Would You Consider the $10,000 Chinese BYD Seagull EV?
Via: Outis • Alternative Energy • 35 Comments • 7 months ago
“New EVs are expensive! BYD, the Chinese automaker known for inexpensive EVs, recently said it's opening a production facility in Mexico. With...”
Other countries get choices. I don't mean between "big" and "bigger". There may be some way of buying a Hummer EV in Europe... but then again, there may not. For sure you can get reasonably-priced family EVs. So... would you buy a $ 10 000 Chinese EV?
EV fast-charging comes to condos and apartments

“A battery-buffered DC charger is an alternative to a bank of shared AC chargers.”
This is already fairly common in Europe, where higher density housing is more common. (In large parts of America, ONLY single-family housing is legal.) Progress is slow... but it's coming...
UK Fusion Team Achieves Major Milestone - Breakthrough Explained
Via: Outis • Alternative Energy • 1 Comments • 7 months ago
“First Light Fusion has achieved a major step towards solving one of the engineering challenges behind the design of a viable fusion pilot power...”
I am wary - to say the least - of any article about nuclear fusion. We've been serenaded with "Clean nuclear power is just around the corner" for decades. On the other hand, Ben Miles is an excellent explainer of complicated stuff, so when he posts a video about fusion... I watch. He has...

Via: Outis • Alternative Energy • 1 Comments • 7 months ago
“Now, we’ve all been driving electric cars for a while now, and although there are many things to love, the environmental benefits are a big reason...”
While we civilians are more directly interested in cars, the BIG gains from electrification will be in trucks. Here are three that Mercedes is selling in the UK. I couldn't find anything recent about EV trucks in the States. There's a lot about Tesla/Pepsi, but it's all a year old. That's a...
Ibadi - Islam's third major branch
Via: Outis • Religion & Ethics • 1 Comments • 8 months ago
“It is a somewhat forgotten branch, but one that is also often viewed as a moderate and tolerant branch of the religion.”
I didn't even know that this group existed until I watched a video from the excellent "Real Life Lore" site: Why Yemen is Dying & Oman is Booming. I'd seed that too, but it's over forty minutes...
Republican lawmaker leaves loaded gun in Colorado capitol bathroom
Via: Outis • History & Sociology • 52 Comments • 1 Like • 7 months ago
“Representative Don Wilson forgot his handgun in a bathroom. It was discovered and state police secured it.”
A quick search told me next to nothing about Mr Wilson. I have no reason to imagine that he's less attentive to firearms than any other. That's the point....
Biden urged to ban China-made electric vehicles
Via: Outis • Alternative Energy • 8 Comments • 8 months ago
“ We cannot allow China to bring its government-backed cheating to the American auto industry”
Sherrod Brown is a fairly liberal Democrat from a now-fairly-red state. There was a time when unions could deliver Ohio, but no more. Brown needs Biden to show Ohio's rust-belt workers that he's trying to help them.
20 best cities to own an electric vehicle

“Owning an electric car can be a headache, and where you live can make it easier or harder. Here are the best places for EV drivers.”
Not many surprises, here, with San Francisco and Boston near the top. Is Austin really in Texas?
The Truth About Human Population Decline
Via: Outis • History & Sociology • 23 Comments • 2 Likes • 8 months ago
“With birth rates falling, the worldwide human population is getting older and smaller.”
When I was a kid, a long time ago, we learned that the Earth would one day be over-populated, with all sorts of dire consequences. This is one of those cases where circumstances change fairly rapidly, but public perception is much slower. So... yes, there's a coming population problem: not...
Why Do We Believe What We Believe?
Via: Outis • Religion & Ethics • 123 Comments • 2 Likes • 8 months ago
“Why do we believe what we believe? Sometimes, we adopt beliefs because they are comfortable, not because they are sensible.”
Every day, including right here on NT, we see people who firmly believe things that are opposites. While some of these people may be pure hypocrites... it would be presumptuous and hazardous, morally and philosophically, to imagine that they are all hypocrites. So... what's going on?
