Countdown to Halloween!
It's that time of year again, folks! The night where little people, dressed as all manner of ghouls and goblins, superheroes and cartoon characters, bang on our door and scream, "Trick or Treat!"
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! Always has been! No one died on it. There isn't a whole lot of ritual about it, in my church anyway, and it's a time of light-hearted fun! It is a LOT of fun to dress up as something you're not, for an evening!
This year, I've made 144 bags of candy for our 120 band students, (and a few extra for younger brothers and sisters who may be there). The band moms and I are dressing up and passing out candy bags to our not so little kids, to basically say, "Happy Halloween! We love you!"
I have 5 small boxes of bags-- each one just heavy enough to be a pain when I carry them, but I CAN carry them, so that's good! And I hope that each kid can find something in there that they will enjoy! Between the Lemon Heads, (I ate one box and golly, they were surprisingly good!), the light sticks, the fake vampire teeth, the Tootsie Rolls, and Dum Dum suckers... Maybe they will be pleased!
Then, there is just a whole slew of fun stuff to see on the internet! This is one of the cuter ones, I think!
Our dogs don't like to dress up-- nor do our cats! But, on occasion, I dress them anyway. MUCH to their dismay! About all I can do for Tommy is put a ruffle around his neck. He actively rebels against any other such nonsense from his humans! Lulu actually likes her ruffles, and she has a darling little dress she loves to wear-- made of a candy corn pattern fabric. Freddy's costumes last about 5 seconds, and then he eats them. Chewing them with a "Take That!"
Got any special Halloween plans? Dressing your children or your dogs in costumes? Dressing up yourself?
What's the scoop at your neck of the woods?
Thanks for coming by!

Boo Bear is not at all fond of his cowboy hat!
That sounds like such a wonderful time! I would love it!
Our trick-or-treaters come by the bucket load-- I wonder if this year's cold weather will make them stay home. Usually, it's not chilly enough for a jacket!
Is he a CATtleman?
We[re supposed to have snow!!! SNOW. I bet no one comes out and I just bought a huge bag of candy... I bought all this candy for the band kids and had none on hand for my trick or treaters! How could I forget?
Be careful, John, and have a great Halloween!
He's a Cowcat. Ride 'em Cowcat!
Boo, on rare occasion, jumps on the dogs and 'rides' them. It scares them to death and they behave as if they are being murdered... But, he has no front claws, and never digs in with his back claws, (there is never any blood), so I'm beginning to believe it is all show-- on everyone's part!
Have a great Halloween, A. Mac!
Hey, dear ambi-- have a wonderful Halloween!
the Masked Cat likes his hat.... Happy Halloween....
Dear LR, I'm so glad to see you! Thank you for the darling Halloween goodie, and the very same to you! Hope you have lots of fun!
We've done that before, too! I had forgotten to buy candy, and it was just easier to hide out...
Happy Halloween, dear friend! Hope you have a wonderful evening!
Sounds like you are well-armed for the fun night, Dowser. I haven't even bought the candy yet! Better run to the store. I so hate shopping that I postpone that part until the 11th hour. I used to be much better prepared in years past, but things have changed now. My daughter (the only one at home now) goes off for a Halloween dance at school every year and parents are not involved, so I will just be handing out some treats at the front door. Not as exciting as yours, but it is fun to watch the little ones come knocking in their cute costumes.
Happy Halloween to you and your family Dowser. And to all others on NT.
I live off the beaten path and have no trick or treaters. Guess I will buy a bag of Hershey Kisses and eat the whole thing. Hope Sasquatch does not come trick or treating here.
When the kids were in gradeschool, we used to make up little 'goodie bags' for their classmates: a small dose of candy, and lots of glow-in-the-dark bugs, plastic spiders, eyeballs, etc (dirt cheap thru Oriental Trading Co.) The kids loved it, but we always heard at P/T conferences that teachers were finding big spiders & creepy bugsstashed in books & drawers for weeks, and the cafeteria staff flipped out seeing eyeballs in leftover macaroni & cheese and severed 'fingers' stuck in uneaten baked beans...
When our son was little we always took him trick or treating in his babysitter's neighbor. It was great, lots of kids in the neighborhood so most everybody participated. There was one house on the next street over that had one of the huge red popcorn machines and that was what they passed out...bags of warm, fresh popped corn! The Dads would take the boys around and Carol & I would stay at the house to pass out candy and have our own little treats! Nowadays, we get very few kids come around but we still give out treats.
Bless your heart!
It takes me forever to lose, but seconds to gain, it seems... MUCH love to you!
Although they celebrate Christmas here (without the religion - they just have parties) they don't do Hallowe'en. The kids don't know what they're missing.
We've done that before at my church in Owensboro, and had a ball!!!
Happy Reformation Day, and Happy Halloween, dear jennilee!
It is so much fun, dear Neetu! I surely hope that you have a wonderful Halloween!
Wish I could go to a dance...
Dear friend, thanks so much! Happy Halloween to you, too! Please keep your camera ready, just in case Sasquatch DOES come to visit! Think what a Photo Friday that would make!
That is so funny!
I bought everyone vampire teeth, light sticks, and the rest is candy... I hope we don't see vampire teeth stuck in the instruments!
Happy Halloween, dear friend!
Oh, Uppy, those are so cute! They really add to season!
I hope you have a wonderful time this evening! I'm not expecting whole slews of kids, the weather is going to be really awful! Record-setting cold and snow... But, we never know!
Happy Halloween!
Since most of the costumes are made in China, I wonder if they thing we're a bunch of ghouls... I wish you could be here, Buzz-- that would be the holiday I would miss the most! Good old neighborhood fun!
Have a Happy Halloween, Buzz, even if it is just the two of you!
This year I dressed up as someone in a higher tax bracket.
Scary thought, right?
Got a more frightening one, Enoch dress as an IRS Agent.
Dear Friend A. Mac: Frightening indeed! LOL.
E.
Both of you are too scary for words! So glad I missed it...
Hope you both had a great Halloween!
We went to our final band competition yesterday-- 7:30 am to wayyyy into the night... I'm just glad THAT's over!
My son's band took 5th place in the state-- which is great! The competition is fierce! (And the same 4 bands have won every year since 1985, in their class.)
