada's motto.

It's also a symbol of liberty and freedom. And one of those freedoms is the right to burn the flag in protest. It may not be a popular thing to do, much less accept. But a country that supposedly touts individual freedom above all else cannot deny it either.

For the life of me I cannot equate burning a nation's flag (except as legally permitted to dispose of it) as a protest of the actions (or non-action) of an administration which is by law temporary only.  You may say it's an indication of a right of freedom.  Well, so is spitting into the wind and having your sputum splatter in your eye, so go ahead and do it.  I consider it no different than burning all your forests and fields and crops and structures and everything that you value.  So as far as I'm concerned, go ahead, after all, it's your right to kick yourself in the face as well.

While I support peoples right to burn the flag in protest I find it distasteful to do it on the world stage at an event like the Olympics. There's a time and place for everything and the Olympics is not the place for flag burning. I imagine the US BMX team is pretty dominant at the Olympics so we may actually see this play out unfortunately.

It doesn't matter if an administration is temporary. It can still do things that evoke outrage in people, causing a reciprocation of outrage as demonstrated by a flag burning protest. Like I said, it not a popular act to perform. Neither will it likely gain the protestor/s any popularity points. But when people feel wronged, they probably do not care about what's popular or not anyway. As it stands, flag burning in protest is a protected, albeit unpopularly viewed, form of free speech. Ironic that the flag represents that freedom to burn it.

Sorry, but I don't see taking the wrongs of your administration out on the symbol of your nation.  Burn the images of your POTUS at the time, or his effigy - write letters to the editors, get up on a soapbox with a megaphone (realize that those are privileges that the people where I'm living DON'T have) - all you have done by burning your flag is misdirecting your dissatisfaction.  The prime manner to object is to vote for someone else.next time around.

I wouldn’t go that far. I don’t like when people burn the flag. I wish they wouldn’t do it, and I think it’s an extreme, irrational way of expressing ones self.

But citizenship is critical to defining a person’s place in the world. If you aren’t a citizen of your country, where can you go? At most, it could be punished as a crime, but I wouldn’t even do that. Free speech is that important to me.

There is a big difference between protesting and destruction of personal property. NO ONE can be convicted for purchasing their own rainbow OR American flag and burning it in protest. You linked to a guy that stole a rainbow flag from private property and burned it.

Earlier this month, Adolfo Martinez was convicted of a hate crime in Ames, Iowa for “tearing down and burning a Pride flag that was hanging at a local church.”

From what I have seen, the burning of the flag in that story would have been a crime no matter what because we’re talking about burning someone else’s property and trying to harass them. Is it a hate crime? Yeah, but I admit it’s not what we normally think of when we say “hate crime.” The point, though, is that just burning his own pride flag in a public space would not have been a crime of any kind.

“My goal is to win the Olympics so I can burn a US flag on the podium."

I’m sorry, but (as far as I am concerned) that right there disqualifies you from representing the country. Burn the flag on your own time and in your own name.

BMX rider Chelsea Wolfe last year threatened to burn an Olympic flag on the podium.

And that should disqualify you from being in the Olympics. You don’t have to like the Olympics, but if you want them to give you a stage, you shouldn’t disrespect their symbol. The Olympics puts you in a position to be noticed on the condition that you do sports.

Honestly, I thought that was the subject of the article. I didn’t see any commentary in there about whether or not this person should be allowed to compete as a woman. At issue is this person’s anger and their need to express it by burning flags - in particular (and ironically) the flags of institutions that have provided the best avenues to opportunity in their life.

Women’s freestyle bmx?  Who knew that was even a thing?  Who gives a rat’s ass?  The achievements of trans athletes will always come with a built in asterisk.  Humanity puts far too much importance on sports anyways, IMO.

We also put too much importance on flags.  I once had a flag on a pole in the front yard and it was starting to get ratty on the end.  Before I had gotten around to ordering a replacement a neighbor who I’d never met before rang the doorbell to give me a new one.  It was a passive aggressive move by a cunty Karen.  The bag on this cheap ass dollar store flag said it was made in China.  I threw it in the trash and ordered a real one.
