Former President Donald   Trump   kicked off a North Carolina campaign rally with a pledge to slap the names of Confederate generals on military bases — and was met with overwhelming cheers.

Trump's promise to re-instate the name of Fort Bragg —   stripped from the base   after the violent death of George Floyd, a Black man, under a police officer's knee — was met with cries of celebration,   video   of the event shows.

"Should we change the name from Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg?" Trump asked the crowd. "I'm doing it. And we're leading in all the polls, we should get elected. Remember this, they cheat like hell. Too big to rig. We need too big to rig."

Gram Slattery,   a reporter for Reuters, explained the fort was named after Braxton Bragg, who was "widely considered among the Confederacy's worst generals and a very stern slaveowner."

Trump went on later in the speech to   add , "I think I just learned the secret to winning absolutely and by massive margins. I'm gonna promise to you ... that we're gonna change the name back to Fort Bragg."

The former president appeared delighted that a soldier had faced jeers for referring to the North Carolina base by its official name.

"This great looking soldier just accidentally said Fort Liberty," Trump said. "He almost got booed the hell out of the place!"

Many social media commenters professed themselves shocked both by Trump's promise and the overwhelming response he received.

Independent congressional reporter Jamie Dupree argued Trump was obsessed with a past defeat.

"Trump is still mad that the Pentagon changed the names of military bases named for Confederate generals,"   wrote   Dupree. "He vetoed a major military policy bill with that provision, but Congress overrode his veto."

Retired Marine fighter pilot and former Senate candidate Amy McGrath was blunt in her criticism of Trump and the crowd.

"He’s really going after the racist, un-enlightened, clinging to the lost cause of the confederacy vote,"   wrote   McGrath. "That’s actually a minority of the military/veteran community in 2024. There are old guys who care about base names. Post 911 vets either don’t care or welcome the change."

Every CSA soldier, officer and camp follower who took up arms against the Union committed treason according to the definition of the Constitution.

Their parole and/or amnesty doesn't lessen the fact that they were traitors.

I had no idea how bad this speech was until I read most of the transcript, same victim, same demonizing, same divineness ad nauseum for 71 minutes.

Transcript Of Trump's Speech At Rally Before Capitol Riot : NPR

We will not let them silence your voices. We're not going to let it happen, I'm not going to let it happen.

(Audience chants: "Fight for Trump.")

...

And I actually, I just spoke to Mike. I said: "Mike, that doesn't take courage. What takes courage is to do nothing. That takes courage." And then we're stuck with a president who lost the election by a lot and we have to live with that for four more years. We're just not going to let that happen.

...

That election, our election was over at 10 o'clock in the evening. We're leading Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, by hundreds of thousands of votes.

And then late in the evening, or early in the morning, boom, these explosions of bull****.

And all of a sudden. All of a sudden it started to happen.

(Audience chants: "Bull****.")

...

By the way, Pennsylvania has now seen all of this. They didn't know because it was so quick. They had a vote. They voted. But now they see all this stuff, it's all come to light. Doesn't happen that fast. And they want to recertify their votes. They want to recertify. But the only way that can happen is if Mike Pence agrees to send it back. Mike Pence has to agree to send it back.

(Audience chants: "Send it back.")

And many people in Congress want it sent back.

...

And we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore.

Our exciting adventures and boldest endeavors have not yet begun. My fellow Americans, for our movement, for our children, and for our beloved country.

And I say this despite all that's happened. The best is yet to come.

So we're going to, we're going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue. I love Pennsylvania Avenue. And we're going to the Capitol, and we're going to try and give.

The Democrats are hopeless — they never vote for anything. Not even one vote. But we're going to try and give our Republicans, the weak ones because the strong ones don't need any of our help. We're going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.

So let's walk down Pennsylvania Avenue.

I want to thank you all. God bless you and God Bless America.

Thank you all for being here. This is incredible. Thank you very much. Thank you.

He, by that speech and others, doesn't want to understand that we always count ALL of the votes, no matter how many hours or days it takes to open the mail in ballots or overseas ballots within the legal limits of that jurisdiction.

