We often hear about the distinction, if there is one, between "the" president, and "my" president.  This refers to a level of acceptance of the results .

Will Trump be "my" president ?    Nope, although if he wins he will be the duly elected president.  "My president" projects a false unity, and if I acknowledged that the most unfit candidate in US history  is "my" president I wouldnt be able to look myself in the mirror again.

If Trump wins and the Democrats retake the House I expect impeachment within a few weeks.

Will Trump be "my" president.

Let's be perfectly clear.  Trump will never consider himself to be YOUR president, or the president of anyone who is not one of his cultists.  He will think of himself as your ruler.

Why are voters being asked if whoever wins the election will be 'their President'?  The answer depends upon the President's priorities and working agenda.  The voters don't have a voice in how the government actually functions.  The voters don't get to choose who will be winners and losers in any President's administration.  The President has the choice; mere citizens really have no choice.  Mere citizens are expected to just pay their taxes, keep their damned mouths shut, and do what they're told.

"My" president implies a level of acceptance that the winner was the people's choice and thus what is best for the country. Ain't happening with me.

Sorry, there is extremely convincing evidence that Trump is a traitor, and a lunatic.  He won't be "my president"  but you are free to enjoy his psychopathic traits if you want.

Oh my. ‘Mere citizens’ still, will always have a voice.

That is merely an observation that confirms the idea of some that we are but fodder in dutiful acceptance of a potential oligarchy. Never going to happen.

The reason Kirk is worrying about turnout is that there is still a strong assumption that same day voting is heavily Trump.  If same day turnout is lagging that would be bad for Trump.

"WILL THE PERSON WHO WINS THE ELECTION BE 'YOUR' PRESIDENT ?"

NO, I have no "PRESIDENT"  (but I DO have a Prime Minister even though he can't fit his father's shoes).

Contrary to what seems to be popular opinion here...

Yes, whoever wins the election will be MY President. I am an American citizen and I still believe in founding fathers believed was the Great Experiment that created the government of the USA. After all, whoever wins the election will have been deemed the best suited for the position by the citizens of this country.

I will be consistent. I can't stand the moral turpitude of Crooked Donald. I will state that I wish Hispanics, Blacks, and women voting for what they are about to undergo with "the Donald' well should he win, however. I have no intentions of pretending that a coward, hater, abuser, braggart, insulter, liar, cheater, thief, and fool can represent my principles on the national and international stage. :)

And it gets worse, because the SCOTUS won't change in my lifetime (anytime soon).

On a personal level, Trump is a jerk and sometimes a sorry individual. But that particular "jerk" is who we need in office right now with the world stage in such a mess the last four years. I honestly could never imagine Harris standing up to and going face to face against the likes of Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran. She just does not have the intestinal fortitude needed to do so. That does not even say what she would do to the domestic issues. There was more chance of Harris getting us into a major war than Trump.
