Feds claim there are no documents on record that apply to a so-called Trump 'declassification order'
By: Sarah K. Burris (Raw Story - Celebrating Years of Independent Journalism)
gee, I guess he forgot to do the paperwork...
Former President Donald Trump and his allies have claimed multiple times that there was a kind of "declassification order" on many of the documents that he took from the White House back to his country club in Florida.
In an interview with the Fox network, Trump said that while he was in office he "often took documents, including classified documents, to the residence" and "had a standing order that documents removed from the Oval Office and taken to the residence were deemed to be declassified the moment he removed them."
Former National Security Adviser John Bolton said that while he was there there was nothing of the sort going on, and that the idea of a standing declassification order is "almost certainly a lie."
ACLU lawyer Matthew Segal noted last week that colleagues sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the National Geospatial-intelligence agency requesting any documents pertaining to an "alleged declassification standing order, any written transmittal of the alleged declassification stand order from the executive office of the president of the United States to NGA, including by letter, memoranda, or email, all records created by NGA that were declassified pursuant to the alleged declassification standing order" up until Jan. 20, 2021.
The same request was also sent to the Department of Homeland Security. Both came back with the same answer.
On Sept. 8, Segal cited the letter from the NGA saying "Our extensive search of National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency records failed to identify any documents in our files that are responsive to your request."
Monday, the Department of Homeland Security returned the information explaining, "We conducted a comprehensive search of files within The Office of the Executive Secretary (ESEC) and the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) for records that would be responsive to your request. Unfortunately, we were unable to locate or identify any responsive records."

I wonder who trump will blame for that missing paperwork?
I read earlier they are saying that there are still more documents out there.
there's video of his stooges transferring boxes from mar-a-lardo to his jet headed to his jersey golf club.
What is very telling is that even after all of the filings, not once have they claimed that Trump ACTUALLY declassified anything. It's all Trump "may have" or "could have" or "had the authority to" but no written assertion that he actually DID. It seems that Trump can't get his lawyers to LIE in writing for him.
They need to exhume Ivanna.
I didn't think it was legal to bury someone on a golf course...
Well when you're above the law . . .
Because of that burial, that golf course property is now tax exempt.
it is a bit comical that he buried her on the first hole.
Depends on zoning. Estate vs. commercial property.
That's where the rest of the boxes of blackmail intel were buried.
Marla gets buried on the second hole; Melania gets third hole.
Michael Cohen places his bets on the trump kids' homes and Bedminster. And no one knows that grifting traitor better than Cohen.
Where is the pee pee tape buried I wonder?
It is in my will that I am to be buried in my favorite hot-rod of all time.
There is room in our family pre-bought plots for this to actually happen.
Primitive and religious funeral and burial ceremonies have always weirded me out.
I have no problem having a bit of fun with the surviving members of my family.
I don't want to ever see it!
It could turn me off of sex forever!
Better than the back nine...
aw... you really do get me, don't you...
This has always been very easy to verify. There is a formal record of each document that has been declassified. Without the record, the document is still classified.
Trump could have initiated a declassification process while PotUS on almost any document. But he had to actually execute (and complete) the process (and that involves other people) while he is PotUS.
Typical Trump lies will not work in this case. This is like lying that you own a car; without a recorded title (or equivalent) your claims are irrelevant.
I'm expecting another search warrant, or two...
Or three or four. Trump has spent his whole life lying like a cheap rug.
There are ways you can prove ownership, without producing a title. Take that further. This is like test driving a car owned by a dealership, parking it in your garage, asserting to the dealer that you don't have the car, inviting the dealer to look but slow playing the look, complaining when the dealer calls the cops to look...and they find the car, then admitting that you knew you had the car but allege that you purchased the car from the dealer.
I disagree that Trump is the slimiest of political figures we have had; although, I don't know that there is really a way to determine that. There is no arguing that he, by all appearances, is the most prideful, arrogant, and stubborn one. Those characteristics clearly dominate any common sense he has, which certainly lends credibility to a perception that he is the slimiest. Even the most slimy, lying, crooked of politicians, can be more clever in hiding their ways. Throw childish in there. This reminds me of catching my kids, in the act of writing on the wall, and hearing them deny any such writing.
Good grief:
I read the (or equivalent) part. You limited title to a recording, which suggests a limiting of equivalent indicia of title to a writing, such as certificate of title, bill of sale, contract for sale, assignment, etc. I think I reasonably read 'equivalent' to mean a writing. Regardless, I wasn't trying to stir the pot, but suggesting that, based on my reading, a person's claims are not irrelevant absent a writing.
My point was that one cannot simply claim something is legally true. Legal truth requires supporting documentation.
Core of point:
Trump is a compulsive liar and yet far right fascist assholes still defend him.
Seems there is a huge difference between liberals and fascists.
The lies might not work with the courts, but I predict his die-hard supporters will gobble them up, or pretend to.
trump is now stating there'd be "problems like we've never seen" if indicted. That is the oddest statement coming from an innocent man. Sounds more like a threat than a statement of innocence.
Where are the lawyers?
Always “xxx like we have never seen before”.
Can this lying narcissist go one speech without that witless cliche style?
He want's his supporters to "defend his honor", if he is indicted, and my guess is that he will be. Classic trump, say what he wants to happen without actually saying what he wants to happen.
When we saw the headline yesterday, that's exactly what my dad said. 'There are the instructions. It's just like "stand back and stand by" to the Proud Boys.'
It's ridiculously absurd. Like his speaking in the third person. Cobalt thinks that people who speak in the third person are weird.
Dad is smart.
That's classic mafioso-speak. "I wouldn't mind if someone whacked that guy." Making your point without giving an explicit instruction.
Link fixed. Someone let me know I relinked this article to the original link at 2.4 . Oopsey...
Where are the lawyers?
hilarious, I posted that youtube video on the wall in heated discussions a few days ago.

