Barr disappointed by partisan attacks leveled at President Trump, says media on a 'jihad' against hydroxychloroquine
He said before the president mentioned the drug, the media was fair in its coverage but as soon as Trump mentioned it, "the media has been on a jihad to discredit the drug," Barr said. "It's quite strange."

Attorney General William Barr told " The Ingraham Angle " Wednesday that he was disappointed over the partisan attacks leveled against President Trump during the  coronavirus pandemic  and blasted reporters for waging a "jihad" to discredit the effectiveness of the malaria drug  hydroxychloroquine .

"It's very disappointing because I think the president went out at the beginning of [the coronavirus pandemic] and really was statesmanlike, trying to bring people together, working with all the governors," Barr said. "Keeping his patience as he as he got these snarky, gotcha questions from the White House media pool and the stridency of the partisan attacks on him has gotten higher and higher."

Barr's criticism toward the media sharpened when he addressed the coverage of hydroxychloroquine and its possible role in the fight against the coronavirus.  He said before the president mentioned the drug, the media was fair in its coverage but as soon as Trump mentioned it, "the media has been on a jihad to discredit the drug," Barr said. "It's quite strange."

Host Laura Ingraham asked Barr about the possibility of extending the shutdown and its impact on the country.  Barr said a depression would make the health care system "weaker."

"We cannot keep for a long period of time our economy shut down just on the public health thing. It means less cancer. Cancer researchers or at home. A lot of the disease reaches researchers who will save lives in the future. That's being held in abeyance," Barr said. "The money that goes into these institutions, whether philanthropic sources or government sources, is going to be reduced. We will have a weaker health care system if we go into a deep depression. So it just measured it in lives. The cure cannot be worse than the disease."

The attorney general lamented the loss of family businesses during the shutdown, saying after the 30-day period the U.S. needs "find a way" to allow businesses to adapt.

"But when you think of everything else, generations of families who have built up businesses for generations in this country and recent immigrants who have built up businesses, snuffed out.  Small businesses that may not be able to come back," Barr said. "If this goes on too long. So we have to find after the 30-day period, we have to find a way of allowing businesses to adapt to this situation and figure out how they can best get started."

Barr was right on in all that he said.  I’m glad he said it and that millions heard him.

Sure, Dr Barr is just the medical expert we need to keep the country safe and healthy.  Who wouldn't trust a medical authority like him?   jrSmiley_88_smiley_image.gif

Well the top medical researchers in France have done the research and told their President that the two medication cocktail is remarkably effective.

Is Barr any more of a medical expert than Trump? If not, who cares what he thinks.

There is this weird insistence on giving Trump credit for something which is not necessarily credit worthy. But if we dont want to give Trump credit , we are bad people and haters, according to the Trump crowd.

I seeded a video tonight of a Dr. William Haseltine, a very eminent biologist , in a tv interview where he says hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus is a bad idea. It has a "mild" effect on viruses, and could have bad side effects. He says no one should take it without a doctor's order and supervision. To Haseltine, the mediocre benefit is not worth the risk. He is an eminent renowned biologist, what the hell is William Barr?

This obsession with this drug gets weirder every day.

Your'e not paying attention again. Barr is only pointing out the politics now surrounding the drug. Let me repeat it for you and others:

He said before the president mentioned the drug, the media was fair in its coverage but as soon as Trump mentioned it, "the media has been on a jihad to discredit the drug," Barr said. "It's quite strange."

No shit!

To Haseltine, the mediocre benefit is not worth the risk.

As opposed to all the doctors worldwide who are using it to combat the virus. I guess that's why Dr Haseltine can be found on CNN.

(He did write a book called "Aging well")

I had never heard of Dr Haseltine, but I dont regularly follow medical news, so I had no reason to have ever heard of him.

This appears to be an extremely eminent biologist with very relevant knowledge and experience. He says people should not be taking the drug Trump has touted for this disease.

I'll believe him over Trump, as will most people with a working brain.

People have a RIGHT to try hydroxychloroquine if they want to and a doctor will order it for the patient. That doesnt make it a good idea.

Trump has touted this over and over as a way to distract from all his other shortcomings in this crisis.

What a shock!  And if he said we would never shake hands again?

People have a RIGHT to try hydroxychloroquine if they want to and a doctor will order it for the patient.

That's how it works.

Trump has touted this over and over as a way to distract from all his other shortcomings in this crisis.

Trump one day said he thought it might help and the haters have gone after the drug ever since. Don't look now, but they handed Trump another victory!

I agree. It's amazing how obsessed some portions of the left are fixated on a drug simply because Trump pointed out some doctors thinks it helps.

The level of freak-out hysteria blows my mind. Trump isn't making anyone take the thing. If you don't want to take it, don't take it. You'd think America was just going to stop listening to their doctors and look to Trump.

And Trump hasn't even said that people should be taking it! That's the really crazy part.

Holy shit. Why is there even an argument over what's in the toolbox? If you don't know what it is - leave it alone.

"the media has been on a jihad to discredit the drug," Barr said. "It's quite strange."

It is strange. He didn't say "buy chemicals and poor them down your throat in reckless disregard of your health and without seeing a doctor," but you'd think he had, based on the coverage and the responses. He didn't even say it was a cure. The whole thing is deranged.

We cannot keep for a long period of time our economy shut down just on the public health thing.

He's right. We need to continue to be thoughtful and reassess every month, week, and day, how much normal stuff we can get back to doing. At some point, it's going to go back to business as usual, even though some folks will still get sick and maybe even die. Obviously we want those numbers to be way less than they would be unchecked, and even less than they are now. However, we are not going to wait until the numbers are zero.

Barr is not saying the drug should or not be administered to anyone. He just said he thinks the attacks on Trump and anti-drug sentiment are strange.

Neither man is in a position to say the drug is good or bad for all people in all situations and neither are we. What is so wrong with maintaining an open mind about the matter and letting doctors do their job? You seem to want to outlaw the drug for all Covid-19 patients just because Trump expressed some optimism that it might be helpful.

A/noon....We have been working on 2 different vaccines in Australia...One is about to be tested and has been sent to Holland and another is being tested on ferrets down Geelong and showing excellent results so far...We are very close to "squashing this virus" and sooner the better for us all...So fingers crossed..

University of Queensland COVID-19 vaccine testing begins

The effectiveness of a University of Queensland vaccine against the coronavirus is about to be tested in a biosecurity facility in the Netherlands.

The vaccine will be used on live coronavirus for the first time to determine how effectively it induces protection against infection.

UQ's vaccine program co-leader Dr Keith Chappell says the trial will establish a critical package of data ahead of human clinical trials later this year.

Clinical studies will be conducted by Viroclinics Xplore, which offers myriad pre-clinical tests including toxicology of drugs, antibodies, and antivirals targeting viral infectious diseases.

UQ created COVID-19 in its laboratory and then set about designing a vaccine to combat the virus.

The vaccine locks the "spike" protein into a shape that allows the immune system to be able to recognise and neutralise it.

Great news shona! Thank you for sharing it with us. Fingers crossed that it will prove to be a beneficial vaccine to combat the Covid-19. Please keep us posted of any new info you might have on these testings.

Barr really shouldn't be surprised. The MSM media has always been disgracefully partisan when Trump's involved.  No reason a pandemic would make them honest.

Perhaps all the mockers should just agree to refuse to use it should the unthinkable happen and be quiet about the rest of us having it as an ace in case it happens to us.  I wonder how many in that condition would refuse the two drug combo when push comes to shove so to speak because Trump suggested its use?
