CALEXICO —

Several panels of new barrier being installed along the U.S.-Mexico border were blown down by high winds Wednesday, landing into Mexican territory, the U.S. Border Patrol said.

The steel bollard panels, at 30 feet tall, had just been anchored in concrete, which had not yet cured, when the gusts knocked them down late in the morning. According to the National Weather Service, the area reported gusts around 20 to 30 mph around that time.

The failure occurred at a point in Calexico, Calif., between the west and east ports of entry. A road in Mexicali, Mexico, parallels the border wall. No one was injured and no property was damaged, authorities said.

“Luckily, Mexican authorities responded quickly and were able to divert traffic from the nearby street,” said Border Patrol Agent Carlos Pitones.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection was working to retrieve the panels from Mexico and reinstall them.

They weren't anchored,  the concrete wasn't poured yet,  the concrete was poured but not hardened yet.  The usual excuses.

They didn't actually land in Mexico - well, yes they did if CBP was working with Mexican authorities to "retrieve them".

Well, two things there;

I live in the southern most reaches of Tornado Alley in Texas where the average wind is 20mph

so evening bursts of 30 to 40mph are laughed at.

However with a competent construction company those in charge would know better than to try this

even with a top heavy slat/bollard style "fence".

Yep, shit happens in high winds.

And we are paying for it.

You criticized shoddy construction. If the contractor has to do it ten times to get it right, that's his problem and he eats the nine failures.

It is apparent to most people that you take down the old sections of fence before you attempt to erect the new sections.  Meanwhile there are always a few CBP vehicles to dissuade anyone from dancing across the border.

The original twitter video showed several White & Grenn CBP vehicles behind the cranes,

sadly it is no longer available.

But that picture is actually a good find as Tuscon Sector 1 and Tuscon Sector 2 are getting underway along the Organ Pipe National Monument.

At least they are attempting to move the Saquaro's instead of just bulldozing them.

Every 15 feet equals 75 years so they are pretty old, maybe as old as the USA or older.

You know what Carlos, Jorge, Miguel and Sancho are saying about trump's building a wall? "No problem ... we'll get over it." I'm having a hard time knowing where the money is coming from (don't forget that 64 day government shutdown that went nowhere):

  • $1.375 billion from the Homeland Security appropriations bill
  • $600 million from the Treasury Department’s drug forfeiture fund
  • $2.5 billion from the Department of Defense’s drug interdiction program
  • $3.6 billion from the Department of Defense’s military construction account

Seems trump's running our country the same way he ran Trump University and his other failed businesses ... into the fuckin' ground. I think he got 4 cents on a dollar for the Taj Mahal.

Under trump, no one's getting a prize.

4,309 foot tunnel discovered under border in San Diego had elevator and tracks...

70 feet below the surface.  No telling how old the tunnel was or when it had been used last.

It was complete with a complex drainage system, electricity, lights and ventilation.

20 to 30 mph winds are the norm around here.

Is it normal to set something like this without some sort of stabilization, since the concrete wasn't set yet?

Good question.  It also appears to be right up against the tree line which is in Mexico.

There is a 60 foot easement all along the Mexican border with California, Arizona and New Mexico.

Why are they building it with no apparent access to the southern side of the "fence"?

It makes no sense.

Because the southern side of the fence is Mexico? Why in the hell would one want or need access to Mexico? Seems that is a bit of HUH? If there is American soil on both sides, all one would have to do to "enter" the US is to stand on the 30' south side. Boom. American side. "Hey, somebody grab some blankets and towels and water. We are about to birth an anchor baby!!"

I repeat, by the terms dictated to California, Arizona and New Mexico as they attained statehood, they surrendered a 60 foot wide easement along their border with Mexico with which the US can do anything it wants.

Much of the American fence/wall/barrier is built within the easement, not on the edge of it which severely hampers the builders. The access roads are on our side often backed by a 2nd fence on that easement line.

Guess what? That still leaves 1200 miles of unprotected Texas border and where there are walls they are often much further inland than 60 feet from the actual border.

Guess what?  No witnesses, no anchor babies,

No hospital, no birth certificate, no anchor baby.