It simply doesn't matter that he had 66 million in 2016 and 74 million in 2020, it matters what the opposition had.

It simply doesn't matter that he had the lead in the swing states at 10PM EST, the country has several time zones that must be still be counted.

And in the end it only mattered what the Electoral College vote was.

He lost by every reasonable measure.

He lost 62 cases in court, a third of those judges, Trump appointees.

He lost.

He is still losing.

I imagine common sense would have something to do with that, they were tweets.

Trump was standing 30 feet away from a crowd he described as hundreds of thousands all the way back to the end of the Reflection Pool. He was shouting, he was imploring he was trying to convince his loyal crowd that they needed to act NOW.

Where is the target insurrection to a tweet?

So where are the spontaneous insurrections you think you can charge Raskin or Biden for?

Thats a very week deflection.  Tweets from 2017, 2019 and 2020 from both impeachments?

Rep. Madeleine Dean said that one of Trump’s key defenses is that he says during his speech: “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

But Dean said that was a “few seconds” in a nearly 11,000-word speech and that it was the “only time President Trump used the word peaceful or any suggestion of nonviolence.” She said that wasn’t the overarching message.

She said, “President Trump used the word ‘fight’ or ‘fighting’ 20 times, including telling the crowd they needed to ‘fight like hell.'”

Choking back emotion, she said, “So they came, draped in Trump’s flag, and used our flag, the American flag, to batter and to bludgeon. And at 2:30, I heard that terrifying banging on House chamber doors. For the first time in more than 200 years, the seat of our government was ransacked on our watch.”

WATCH: Trump used ‘fight’ or ‘fighting’ 20 times in rally speech, Dean says | PBS News

Context. Situation awareness. "Reading the room." So, it is clear, it is not the words themselves stated in a particular order that rises to the occasion of incitement it is how those words are rendered in context of the hearers. And of course, wisdom in discernment is involved too!

For example, if I say, 'This upcoming election will be bloodless if some conservatives let it.' People are going to want a clarification of my statement, because the statement is open for interpretation.

They imagine themselves the victims and underdogs fighting for "their" America which in their minds is one of white evangelical males with little to no higher education (which they see as indoctrination) because facts about the confederacy and facts about their deep-seated racism are uncomfortable and frankly, they like wallowing and stewing in their own stupidity and bigotry, they take to it like pigs take to mud.

They take pride in their heritage that is deeply rooted in treason. They're still bitter and angry that their ancestors lost the civil war and there are a bunch of those violent morons who want another shot at destroying our nation and replacing it with a vile racist authoritarian government that caters only to white Christian nationalists and legalizes segregation and criminalizes homosexuality or anything that doesn't confirm to their misogynistic racist white Christian ideology. That's what Trump represents and why they fight so hard to get him elected, he is their hero, champion and new messiah who has convinced them only he can give them their "Promised Land" of a racist white Christian nation.

No remark about Crooked Donald pandering. Also, if boots, bullets, and bombs are not bought due to name changes. . .it's STUPIDER to spend the money changing back!

By the way, war is so over-rated. Time for the nations of the world, 'gang-up' for PEACE. In which case, after nations 'sign on' for peace, . . .nations which go to war. . should be over-ran by "the community of nations" and dissolved! That would fix warring fools in leadership the world over!

Of course, if dissolving a state, or states, is not sufficient enough. . . the Community of states, with the power vested in it should invade, singular or multiple states involved in warring against the other.  (It's food for thought, anyway.) :)

A "community of nations" - could be all nations gang up on the insufferable fools which gain power and make the world suffer for their having done so! Adults should be more responsible! Time they realize it. Find better ways to solve problems, besides gore, ruin, destruction, loss, and 'hell on Earth'!  A community of peace-loving nations (even if it is the only policy on which they all agree).

The suffering children of the world would appreciate Peace. That thing imagined, but they hear rumored about in other parts of the world.  The world nations-the adults-of the world should ADVOCATE and come together to DEMAND world peace (instead of sitting around 'eternally' wringing their hands and spinning their wheels)!