LOL, that's good. so good it could be updated for total relevance.
Fantastic !
I love it!
Wait, where's Uday, er, Eric ?
Exactly right..
There are always missing emails....Oh, wait those missing Hillary emails are trumped by Top Secret documents.
I would look in the groundskeeper at the Jersey GC.
There are two possible explanations: (1) Trump is an idiot. (2) Trump is a corrupt monster.
The amateur logician in me wants to say, "all of the above," but I think that does a disservice to reason number 2.
And he's really not an idiot. An actual idiot doesn't get this far and do this much intentional damage.
That poses an interesting question - is someone an idiot because their internal machinations are idiotic or because their public statements and behavior are idiotic ?
Its not difficult to make a strong argument that Trump is an idiot just based on the latter.
More than just interesting, you posed a fascinating question.
What gets me is if he just followed the law and protocol to begin with none of this would even be a thing.
Yet donald cannot and will not follow normal rules and regulations and the right wing goes nuts defending indefensible behavior.
their dumb ass hero just incriminated himself, again, on a rwnj radio show this morning.
One theory as to why Donald Trump hoarded the information? To blackmail people.
I can't find a link to it online but Donald Trump once tried to pressure Christine Todd Whitman with a threat of leaking information about her son engaging in disorderly and drunken behavior on a Trump property.
It was on NPR recently.

Here's another theory. Some of the documents have proof or some indication of 45's wrong doings.
That's a good one!!!!
Trump has been a criminal for his whole life. That is what daddy taught him.
Donny should have been in prison many years ago.
This is true Cobalt. Presidents in this country aren't even allowed to keep gifts given to them or to first ladies. Everything has to be turned over to the national archives. That's the law.
We've been saying this forever, Tessy! He could have walked away with somewhat of a legacy to his cult followers, but he got owned by his own ego. His "legacy" is forever in the shitter and history will not be kind.
