From deflection to gaslighting
“Are you guys just going to start blaming Putin for everything until the midterms?”.....Fox White House Reporter Peter Doocy

The Biden administration's press conferences have recently become more contentious. They were once reminiscent of the love affairs the Washington press corps used to have with president Obama, but thanks largely to Fox News and a year that will surely go down as the worst of any US president, we are finally getting fair questions of the administration. The answers used to be vague and dismissive. The always flippant Jen Psaki has now begun to openly lie. Here is a portion of Thursday's Press Conference:

doocy-psaki.jpg

MR. DOOCY: We just heard you say again, that you think inflation is going to be temporary. We’ve heard you say that it was going to be temporary since last spring. So how long do you guys think temporary is?

MS. PSAKI: Well, again, Peter, I think what we do is we rely on the assessments of the Federal Reserve and of outside economic analysts who give an assessment of how long it will last. The expectations and their assessment at this point continues to be that it will moderate by the end of the year. There’s also no question that when a foreign dictator invades a foreign country and when that foreign dictator is the head of a country that is the third largest supplier of oil in the world, that that is going to have an effect. And it is.

MR. DOOCY: And so to that point, inflation goes up today. The president’s statement blames the “Putin price hike.” Are you guys just going to start blaming Putin for everything until the midterms?

MS. PSAKI: Well, we’ve seen the price of gas go up at least 75 cents since President Putin lined up troops on the border of Ukraine.

MR. DOOCY: And last month, the statement didn’t mention the Putin price hike. It mentioned inflation because of the pandemic. Why is that?

MS. PSAKI: Well, Peter, last year’s last two years, there was a global pandemic. Everyone who’s a global economist have all agreed that that has been the biggest contributor to date of inflation because of the impact on the supply chain. Obviously, global events impact the economy, the global economy, as well as global inflation. And the price hikes as a result, that have escalated over the course of time, of President Putin’s further invasion of the impact on the global markets are, of course, having an impact.

The Week:

The war in Ukraine continues to rage with all the deficiencies of the Russian army exposed. Putin has begun to move on Kyiv. A Russian tank column is repelled and another top commander killed in a devastating ambush as Moscow's forces move within a few miles of capital outskirts amid fears Mariupol bombings are a sign of what is to come. Poland wanted to help with warplanes, but didn't want to do it directly. It chose to go through the US. The US under Biden is afraid to provoke Putin so Ukraine will not get the planes. Millions of Ukrainians have left their country as Vladimir Putin continues the slaughter of people who look just like him.

Sen. Joe Manchin  on Thursday called on president Biden to invoke the Defense Production Act (DPA) if necessary to complete a U.S. natural gas pipeline following the ban on oil imports from Russia. At a Thursday hearing of the Senate Energy Committee, which he chairs, Manchin called the 303-mile Mountain Valley Pipeline “the quickest thing that we can get, it’s more energy into the market that’s going to be needed."

T he Senate on Thursday evening passed a $1.5 trillion spending bill with $13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine, sending the measure to the White House with bipartisan support. President Joe Biden is expected to sign the Omnibus Appropriations bill after the Senate passed it 68-31. Republicans and Democrats agreed to $730 billion in discretionary spending (6.7% increase over last year) and $782 billion for defense (5.6% increase).

Major League Baseball team owners and the players’ union agreed to a new labor contract Thursday, ending a lockout that lasted more than three months in time to restore a full season in 2022.  Opening day is now set for April 7, one week later than initially planned.

Jussie Smollett was sentenced to 5 months in jail for staging a fake hate crime after Kim Fox and Michelle Obama tried to spare him. Was the sentence just?
Is it "racist" to list it as a national news story?

Inflation has now reached 7.8% under Joe Biden. Biden’s Energy Secretary in May: “If you drive an electric car, this would not be affecting you”

Massachusetts health department admits 'significant overcount' of COVID-19 deaths — and the number could still be much too high! Not a surprise. So when should tax payers expect a refund since our government paid hospitals across the country for each covid death?!

What have we learned?

First and foremost we learned that Vladimir Putin underestimated the people of the Ukraine and their army why overestimating his own army. One thing he was dead on right about was Joe Biden. Biden is every bit the coward Putin thought he was. In the old nuclear deterrence equation, which says both sides fear one another equally, it's Biden who fears the most and Putin knows it. The kindest thing one can say about Biden is that he is too old to govern.

We also see as usual the left being accommodated.

Now it's all about Putin. The war that began weeks ago is responsible for inflation and rising crime and rising gas prices and an open border.  How stupid can the people be?

Just one important note. There is another new rule swirling around. If anyone says "answer my question" they will be flagged and ticketed.

Vic,

You shouldn't  just post:

Answer my question from yesterday

That is a demand. No one is obligated to answer a question.

You can say:

btw... you forgot to answer my question

Could you please answer my question?

Do you not have an answer to my question?

There is a difference.

That being said, I will reverse my decision and allow that, if it is said only once. Hounding for a comment will not be accepted.

Ms Paski is doing what all good press secretaries do, they "spin"  (read that as lie) for what is coming out of the White House.  It's been a long pattern of blaming the other guy, quite frequently the previous administration.  As far as the White House taking credit for anything good that happens  (like when gas prices actually went down by about 12 cents a gallon early last year) to blaming others when anything bad happens.  But the people who are doing the spin today are not very good at watching history.  Gas price's and inflation have been going up for the past how many months yet they want to blame this all on a 2 week old war.  There is a "difference of opinion" between the press secretaries office and the Treasury Secretary on how long this high inflation is going to be with us.  Older clips are coming out where various "leaders" in the White House have shown how they want to push a Green Energy agenda.  Progressive extremists are doubling down on a push for green energy now.

