Greg Gutfeld: How can Trump turn a conviction into an electoral windfall?

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld gives his take on the reaction to former President Trump's conviction in NY v. Trump on 'Gutfeld!'

Happy Monday everyone. So, today, jury selection began in Hunter Biden's gun trial. And as a welcome gift, those selected were given a free dime bag. To make sure it's a jury of his peers, they're looking for people who were given phony jobs in Ukraine, smoke, crack in a sensory deprivation tank, had sex with a dead family member's wife, while impregnating a stripper. So far, they found one. Possible witnesses include Beau Biden's widow, Hallie Biden, Hunter Biden's ex-wife Kathleen, and the gun store clerk in Delaware. Or, as Hunter calls it, his dream foursome.

Over the weekend, President Biden was seen cycling with Hunter in Delaware. It's part of his new workout program called "Not Dying."

Video

I had to work hard to get one out of you. I wonder if they're going to like these. Mexico has officially elected their first ever female president. I know! Yeah, like you care. Oh, finally a woman. Oh, you go girl. Shut up. Her name is Claudia Sheinbaum. That's right, Claudia Sheinbaum. You know of the Tijuana Sheinbaums? You should try her Gefilte fish tacos. But her first order of business as president? Getting her daughter to marry a doctor. Ha ha! I don't care if you don't like it. God, if I did, I'd be miserable.

MEXICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SHEINBAUM, WHO PROMISES TO CUT CRIME, FACES HUGE HURDLES FROM POWERFUL CARTELS

Today, during his testimony on the U.S. COVID response and origins, Anthony Fauci said the claims of his influence on the CIA lab leak analysis are a conspiracy. And it makes it makes him sound like Jason Bourne. But look, man, no one is confusing Fauci with Jason Bourne. One is a person that kills people with government backing and the other's Matt Damon.

Video

Over the weekend, pro-Hamas protesters clashed with a gay pride parade in Philadelphia. Despite their differences, they both united in their love of suspicious packages. And the official Facebook page for the US Navy SEALs was mocked for marking the start of Pride Month. But to commemorate the month, with every compound raid, a terrorist gets a free makeover. All right, so the saga of Donald J. Trump continues. Really? What did we talk about before him? Aside from me, of course. It's a shame we only have an hour. But have you noticed the reaction to the Trump conviction? It's more muted than my TV during Jesse's show. Of course, there are the usual nut cases where anything related to Trump is cause for incontinence.

JOY BEHAR: My reaction was I was at Costco buying, you know, ten boxes of Keurig coffee and my watch started to buzz, and I got so excited that I started leaking a little bit.

Video

So Joy Behar wets herself in Costco. And for the first time, it wasn't over the free samples of chocolate-covered lard nuggets. But aside from Joy and some has-been actors, where's all the noise? No one's dancing in the street weeping or peeing with joy. The truth is, even some on the left admit this prosecution wasn't justice. Some recognize they were going too far even before the verdict. It's like when you're in a fight with your spouse and you make a casual comment about her meat loaf and realize, oh s****, I'm in for it. And they're right. The verdict resulted in a bump in Trump's polling and a massive $200 million bump in donations. $200 million!!

TRUMP VERDICT FIRES UP THE DONOR CLASS LEADING TO MASSIVE MAY FUNDRAISING HAUL

$200 million? That's more than I make in a year. It even crashed Trump's donation site, something I haven't seen since I started that GoFundMe page to ban Brian Kilmeade from public parks. Buy a dog if you want to hang out there. Within 24 hours, Trump's new TikTok account gained over 2 million followers, crushing the Biden-Harris account that had a five-month head start. And to be fair, it is a low bar. Hell, even Hillary's left testicle has more followers than Biden-Harris. But vapid morons on TikTok are a voting bloc Biden can't afford to lose. What's next? Biden starts to lose ground among dementia patients? Fact is, Americans can tell the difference between Trump and Biden. One is facing a sentence, the other can't complete one.