I was sitting here today watching evening television when a (charity) ad came on; it displayed hungry children in war-torn settings who need. . . help. . . and the plead is "help me" from the commercial - give $10 dollars monthly.

It angered me. One more charity to add to the growing lists of desperate children in the world in need. In need.

What if their foolish nation/s just stop killing and destroying themselves. What if the adults thought of their children with respect for their lives and their 'living' in squalor due to the acts and misadventures in fighting and conflicts with their neighbors.

Those children in the ad and in war-torn lands would have 'ready' futures of peace. If, and its a big if, the foolish, ridiculous, ADULTS would put down their guns, boots, and bombs, and made peace work for the sake of their children. (Whom are living in squalor, filth, insecurity, and growing up "stunted" and fearful every day of their young lives-RIGHT NOW.)

Easy for you to judge in your protected, comfortable environment.     You’d feel differently if you and yours were missing needed US aid because it was being given to say, illegal immigrants instead.

That said, no country provides more aid to the rest of the world than the USA.    Either through funding of the UN or direct general public and private aid.

No they aren't.  They are suffering because of a thousand year weather event from a CAT 4 Hurricane which most people in it's path ignored.

In the end, almost every local, county and state government will have been judged to have not given Helene due respect.

I have family in NOAA, in Ashville, that work at the Federal building,  the family evacuated to a SC camp to work remotely

but no one in Ashville could be convinced until 6:55AM the day the hurricane arrived and stalled over Buncombe County.

They underestimated, pure and simple; they were already at 9 inches of rain saturation before Helene arrived.

Milton is right behind it but not "expected" to veer north, another storm is forming behind Milton.

That cannot be blamed on budgeting or politics.  Individuals or herd mentality, yes to a small degree.

Mayorkas said that leaving replenishment of the disaster relief fund out of the temporary spending bill, could affect what is available in the coming weeks because Congress went on a three week pre election recess without addressing ongoing mid western wild fires and approaching hurricanes.

In reality, it's going to be a couple of years before Ashville reaches a semblance of what it was last week.

American People will continue to suffer and no amount of money or resources can fix what they have lost.

Less time wasted on what bases are named and more time spent on mission readiness.

Mission readiness is never affected by changing the letterhead on the paperwork. In fact depending on the software and version of printers, it's been easy.  More money was probably spent on capable ink jet printers than anything else.

One wonders how many boots, bullets and bombs were not bought because of money spent on name changes.

One months worth of 155 shells to Ukraine. $39million to change the signage and paperwork for 10 bases.

Stupid!

Congress appropriated it.  Now if you want to cut back on stupid military spending, maybe you could make a case to curbing

the use of erectile dysfunction medicine which the services spent $84.24 million on in FY2018.

From 2016 through 2021 the combined military health care system spent $3 million annually on transgender therapy and medicine.

That included $3.1 million for surgeries.  Trump blocked all treatments in 2017 and the matters are now creeping along in 4 separate lawsuits.  The people involved included Purple Heart recipients, Bronze Star winners, attack aviators, Navy SEALs and other heroes now stuck in partial transition.

Tricare does not cover gender dystrophia at all.

Tricare apparently spends $41 million annually on Viagra & Cialis.

And since I am uncomfortable talking about you and your feelings—I won't do so. Moving on.

Some conservatives are about their IDEOLOGY and it stirs nothing in them that others are unhappy 'trying' to live like conservatives. . . when they clearly are not conservative.

Let me be clear, there is not much wrong with conservativism—for CONSERVATIVES.

It is the conservative 'yearning' to have sway and control over the lives of others in our society (whom pay their societal dues too just like and equal to themselves) that creates. . . CULTURE WARS out of whole cloth and a willingness to meddle, demonize, and otherize their fellow citizens!

But Trump is opposed to a powerful American military (for example, he is opposed to powerful ties with our friends and allies, and wants to weaken NATO).

So, when this POS was president, he vetoed a bill because it allowed for the renaming of certain bases. Congress actually overrode that veto, demonstrating it had broad bipartisan support.

I'm all for renaming a federal penitentiary where Trump could serve out the rest of his life after him.
