Dick Farrel, a right-wing radio host who called COVID-19 a “scamdemic” and advised his followers not to get the vaccine, has died due to complications from the coronavirus.

The controversial broadcaster, who was based in West Palm Beach, Florida, regularly campaigned against vaccination and criticised Dr. Anthony Fauci, calling the immunologist a “power tripping lying freak.” But Farrel’s close friends say that upon being hospitalised with the virus, he quickly changed his mind regarding vaccination.

Prior to falling ill, however, the former Newsmax anchor wrote, “Vaccine Bogus Bull Shid!, [sic]The openly ardent Trump supporter also doubted the reality of a Delta variant, implying “FOOT-chee” (his nickname for Fauci) conceptualised it when Americans weren’t “falling for” the subsequent coronavirus waves. “So, presto! Delta Variant,” he said.

No tears shed here.

Too little, too late?

Farrel’s life partner, Kit Farley, also took to Facebook to mourn their loss. “He fought like a tiger. Please don’t put off getting attention for this illness. Yes, for some it has minimal effects, but others it is deadly.”

“We will always love Dick Farrel, always appreciate his spirit, and miss him greatly. He was known as the other Rush Limbaugh. With a heavy heart, I can only say this was so unexpected. He will be missed.”

The other Rush Limbaugh?

That does appear to be an excellent comparison! jrSmiley_4_smiley_image.png

And there's an interesting irony here. The vast majority of people who are stupid enough tobelieve the MAGA bullshit and don't get the vaccine are are Trump supporters.

So all this extremist MAGA anti-vax bullshit has the effect of....killing off mostly... strong Trump supporters!

How stupid are these MAGA morons???

You believe black people and other minorities are mostly Republicans?

It's amazing how ignorant so many [deleted] are about who is being vaccinated and why not. [Deleted]

Please post a link to support your claim. The studies I read refute that.

BTW, having a PHD doesn't preclude one from being stupid.

I believe that claim comes from a MedRXiv study on changes in vaccine hesitancy from Jan-May 2021 written up recently at Web MD

While stereotypes about those with higher education levels or certain ethic groups more likely to get the vaccine abound, the new research did not always fit those notions. During the 5-month study period, those with a high school education showed the most movement toward vaccination and away from their previous hesitancy. The eye-opener: By May, the group with PhDs were more hesitant than those with lower educational levels .

Clearly the study is talking about the hesitancy of those that are not yet vaccinated, not which are the least vaccinated group. Certainly some have questioned these findings as well suggesting that other anti-vax respondents may have answered yes to whether they held PhDs just to skew the numbers.  Sounds kinda like " the riots last summer were mostly caused by right wing extremists ", or " the storming of the capitol on Jan 6 was orchestrated by Antifa ". Always interesting to see how the facts and the data are spun.

Fairly good recent vaccine tracker HERE , although does not specifically break down by those with PhD vs. other levels of education.  But certainly this one indicates that those with college education or higher are more likely to be vaccinated, and less likely to be hesitant about it.

BTW, having a PHD doesn't preclude one from being stupid.

I wouldn't say that folks with a PhD are stupid about anything, but I've certainly known some who lack common sense, or the ability to refrain from over-complicating a sunset.

So clearly, that link doesn't support his assertion.

Here's a study that refutes it:

Overall, at the time of the survey, 76% of U.S. adults with at least a bachelor’s degree had been vaccinated or planned to get vaccinated, compared to just over half of adults (53%) with less education (Figure 1).

A point I thought I made clear.  Although when discussing hesitancy among the still unvaccinated by education level it is an interesting point, but should not be conflated with percentages of those already vaccinated by education level.  Such conflation happens a lot around here, wouldn't you agree?

Who's "we"?  I saw Dulay ask for proof and I saw you make a mockery of it.  I had seen Sean's claim come up before, and the link that was provided as proof at that time was the one I indicated in 5.1.6.  Since Sean had not replied yet, I thought it might be a good time to present what I had seen just recently which doesn't support the claim at all.  Is it ok with you if I join the conversation from time to time Tessy, or is that a privilege only afforded you?

By the way, the argument I made was in support of your and Dulay's position.... in case you didn't notice or it makes any difference.

You are the one that inserted 'hesitency' into the discussion.

Why yes, members do so here all the time, though your comment is the only one that comes close to doing so. Sean hasn't piped in to embrace your link as the source of his misinformation so it's unclear if he was conflating the two in order to bolster his agenda.

You are the one that inserted 'hesitency' into the discussion.

Indeed, to illustrate how it is often conflated with fully vaccinated percentage levels of certain demographics.  Just as an objection to certain mandates are conflated with "telling their constituents not to get vaccinated".

Why yes, members do so here all the time, though your comment is the only one that comes close to doing so.

If by "close to doing so" you mean pointing out the tactic honestly no matter who might be doing it, then ya got me, nice work!

Sean hasn't piped in to embrace your link as the source of his misinformation so it's unclear if he was conflating the two in order to bolster his agenda.

Indeed, although my intent was not to speak for him, but to illustrate the misuse of a report that someone else making the same claim recently used to bolster that claim.  I also agreed with you and provided an additional link that bolsters your claim. Will that be acceptable?

No need to insert your own scenario, my comment was plain enough and stands on it's own merits.

Indeed, although my intent was not to speak for him, but to illustrate the misuse of a report that someone else making the same claim recently used to bolster that claim.

Unless and until Sean replies and embraces your link, you're making unfounded assumptions.

I haven't made a 'claim'. I asked for Sean to support his assertion and posted a link that refutes it.

Nope.  I made absolutely no assumptions about what Sean would present to back his claim, and frankly don't much care how he might reply.  I only provided information I saw someone else present recently in support of the same claim he was making.  Couldn't have been clearer about that 3 times now.

I haven't made a 'claim'. I asked for Sean to support his assertion and posted a link that refutes it.

Fine.  I also agreed with you and provided an additional link that bolsters your refutation. Better?  Or shall we continue arguing about the fact that we agree with each other on the unsupported claim that Sean made?

I don't agree with your claim either.

Such a shame that some people so fervently believe unsubstantiated nonsense.   This poor guy lost his life because he was of a mindset to accept as true that which trusted others in his conformist group merely claim as truth in spite of overwhelming evidence and statistics to the contrary.   (And, I hold, in defiance of common sense.)

I wonder how many other people he infected?

I wonder how many other people didn’t get vaccinated because he talked them out of it? How many people did they infect?

How many people died needlessly because of this toxic dumbshit? How many survived with permanent damage?

Years ago back in Ohio I remember there was this host of a right wing radio show who would regularly rage against seat belt laws.  He would refuse to wear them, and get tickets for it that he would gladly show up in court and argue over and pay the fines, then use the issue as fodder for his show railing against the loss of our individual freedoms.  Reminds me of this douche.