Berenson said he would vote for the Democratic candidate over Donald Trump in 2024.(Photo by James Devaney/GC Images | Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images)

So how does Trump do it? How does he turn a conviction into an electoral windfall? How does he turn his adversaries' energy into power? I call it the eternal cliffhanger theory. With Trump, when one act finishes, it sparks an equally thrilling next one. He's like the orange Harry Potter. And what creates the cliffhangers are those obsessed with taking him down. It's a perpetual motion machine.

Highly accurate observation  ["Our Choice Is A Candidate Who's Facing A Sentence Vs One Who Can't Complete One"]

Just amazing how partisanship distorts perception.   Trump is indeed a convicted felon.   And Biden does stumble with words (as does Trump by the way).   But the ridiculous exaggeration of "cannot complete a sentence" pushed by Trump is directly contradicted every time Biden makes a speech.

Just for those who believe everything Trump says, here is a recent speech by Biden:

Note that unlike Trump's embarrassing ramblings about "Gettysburg, Wow", spreading damaging lies about the US government, and whining endlessly about the problems he brought on himself, Biden is dealing with serious issues in a presidential fashion.

Although Biden is too old for this office (as is Trump only 3½ years his junior) and has policies that are clearly bad (e.g. his historical border failure) there is no comparison between his demeanor, responsibility, integrity, and seriousness vs. the abysmal failure of Trump in all those factors.

Yet more illustration of bias in a dishonest presentation (quoting a partial sentence to change the meaning).   You ignore all legitimate criticism of Trump, ignore the proof that Trump's absurd exaggeration mantra about Biden is false, and just focus on criticizing Biden.

You have yet again proven clear bias against Biden and bias in favor of Trump.

Both candidates suck. All that is left to argue about is which one sucks more; and then vote for whomever is least sucky. Everyone will have a different opinion about that.

Chances are everyone on this website minds are already made up about who they will vote for.

One of them is going to be president no matter how badly they suck.

I am absolutely anti-Trump for the reasons I have given many times and reasons that should be obvious to anyone with a functioning mind.

I am not pro-Biden, Biden is simply the best method available to use my vote against Trump.

Real simple.

One of them is going to be president no matter how badly they suck.

Pretty much the point I have made.   So a rational, responsible action is to do what one can to ensure the worse of the two —Trump— does not get elected.

Again, real simple.   It gets old explaining the obvious.

Awww it is disingenuous to say 'every time' Biden makes a speech.  I agree that it is an exaggeration, but I would not say it is 'ridiculous' ....

I do not think the president should be starting a press conference regarding the 'sort of' closing of the southern border by talking about his predecessor's conviction .. it only serves to further the belief that the trial was about President Biden prosecuting a political rival.  Such comments are very Trump'esque in appearance and in my opinion, should be reserved for campaign related events ... the whole Robert De Niro thing was already bad enough.

There is no way of knowing with absolution whether or not the current administration influenced the decision to prosecute the former president, but odds are the administration did not.

It is not really that far of a stretch for some to believe that the elected DA of Manhattan, a member of the party of (D) Alvin Bragg prosecuted the former president for political gain ... the trial certainly has heightened Bragg's political recognition.  It still remains to be seen if President Biden will benefit politically from the former president's felony convictions.

Have a nice night....

President Biden has always had a bit of a stammer, similar to Jimmy Stewart's, but as anyone who has seen him speaking lately knows, his communication exceeds expectations. Let the MAGA make their loud, outrageous and obviously false proclamations...

The US economy is leading the world post-Covid, inflation is being tamed, unemployment is practically non-existent, big businesses are making record profits and the stock market is bouncing around record highs. Economic growth is beating all predictions and our leadership is successfully navigating multiple international predicaments. With our current successful, professional and fully functioning government in place it is unfathomable that American voters would throw that away for Trump's MAGA Madness, again!

Your claim was false.   Your logic was absurd.

Breaking this down:

In English, when one claims an individual "can't put two sentences together' there are several ways to interpret it.  Here are three very common interpretations:

  1. literal:  the individual is incapable of a coherent thought involving more than one sentence  (basically this is mental retardation)
  2. figurative:  the individual is predominantly incoherent (kind of like a brain-scarred homeless person mumbling: 'the government ... the government')
  3. sarcastic:  the individual routinely rambles (often losing a train of thought and talking about unrelated nonsense or making comments that never end with a point).

