Why doesn't the GOP call these people out instead of electing them?

Matt Gaetz, Roy Moore, Bouchard, Larry Craig, etc...

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

U.S. House candidate Anthony Bouchard had a relationship with and impregnated a 14-year-old girl when he was 18, he told the Star-Tribune late Thursday, hours after he disclosed the relationship in a Facebook Live video to his supporters.

Bouchard, who did not specify the girl's age in the video, said he went public with the information to get ahead of the story after learning that people were investigating it in opposition to his candidacy. A Wyoming state senator since 2017, Bouchard has risen in prominence since announcing he would challenge Rep. Liz Cheney following her vote to impeach then-President Donald Trump.

"So, bottom line, it's a story when I was young, two teenagers, girl gets pregnant," he said in the Facebook Live video. "You've heard those stories before. She was a little younger than me, so it's like the Romeo and Juliet story."

Bouchard told the Star-Tribune he married the girl when she was 15 and he was 19. At the time, they were both living in Florida.

The two were legally able to get married at the time becauseFlorida law statedthat people could marry at any age with a judge's approval if a pregnancy was involved and a parent consented. They got divorced approximately three years later.

"A lot of pressure. Pressure to abort a baby. I got to tell you. I wasn't going to do it, and neither was she," he said. "And there was pressure to have her banished from their family. Just pressure. Pressure to go hide somewhere. And the only thing I could see as the right thing to do was to get married and take care of him."

Bouchard’s ex-wife killed herself when she was 20, he said. Online records list a woman with her name as being buried at a Jacksonville, Florida, cemetery in 1990. The Star-Tribune is choosing not to identify her.

“She had problems in another relationship. Her dad had committed suicide,” Bouchard said in the video.

After his ex-wife died, Bouchard said he continued to raise the couple's son, whom he briefly references in the video.

“Sadly, he's made some wrong choices in his life," he said. "He's almost become my estranged son. Some of the things that he's got going on his life, I certainly don't approve of them. But I'm not going to abandon him. I still love him. Just like when he was born.”

Going public

In the 13-minute video, Bouchard looks straight ahead as he rails against "dirty politics," the media and "the establishment swamp." He encouraged his supporters to share the video, saying he wanted "everyone to know."

"I don't want to hide anything," he told the Star-Tribune in a nearly hour-long phone call after the video was published. "I don't want people drug into this. This is just crazy over politics."

Bouchard said he decided to post a video to get ahead of a story about his previous marriage that he anticipates will be published sometime soon. In the video, Bouchard claims that an unnamed reporter and a “political opposition research company” were driving the effort together.

“We know the company that started this investigation. It's a political opposition research company. We know who they are and then it turned into a U.K. media reporter, is who's called me,” he said.

Bouchard said he did not respond to the media outlet.

"This is really a message about how dirty politics is," said Bouchard, one of Wyoming's most prominent gun rights advocates. "They'll stop at nothing, man, when you get in the lead and when you're somebody that can't be controlled, you're somebody who works for the people. They'll come after you. That's why good people don't run for office."

Around 11 a.m. Mountain Time Friday, U.K. newspaper the Daily Mail publishedits storyabout the pregnancy. It cited "an unnamed Republican operative" who is "in the Donald Trump faction of the party."

"We want this to be known about him because we need to clean the field," the operative is quoted as saying. "Five other candidates in the primary are going to split the vote in a small place like Wyoming, and Cheney is going to waltz in again."

Bouchard announced that he would challenge Cheney in the 2022 Republican primary in January, one week after the congresswoman voted to impeach Trump on charges he incited the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. Bouchard was the first person to announce a run against Cheney but has since been joined by seven others.

His name recognition quickly grew, buoyed in part by conservative vitriol against Cheney, who was viewed by many in Wyoming as betraying Trump and the voters who supported him. Bouchard began appearing on conservative television news programs, and his campaign raised $334,000 by the end of March, according to Federal Election Commission records.

Trump said he would soon endorse a candidate to run against Cheney but has yet to do so.

In his Twitter post linking to the video, Bouchard concluded: ”I won't back down, Swamp! @RepLizCheney Bring it!” And in Thursday's video, he said the people digging up the information only "care about ... helping people like Liz Cheney win." But in his conversation with the Star-Tribune, Bouchard said he believes Cheney was not involved in the attempts to publicize the story, which a Cheney spokesperson echoed early Friday.

"The Cheney campaign had no involvement in this at all," Jeremy Adler said.

Bouchard said the disclosure about his past relationship and the pregnancy wouldn't stop him from seeking office.

“Bring it on. I'm going to stay in this race," he said. "We're going to continue to raise money because my record stands on its own.”

An 18 year-old having sex with a 14 year-old is not a pedophile. The victim in pedophilia is prepubescent. Not 14. Also, the perpetrator generally needs to be at least 5 years older than the victim. Teenagers who have been through puberty are not engaging in pedophilia.

That's not quite true. An 18 year old can be convicted of statutory rape from having sex with a 14 year old. I wouldn't call it pedophilia, either, since an 18 year boy is about the same maturity as a 14 year old girl

Then I what I said is true, so don’t say it’s not. Pedophilia has a definition and we shouldn’t just go around using it to label everything we might disapprove of.

And as far as that goes, I very much doubt that anyone cares about an 18 year-old having sex with a 14 year-old, except for political reasons.

If you want to split hairs on definition, fine

You think being specific about things like serious sex crimes is “splitting hairs?” We’re talking about two people, one the age of a high school senior and the other of a high school freshman. It’s super common for people those ages to have a relationship, but you want to act like it’s some kind of sick, twisted perversion.

