Trump is in the middle of a press conference right now. The lie-o-meter is being broken.

For example, he claims that this crowd is no more than 1000 people.

Harris-neutralizing-a-key-Trump-advantage-crowd-size-scaled.jpg

This photo represents less than half the people who were there. This rally in Detroit ws estimated at 15,000.

That is incredibly easy to do since most everything out of Trump's mouth is a lie.   Nowadays, he is getting even worse (if that is possible).   Claiming that he had a bigger crowd than MLK in 1963 at the DC Mall?   That the US economy is on the cusp of a depression?    That we are close to WWIII?   That Harris is stupid and cannot even pass the Bar exam?

How can anyone even consider voting for this nutcase?

He said Kamala couldn't pass the bar exam?

It's a little misleading. He is trying to make use of the fact that she did fail the exam the first time she took it. (So did I, but I'm not running for president.) And, like me, she passed it the second time. Generally, when you go looking for a job, no one asks you how many times you took the exam. All they care about is that you passed it.

By the way, historically, the California Bar Exam has been considered to be - arguably - the hardest in the nation. Delaware is close because it's so specifically focused on corporate law. The California exam was three days, when every other exam is two. 6 or 7 years ago, they changed it to two (must be nice!). Also, the required score for passing is/was higher than almost every other state. When I failed the exam that first time, my score would have been passing in 48 other states.

It was soul-crushing to fail, though. I think it's arguably harder to pick yourself up off the floor, study some more, and take it again. It's also a very skill-specific kind of test. You have to really understand how to take it. I've known some very smart people, who know the law better than I do, but had to take it four, five, or six times before they passed.

Unfortunately, most voters don't know any of this, and they'll go away from rallies like this thinking that somehow Kamala Harris had a career as a prosecutor without passing the bar. That seems insane, but that's what they'll think.

Meanwhile, guess how many bar exams Trump has passed . . .

Unfortunately I think that's true of a lot of people in that they will hear something from a person they think highly of and believe it completely rather than perform any critical thinking. We see these people all over the place, not just at Trump rallies. In this case it's really crazy to think there are people who could believe that Harris never passed the bar as it's an easy guess that having passed the bar is one of the important steps in working as a prosecutor, or the AG.

Thanks for that info.  I bet a lot of folks fail it the first time, no matter how smart and savvy you/they may be.  That's got to be tough, I'm sure.  I handled students taking their shelf exams at the end of their rotations at the University of Maryland (and by the way, one of my nephews is a 4th year medical student now at Brown University and hopes to do his internship there, at the University of Maryland that is) and sometimes they had to re-take some or all of their two three-month rotations, at least with one Program Director I worked with who was a real stickler.

Hell , they might both develop feelings for eachother, and my goodness, they might even share a bed, and then think of what might happen....hell, there is no limit as to what a man might do to gain favor with a woman he was really attracted to and wanted in the Biblical sense, now is there

So let me see if I can figure out liberal ‘logic’.
At the time, Kamala was a twenty something year old woman who was just starting out in San Francisco. She was looking to get a particular position in the SFDA office. She slept with a decades older Willie, who, at the time, was married with three children.
Not only was she a mistress, she was also a home wrecker, but you want to dismiss this as nothing more than a ‘boyfriend/girlfriend’ incident.
You probably also think that is was a ‘coincidence’ that she got the job she was seeking after she slept with Willie. (Notice no question mark at the end of that)

End result…..she prostituted herself for personal gain.

So you dust off the 2020 misogyny.

Is it wrong, in your alternate reality, for a woman to have a relationship with a man that includes sex?

Is it unusual, in your alternate reality, for a person in power to open doors for people they care about ... family, friends, lovers?

To conclude that a woman who has sex with a man means that she has prostituted herself to gain whatever advantages the man can offer is blatant misogyny.

Given said woman went on to be a successful prosecutor, district attorney for San Francisco, attorney general for California (elected twice), Senator for California, and the VP, that would suggest that she is actually more than a willing sex partner.   Unless someone cannot imagine a woman being successful unless she sleeps her way up the ladder.

There is no home "wrecked" if the marriage was over in all but legality before she and Brown started dating.  The home was "wrecked" before she entered the picture.  She is not a "homewrecker".

Of course I do.  He'd moved out over a decade earlier.  He'd dated other women before Harris.  He fathered at least one child with another woman.  If he had intentions to return to his wife, he'd have done so.  Nothing was stopping him other than his own inclinations.

Harris didn't wreck a home.

Trump, on the other hand, did.  His own.  Twice, at least.

as a retired military, take offense to someone who lies for decades to gain an advantage.

What fucking advantage?

Only 5% of the electorate are veterans split 34% GOP, 29% Dems and the rest not interested or independent.

There are approximately 16.5 million vets, 8.1 million over 65 years old.

Only 17% are retired with full benefits , that's approximately 2.8 million.

A third of that is 920,000 who might be hung up on this issue but I doubt it.