In all three cases Trump is wrong (and, by definition, you are then also wrong).   Biden clearly is able to string more than two sentences together, so a literal interpretation is demonstrably false.

Biden (as does Trump) sometimes loses his train of thought.   This is the exception, not the rule.   So the figurative interpretation is wrong.   You and Trump are again wrong.

Even when offering asshole sarcasm, Trump is wrong.   Biden rambles more than he should but it is still a tiny minority of his collective sentences.   And here, you and Trump are both (intentionally, I presume) ignoring what Trump himself does.   Trump is rambling more frequently nowadays.

Does the phrase "Gettysburg, ... , Wow!" mean anything to you ?

Trump supporters are making increasingly bizarre comments.   Grasping at every little thing and, as here, engaging in blatant dishonesty.

In reality, Biden sometimes makes verbal mistakes

TiG, the evidence is all around you, but you have to look at it.

The difference is that you exaggerate the frequency and importance of Biden's mistakes while I note what is actually taking place.

The other difference is that I also note Trump's mistakes yet you totally ignore them.

TiG, the evidence is all around you, but you have to look at it.

Partisans don't do that.  They will continue to make excuses.  They won't address why things like why they want the Hur investigation interview audio kept hidden or why they have to edit transcripts of speeches.

Watched Biden's speech when the Chiefs visited the White House the other day and he was very articulate and well spoken. Just as with the SOTU address and the Correspondents dinner he was flawless and was very presidential.

Watched Trump the other day, several times, and he was obviously confused, slurring, fumbling, forgetting words, very inarticulate and not presidential.

Leave it to a Fox host to get everything wrong, yet again.

Not only is Trump a scoundrel and con-man who demonstrated he will throw the nation under the bus to satisfy his ego, he is also a comical doofus.

Of course, ignore the idiotic ramblings of Trump and attack a comedian.    Deflect away since there is no way to defend that doofus.

And if you do not find Kimmel funny, you need to work on your sense of humor.

This is funny.   You even personally attack comedians who make fun of Trump.

"Whiny bitch" does not even have a hint of truth to it.   Kimmel's style is calm, cavalier wit.   Ironically, it is Trump who could now accurately be called a whiny bitch.

Kimmel, like Colbert, tries for claughter

A compound of clap and laughter made to describe the reaction that social justice Advocates when they see a "comedian" they like. No laughter is actually involved and the person initiating the reaction is not really a comedian but rather a social justice Advocate giving a speech . Whenever the "comedian" makes a point the audience likes they clap and this is what we refer to as Claughter.

Unfortunately one will still be president.

Exactly.   So voters have a few choice.

One can abstain on principle.   That is a personal choice and while it suggests that both candidates are equally bad (a position with which I wholeheartedly disagree given Trump is far worse for this nation than Biden) I recognize that people do not perceive reality the same way.

For those who do perceive a clear difference in harm to this nation between the two, it makes sense to vote against the worst one.   It is obvious to me that Trump is by far (an order of magnitude) worse for this nation than Biden.   Thus it makes sense to vote against Trump.

History will show Trump to be the worst scoundrel ever to hold the presidency.   His actions on Jan 6th are so far beyond anything done by any other PotUS as to distinguish him as the worst abuser of the powers of the presidency in US history.   He is the only PotUS who has attempted to steal a US election through fraud, coercion, lying, and incitement.   He continues to exploit the emotions and gullibility of his MAGA base and is currently making threats of retribution and violence.   Trump is a pathological liar, a malignant narcissist, a scoundrel, con-man, and basically a self-serving asshole who would (in a second term) surround himself with sycophants (useful idiots) and will abuse the powers of the presidency to meet his personal desires.

In the past, even an affair (see Gary Hart) would derail a presidential candidate; certainly sexual assault or any breaking of the law would be disaster.    That is the bar that we have held our presidential candidates to.   But not with Trump.   With Trump, the electorate inexplicably does not care about morals, ethics, etc. but will demonstrably vote for a convicted felon with dozens of remaining (more serious) counts pending.

So, yeah, it is obvious to me which of the two is worse for this nation.