I find it absurdly hypocritical when we hear pearl-clutching shock from sanctimonious, puritanical adults (not saying that’s you) who want to pretend they were never teenagers with ordinary teenage sex drives. “I would never!” they declare, but the truth is, they totally would.

Even being accused of sex crimes - much less convicted of minor ones like we see here - can ruin lives (which is of course the point with this story). With the hysteria over this kind of thing, we can see ordinary teenage behavior characterized as evil and then used to brand a good person as a predator, to be feared and ostracized forever through registration.

Meanwhile, it’s often unacceptable to go after other politicians for things they said or did as actual, grown professional people. Ten or 20 years ago is too distant in the past for those people, but here, teenage sex from 40 years ago is worthy of our most judgy scrutiny. It’s ridiculous.

Also,I notice no one wants to give him praise for doing the right thing and staying with this girl and marrying her.

Republicans convicted of child sexual abuse

This pages serves to document prominent republicans (either directly or by association) found guilty of pedophilia.

Event dates on this thread attempt to get as close to the conviction date as possible.

Note, some names on popular lists circulating around the internet have individuals listed that are difficult or impossible to find any reliable sources on. Those people are:

  • Andrew Buhr, charged with two counts of sodomy with a 13 year old boy. No reliable sources can be found.
  • John Butler, arrested for sexually assaulting his sixteen year old niece. While true no evidence can be found he was a republican with any influence or power.
  • Robin Canderwall, Republican strategist and Citadel Military College graduate was convicted in Virginia on five counts of soliciting sex from boys and girls over the internet. Exists online only on lists, no other supporting sources could be found.
  • Kevin Koan, an election board official arrested for soliciting sex over the internet from a fourteen year old girl. No credible sources can be found.
  • Mark Foley, congressman resigned in 2006 for sending inappropriate emails to congressional pages. This appears to have been a huge scandal at the time. His emails(some of them were made public) were definitely creeper level, law states a person must have contact or attempt to have contact with a minor to warrant arrest. No evidence of this could be found.
  • Jack Gardner, marine and ex councilman convicted of molesting a thirteen year old girl. Searching indicated there is someone on the Sex Offender Registry by this name, however for what exactly, or that he had any affiliation with the Republican party. Appears to exist in lists only, no sources can verify this claim.
  • Marty Glickman, convicted in Florida on four counts of unlawful sexual activity with an underage girl. No sources could be found.
  • Mark Harrisconvicted of repeatedly having sex with an 11 year old girl and sentenced to 17 years in prison. No sources could be found.
  • Howard Scott Heldreth, convicted child rapist in Florida. No sources could be found.
  • John Hathaway, Congressional candidate accused of having sex with his 17 year old baby sitter and withdrew his candidacy after the allegations were reported in the media. While someone by this name did run for Congress in 1996, no sources of the allegations can be found.
  • Dennis Rader, Republican boy scout leader and zoning supervisor pleaded guilty for performing a sexual act on an 11 year old girl he murdered. He's a lot worse. He was known as the "BTL Serial Killer", and killed over eight people. However no refernces to his political associations could be found
  • Tom Randall, Republican petition leader Tom Randall pleads guilty to molesting two girls under the age of 14. True, though no evidence of him being a "petition leader" could be found.
  • Peter Schmitt, Couldn't find anything online.
  • David Swartt, Republican County Commissioner David Swartt pleaded guilty to molesting two girls under the age of 11 and was sentenced to 3 years in prison.  Exists online only on lists (seen on Reddit, Twitter). His actual name is Dave Scwartz. He's on the list
  • Lawrence Scott Ward, Republican consultant arrested at Dulles airport after authorities found child pornography and videotapes of him having sex with children. This is accurate according to public records of the case. He was a highly educated and a professor and consultant. However only references to consulting for Fortune 500's could be found, I couldn't anything that tied him to the party.
  • Steve Wilsey, Republican activist and James Dobson protege convicted of sexual assault after being charged with molesting an 8 year old boy. Exists on list only, no sources could be found.

Democratic Maine Assistant Attorney General, James Cameron, was sentenced to just over 15 years in federal prison for seven counts of child porn possession, receipt and transmission.

Democratic State Department official, Daniel Rosen, under Hillary Clinton’s state department, was arrested and charged with allegedly soliciting sex from a minor over the internet.

Democratic State Department official, James Cafferty, pleaded guilty to one count of transportation of child pornography.

Democratic radio host, Bernie Ward, plead guilty to one count of sending child pornography over the Internet.

Democratic deputy attorney general from California, Raymond Liddy, was arrested for possession of child pornography.

Imagine how broken brained you have to be to think this is a partisan issue.  I'm not going to engage with  this any further but hopefully this snapshot of Democrats will stop the crazies from trying to make this into just another partisan talking point. Everything isn't Democrats vs Republicans.

Well, I suppose one thing you can say about the "Whaddaboudism" method of attempted derial-- its become pretty obvious what the perpetrator of that ploy is doing (attempting a derail).

Anyway-- if your doing to try to derail the conversation-- why not try some less boring.

And more creative?

For example-- why not post some links to how President Calvin Coolidge cheated.

Or...Was President Taft actually a Pedophile?

(Curious minds want to know!!!)

Your reaction no way surprises me.  You bypass a poster obsessively  listing  Republicans  accused of sex crimes  (and  give it a thumbs up no less) to attack the person pointing out how silly making this  a partisan issue is.  Just like you obsessviely posted seeds about how the sky was falling every time the market dipped a half point when Trump was President, and stopped doing it when Biden became President.  You obviously feel compelled  to make sexual abuse a partisan issue.  I find that depressingly pathetic.

But partisan hacks gotta hack, so keep doing what you are doing.
