He must have concluded that Tampa Bay would not be a serious contender next year.

I think his wife had more of an influence on his retiring  than any teams chances of winning ....she has been after him to retire for a couple years now .

Even though I disliked his politics, he was, for the most part, a very inspiring and controlled athlete. Almost pulled off another Championship this year. He was inspiring to watch and will be missed by many, (and not missed by many also :) )

An amazing athlete.  A horrible human being.

I bet on a QBs ability to cover spreads, not on what type of person they are. At QB Brady is the G.O.A.T.

Not anymore.  He's retired now and has to rely only on his ability to be human.

I dont think any quarterback can be the greatest football player of all time, but he was the best QB in terms of winning big games. He can spend the rest of his life basking in glory now.

i think the title of GOAT naturally changes with each generation and era , someone thats older that saw some of the greats of the era they grew up in will always say a certain person was the greatest .

and that leaves the imagination , imagine getting all the greats and having them play each other when they were all in their prime , it cant happen , but one can always dream .

isnt that why they are called dream teams ?

I think Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow are the best young QB's playing now, but I doubt any of them will approach the records Brady set, Brady is by far the G.O.A.T. at QB. and always will be IMO

and there is always dumb crap luck , all it would have taken or will take to end any quarterbacks career is one accident or injury  and i think they, the good ones at least , go into each season knowing that .

Brady had some talent , but he also had a lot of luck , , be it injuries or those that were on his team , he didnt get there alone , the teams he played on from season to season had a lot to do with where he ended up.

Players with "some talent" don't put up the numbers Brady did over a career. All players have some talent, if they didn't, they wouldn't have made it to the NFL.

Now you may have taken the statement of "some talent " negatively , not the way it was meant though ,

he was well versed in the plays , as well as the NFL rules , had the talent to read the field as it pertained to every play he ran AND adjust on the fly .

factor in he is something of a fitness and nutritional nutter ,  to keep himself in top form and ready to play at ANY  given time in any season  now factor in the teams he had to work with that also contributed to those numbers , he couldnt do everything all himself , others had to be doing their jobs as well, what i meant was he had the talent , or the skill to bring all those things together and present the best game that could have been presented when he played .

and that is how i would surmise his stats and numbers .

He should have retired after the patriots.

I think he knew he better call it quits or be accused of being a Farve...

I never cared for him. A baby when things don't go his way.

The end of the Eagles game after being sacked and fumbling the ball away on an apparent game winning drive.

Just this time. Daddy won five times. They never won before. Their whole life, they never won a Super Bowl. You have to let someone else win sometimes...We have to share. Sharing is caring.

Not so fast!  Sounds like he might not be retiring after all.

The quarterback has reportedly not told coach Bruce Arians of his retirement plans, Arians telling  Sports Illustrated 's Albert Breer  via text message: “No, he hasn't.”

Even though I never followed American football (even didn't follow Canadian football much either) if I were asked to name the most famous current football player in the USA, it would have been Tom Brady.  Sports do have their shining stars.  If you were to ask me who were the best hockey players during my time, I would say Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky.  As for baseball, my hero will always be Joe Carter - and only because of one hit he made.  I'm not a basketball fan.  To me, that game is only worth watching during the last couple minutes of play with a tied or almost tied score.  However, I'm really looking forward to the Winter Olympics, because being a Canadian I've done some of those sports myself, and it will enjoy great coverage on TV here.

Tom Brady Sr. says his son hasn’t decided whether or not to retire yet.

After ESPN’s report that Brady would be leaving football after 22 seasons, Brady Sr. told KRON in San Francisco that report was premature, insisting that it wasn’t true calling the news “total’ conjecture.

“Tommy has not made a final decision one way or the other and anybody else that says that he has is absolutely wrong,” Brady Sr. told Giardi.

My guess is Tom Sr knows Junior is retiring but is waiting for Tom Jr to make the announcement himself.

As a long time football gambler, I have one rule, if you can't bring yourself to bet on Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes don't bet the game at all.  Sunday, I have the Bengals covering the +7 spread against the Chiefs but with Mahomes at QB I'm not betting the game unless the spread goes up to the Bengals + 7.5 or more.

Just pissed that someone else announced it before he was ready.

Like most other people who retire, the reality of the first few months

apparently wasn't agreeable

and who can really pass up getting paid $25 million to play a game he's very good at?

It will make every time he gets sacked next year that much more enjoyable.

I don't like a lot of celebrities.

When people can predict that you will "un -retire" and be correct, that is not a good look. It speaks of self-absorbtion and attention seeking. .

Nice going!

There are sometimes reasons why fans don't like certain great athletes. I once knew someone who was a huge fan of basketball. He knew everything about the NBA and college hoops. The funny thing was he hated Larry Bird and to a lesser degree the Boston Celtics.

I am leaving one detail about him out.

That I'll let the casual observer figure out.

Honestly, he signed a 25 million dollar contract for 1 year?

$20 million guaranteed.....

I hope he has a season ending injury in training camp

just to teach the NFL that these contracts are egregious and offensive to the average American.

Period.

That's not utterly fucking psychotic or anything.

Why do you care how much they make?  It's not your money.

And since when do you speak for "the average American"?

I promise you the average American doesn't wish debilitating injury on another person simply because they've worked their ass off to become really good at something that other people want to watch them do.

Well if we're wishing a season ending injury on Brady for $25m, what are we doing for Cousins?  Are we hoping he gets hit by a bus?  Plane crash?  Testicular cancer?

You have obviously never been to an NFL game in Philly, Cleveland or Oakland,

SF Candlestick Park

or the old Dallas stadium.

AT&T fans of this day and age are pretty mellow considering they can drop a

thousand dollars per home game for 2 seats, parking and food.

Keep in mind that there are others "here" that hate Bezos, Musk, Gates and

others for less than making $1,000,075.  per hour on any given Sunday.