Enough vets know what he did in the House and appreciate not only his 24 years in uniform

but his 8 years on the Vets Committee as a Rep for all, not just MN.

The other 209 million voters have no idea why you are so offended and don't know you or give a darn.

IMHO this is the wrong hill to die on.

I don’t know if you have ever spent time in the military, but it is VERY difficult to acheice rank to E7 and even harder to go higher because the billets are few but those that are vying for those billets far outnumber the actual billets.
I don’t really care is 209 million people do not care that he lied about his retirement rank or that he lied about his service. That is on them to be uninformed, but for those of us that DO know the difference can be the difference in him becoming VP or not, hopefully the latter.

I do not intend on dying on any hill. I was raised to be truthful in everything I claim, and it is a shame that other people obviously do not share those values.

IIRC, in every debate I've ever seen*, the moderators enforce strict time limits to how long each person can speak when its their turn.

Why do you think this one should be different? What makes you think they will let Harris (or Trump for that matter) talk as long as they want to?

Because debaters like Trump, or even Joe biden are famous for interrupting their opponents which resulted in plenty of cross talk. The last Biden Trump debate was the first time mics were turned off for one debater while the other one spoke. It forced Biden to speak without interruption and we all know the results.

It is, practically speaking, too late.   Vance has been chosen as the VP nominee by the GOP convention.   Vance would have to withdraw or the GOP would have to reconvene in some form and force him out and nominate a replacement.   That is almost certainly not going to happen.   Also, the optics would be horrible for Trump since it would scream incompetence.   Of course, given the way his cult operates, it will probably be spun as a positive ... some kind of "your're fired!" tough business guy nonsense and they would believe it.

Anyway, chances are excellent that Trump and Vance are stuck with each other.   Hopefully it ends Nov 5th.

What I'm sad about, however, is that I think Israel would be much better off with a Trump win, but I guess the way to victory for Harris/Walz is to acknowledge (tolerate? maybe even SUPPORT) the terrorist/Hamas supporters in their Party and the protesting youth.  God help Israel and the Jews around the world.

I don't believe that Israel would be better off with Trump.  With rhe slightest perceived slight by Israel, or when Netanyahu is finally replaced, or if there is any personal benefit to Trump in any way, he wouldn't hesitate to turn on Israel in an instant.  Trump cannot ever be trusted about anything.

There is NO WAY Harris/Walz would ever support terrorists or Hamas supporters under any circumstance.

"Name one DEMOCRATIC Hamas supporter..."

Rashida Tlaib.  Do you actually need a quotation?

A few days ago I read an article that said that two Muslim leaders from Michigan were told by Harris that she would listen to their argument.  I can no longer locate it, so I will have to rely on this:

1.   Harris quickly pivots to convincing Arab American voters of her leadership

LINK -> Harris quickly pivots to convincing Arab American voters of her leadership - ABC News (go.com)

Thank you Joni, for your song "Both Sides Now"  (aka Clouds)

2.   Harris did what no VP has ever done before, she skipped Netanyahu's speech to Congress in order to talk to a few sorority sisters.  You tell me what was more important, GG.

3.   She chose Walz over Shapiro.  Here is what the Arab-Americans had to say about that:

"We feel like we were one of the major factors in Biden leaving [the presidential race]. I think we were also a factor in compelling Harris to not choose Shapiro for VP, with his positions on Israel and the protesters," Imad Hamad, executive director of the Dearborn-based American Human Rights Council, told  The New Arab .

LINK -> Will Kamala Harris win back Arab and Muslim voters in Michigan? (newarab.com)

In my opinion, their opinion is bang on.

By now, GG, you surely must know my feelings about Israel, and the reasons I feel the way I do about the Gazans, and the Palestinians in general.

Rashida Tlaib

I DO NOT like her, or her stance towards Israel.  I'm not certain that I have ever seen a quote where she actually supports Hamas.  If she blames Israel for Hamas's terrorism, that would be support for Hamas and I would condemn her for that totally.

Harris quickly pivots to convincing Arab American voters of her leadership

I do not have any problem with Harris attempting to convince Arab Americans to vote for her.  She has never said she would abandon Israel.  She would like to see a cease-fire in Gaza.  So would I.  Israel cannot continue to devastate the civilian population in Gaza.  I believe that most Israelis agree.  Also, I think "pivot" is a loaded word here and not applicable.

Netanyahu's speech to Congress

Netanyahu's speech to Congress was a gimmick and served no purpose other than as a Republican propaganda ploy and an effort on his behalf to strengthen his tenuous domestic Israeli political position.  I listened to his speech.  Did you?

She chose Walz over Shapiro.

Do you believe America is ready to vote for a mixed race liberal black and Indian woman from California and a liberal Jewish guy from a northeastern state as President and Vice-President in the same election?  It's possible, but also, possibly too experimental, for lack of a better word.  I believe that Walz has a broader demographic appeal than Shapiro.