We spent almost the entirety of the last administration hearing about all the lies and misleading statements coming from the White House.  Why do we not hear anything about it now?

All I can really say is that the next 8 months are going to be hell with the partisan bullshit and sniping and when the dust clears on November 9th where will we stand.

Well to be fair the Trump administration fired off a lot of EO's early on to remove everything that Obama did.  And  Biden did run on being anti-Trump so it makes sense that his first acts would be to remove every EO that Trump had set up.

Problem with that IMO is that it was a blanket removal and not everything that Trump did was wrong (Yeah,  I know there are various people on this site who will immediately disagree with me on this)  just like not every EO that Obama had enacted was wrong.

If you need more help with homework, I'll charge next time.

Yet another example of pointless partisan theatrics.

15 Rs and 2 Ds voted against the Russian oil ban.   An extremely simple, rational assessment would suggest that this is not something that should be presented as a D failing.    After all 7.5 times as many Rs votes against it as Ds.

Ultimately this is a non issue since 414 voted for the ban and thus this is clearly a very strong bipartisan vote.   Given modern politics this is an extraordinary level of solidarity.

Here the clear 'us vs. them' is the USA vs. Russia;  it is clearly NOT R vs. D.   This is a terrible scenario to try to play partisan games and suggest, by only posting a picture of a D, that the D party led the charge against the ban.

Dulay was spot on (and made crystal clear @7.1.4) yet still the partisan nuh'uh crap ensues.

Dulay @7.1.4 - If the VAST MAJORITY were Republicans, why ONLY post Omar's photo?

Sen. Joe Manchin  on Thursday called on president Biden to invoke the Defense Production Act (DPA) if necessary to complete a U.S. natural gas pipeline following the ban on oil imports from Russia.

Two reasons this won't happen.

  1. It will help the country.
  2. Manchin called for it.
First and foremost we learned that Vladimir Putin underestimated the people of the Ukraine and their army why overestimating his own army. One thing he was dead on right about was Joe Biden. Biden is every bit the coward Putin thought he was

Putin seriously underestimated his own force.  It's one thing to get mounted and dismounted infantry to the battle field.  Without the needed logistics they are dead in the water.  Even their 40 mile logistics convoy had to stop for lack of fuel.  As a vet who, in the early part of my career trained to fight the Russian, this is not only funny but reassuring that Russia really isn't the threat that we thought they were.

I don't know if you heard Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines yesterday, but she listed the shortcomings of the Russian military. It is kind of a shocker.

Basically she said the Russians don't understand the concept of combined arms. You know where the SAM units and the ground support aircraft protect the tank convoys and the fighter aircraft support the ground support aircraft. Evidently they don't get it.

That seems about accurate from what we've seen.  They also don't understand the concept of logistics to support it all.

What a moronic video.

The president of Poland was laughing as well, not at the question, but at the confusion between him and Harris as to who would answer first. Which is also why she was laughing.

The only thing moronic is what some Republicans and a lot of independents voted for.

The polls show they learned their lesson. Now they have to endure all this for another 3 years.

I watched the video y'all are whining about. She does have kind of a nervous, giggling laugh, but it wasnt out of place. The president of Poland was laughing too, because they both started to speak at once.

Big deal.

It certainly was. You say you watched the video. Did you hear President Duda take Harris to task over Blinken's comments?

Here:

“Let me say something more.  We accept that [Ukraine] have the right to demand this assistance from the international community.  They can demand this support from NATO.  We are providing them humanitarian assistance and material assistance the best we can.  We are trying to do our best.

Some expectations were addressed in a very strong and unequivocal way, also towards us — towards Poland.  However, we are members of the North Atlantic Alliance.  And as far as security-related issues are concerned, we have to look at these not only through our own lens — through the prism of the security of Poland — but we also have to adopt the perspective of the security of NATO as a whole.

So, in a nutshell, we have to be a responsible member of the North Atlantic Alliance.  That is why there were requests addressed to us.  Those requests were addressed to us by the Ukrainian side and also, to a certain extent, by the media

What was he referring to?

Answer:  U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken saying Poland has a “green light” to send fighter jets to Ukraine – without ever discussing the issue with Ukraine in advance.

it's high time for a delegation of republican congressional leaders to meet in poland, board an aircraft, do an inspection flyover of ukraine, and then proceed directly to moscow to negotiate an end to the conflict. I'm sure the ukraine military will supply them a transport aircraft...

Astronaut Mark Vande Hei, who holds the ongoing record for longest space flight, is set to end his 355 days in space in just three weeks. The plan is for him to land in Kazakhstan with two Russian cosmonauts on a Russian spacecraft. But unprecedented sanctions against Russia could put Vande Hei's return on hold. After Russia invaded Ukraine nearly two weeks ago, President Joe Biden announced new sanctions, including cutting more than half of Russia's high-tech imports.  The Russians are going to leave him up there. I guess the sanctions aren't working or as Vladimir Putin would say "Let's go Brandon!"

Although this is just nit-picking partisan crap, I have never been a fan of Harris.   I find her to be childish and opportunistic and not suitable for serious offices like Senator and V.P.

But, again, some people are going to take anything she or Biden does and spin and inflate for partisan reasons.

While I can somewhat agree when it comes to Harris, I'd much rather have a "childish and opportunistic" Vice President than President so Republicans complaining about Harris while continuing to support the very definition of "childish and opportunistic" in their tangerine tub of lard is the very pinnacle of hypocrisy.

Trump spoke with a big stick when Russia was in Syria if I recall:

"Mike Pompeo, the CIA director nominated to be secretary of state, told lawmakers Thursday that the U.S. killed up to 200 Russians in airstrikes conducted against forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in February.

Oh, but that's right, you are more concerned with slogans and words than deeds.