That is a self-serving/self-aggrandizing statement by a special interest group attempting to propagandize their influence far beyond, light years beyond, what it actually may be.  The major factor in Biden leaving the race was his age and dismal debate performance.  I dispute that the influence of this Arab interest group played any factor at all in Biden leaving the race, nor do I believe they were a factor in Harris choosing Walz instead of Shapiro.  The Arab voter demographic in America is fairly miniscule.  In my opinion, his opinion is a bunch of B.S.

I am well-aware of your feelings about Israel.  I share them.  As you know, I have Israeli cousins.  Our grandfathers were brothers from Belarus, but my grandfather immigrated to America in about 1910, and their grandfather, who was much younger, went to British Palestine, or whatever you want to call it, in 1939 before the Germans invaded their village and killed the rest of the family.  All Gazans are NOT Hamas terrorists, or even Hamas supporters, and neither are all Palestinians.  I've known, and represented, Arab people from the Middle East, some of Palestinian heritage as well as non-Palestinian Arabs, and the only thing anyone of them ever told me is they want to see peaceful co-existence between the Arab countries and Israel.

I don't care for Netanyahu, but I agreed with everything he had to say to Congress, whether or not it was a "gimmick".  I didn't hear it, but I read an exact transcription of it.  Almost a quarter of a century ago I sat at a table next to the one he was sitting at in the lounge of the hotel in Jerusalem where our group was staying.  My friend (and client), actor Harvey Atkin (Meatballs, Law and Order), went over to shake his hand and I took a photo of that, just while Netanyahu said "No photos!  Oh, too late."   I believe he is doing whatever he can to extend the war in order to keep himself out of jail, but as bad as that is, my feelings about Hamas are much worse.  Although I do fortunately have access to much less biased western news sources, including video news from CTV (Canada Television) and other western sources, I also watch China's CGTN (China Global Television News), which is, as the government is, biased in favour of the Arabs.  As you may know, China has been working very hard to establish good relations with the Arab nations, so what can anyone expect?   I'm sick of hearing the daily reports of how many children the IDF has killed, but NEVER a mention of how many Hamas militants and their supporters were eliminated.  Every day there is a report of how many "Palestinians" are killed by the bombardment of schools by the "occupation forces", but never a mention that the Hamas militants hide among those civilians, who do hide them, and use them as human shields.  Of course Hamas denies doing that, and I have zero respect for anyone who believes what those declared terrorists have to say, including the numbers they quote.  To me, the existence of Israel as the Jewish State is absolutely essential and I will not tolerate ANY who threaten or even speak against that existence.

I think Trump supporters —especially veterans— need to be reminded of comments by Trump's former Chief of Staff, General John Kelly

In the past, one of the things the Republican Party talked about was their commitment to a strong defense. But given Trump's continuous bashing of our allies (and specifically his attacks on NATO-- as well as opposition to Ukraine and his praise of Putin) obviously that is no longer the case.

Yes, unless 4 star General John Kelly is lying.

But that is ignored by Trump supporters.    Think of it, all those veterans who are going to vote to make Trump CiC when Trump not only has no concept of patriotism and altruism and, worse, looks at POWs and KIAs with disdain.   Partisan politics is more important to them than the demeaning of fellow veterans who paid a high (and the highest) price for their country??

General Kelly is a Patriot, Trump is a treasonous traitor whose typical behavior and past quite unbelievable statements against special needs reporters, Gold Star Parents, John McCain and POW's, all point to Trump saying these disgusting words, cause it IS WHO TRUMP IS, a POS who cares only about himself and his wealth. He has not a patriotic bone in his body, unless a true Patriot was bangin him in the asz, and Putin ain't an American Patriot!

Trump would have had his own Vice President Pence HUNG to prolong his lying asz as

potUS, and that should tell you all you need to know about the J BAG. What does Kelly gain by stating this if it were not true ? Why do 41 or so former cabinet officials feel so strongly against Trump becoming President again ? They refuse to endorse or support the POS cause they saw him, jiust like General Kelly saw him, a fckd up lying thieving scoundrel who should be behind bars, NOT protecting him like Barr, another POSm as are all of the Republicans who have enabled this POS to still be able to run for POTUS, when he should be behind BARS !

The Trump supporters that know, and many do, who the fck this petty little 'man'  IS, and yet still defend him and his acts, are also traitorous in my eyes. He should be behind BARS, not the GOP NOMINEE FOR POTUS, WTF PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot stress this fact enough. It is just ridiculous that people could even consider returning this piece of crap to OUR White House is just mind boggling, and damn embarrassing for thinking Americans.

Trump needs to LOSE in NOVEMBER and then be PROSECUTED to the fullest extent of the LAW for stealing and most likely SELLING our Top Secret Documents and for traitorous acts of pushing false electors and WITHOUT EVIDENCE pushing the  LIE the election was STOLEN from him and inciting, after gathering his insurrectionist following to storm the capitol in an attempt to cease the peaceful transfer of power in our country! What a Disgrace !
