The Fate of A Nation
We're going to beat Donald Trump. And when we do, we won't just rebuild this nation — we'll transform it....Joe Biden

We the People

We are now 100 days away from the 2020 election. The results of that election could significantly transform the United States of America as promised by candidate Biden as well as by former president Obama. Every principle the once great nation was founded upon will be destroyed as would our safe & secure care-free way of life. We know that the man the democratic party chose/nominated was a reluctant choice. Way back at the start of the DNC Primary election Joe Biden was told "not to embarrass himself." However when the large democratic field was winnowed down only two candidates remained - a senile candidate who was portrayed as a "moderate" and an old Socialist, whom party leaders feared was un-electable in a general election. That changed things, didn't it? Thus the decision was made by the powers that be to have everyone endorse Biden. Sanders stepped aside, but in doing so, he and the extreme left of the party got what it wanted via "the Unity Platform."

I'm sure most decent hard working Americans have yet to hear of this "Unity Platform."  Let me elaborate:

Economy

On the economic front, the document calls for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave, as well as a $15 minimum wage — something that the party’s left has been calling for for years. It also includes support for a House bill that would study the issue of reparations to Black Americans for their years in slavery.

“Democrats commit to the important first step of supporting H.R. 40, which would establish a commission to examine how the legacy of 246 years of slavery and another century of Jim Crow segregation continues to impact the economic prospects of Black Americans today, and to recommend remedies," it says.

It also calls for significant investments in housing, infrastructure, social security as well as broader union protections for workers and a large-scale government-run jobs program. On taxes, it calls for higher taxes on wealthier Americans but does not go into specifics.

It would also repeal "right-to-work" laws that mean workers cannot be forced to join a union, claiming that such laws "undermine worker power."

Policing and criminal justice

Radical reforms to policing have seen broad support within the Democratic Party in the wake of the police-involved death of George Floyd, a death that sparked national protests and calls to defund or even abolish the police.

Calls to abolish or defund the police are absent in the policy document. But it does include a number of reforms, including the banning of chokeholds, investments in “community policing” and investigating patterns of police misconduct.

It also would provide federal funding to create a “civilian corps’ of unarmed first responders — including social workers, EMTs and trained mental health professionals to handle non-violent emergencies, particularly mental health emergencies and low level conflicts. It claims this would allow police officers to focus on more serious crimes.

Health care

While there is no "Medicare-for-All," which was one of Sanders’ signature proposals, it does call for the establishment of a “high-quality public option plan...without deductibles" administered by the government, not private companies, with no co-pays, allowing people to enroll in Medicare at 60 instead of 65.

“Democrats will also make available on the marketplace a platinum-level, federally administered health insurance option with low fees and no deductibles, so that everyone will have access to this high-quality, low-cost plan. Low income Americans will be automatically enrolled in this federally administered option at zero cost to them,” the document reads.

It would also extend coverage from the Affordable Care Act to those illegal immigrants brought to the country as children, and who were protected by the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Additionally it would allow illegal immigrants to purchase unsubsidized coverage in the ACA marketplace.

Illegal immigration

On the subject of illegal immigration, the platform calls for the repeal of a number of policies from the Trump administration, including the travel bans on countries deemed by the administration to represent security risks. It also calls for the end to asylum policies that it claims has led to family separations.
It calls for the end to the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), known as the "Remain in Mexico" policy, whereby migrants are kept south of the border while their hearings went ahead. It would end the Asylum Cooperative Agreements with Northern Triangle countries that had allowed migrants to be either stopped there, or returned to those countries.

It would also open up the U.S. to litigation by ordering DHS Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties to “undertake a review of the Trump Administration’s immigration policies and provide recommendations for redress.”

For those already in the country, the document calls for an immigration reform package including a “roadmap to citizenship” for those in the country illegally.

It also reiterates Biden’s call for a 100-day moratorium on deportations of illegal immigrants “while conducting a full-scale study on current practices to develop recommendations for transforming enforcement policies and practices,” at ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Education

On education, the documents includes calls for the expansion of free meal programs in K-12 schools, as well as tripling Title 1 funding to eliminate funding differences between white and majority minority districts.

Significantly, it would also ban for-profit private charter schools, and also opposes private school vouchers. It would also reinstate Obama-era Title IX protections for transgender students.

For colleges, it calls for grants for historically black colleges and universities, and calls for making community colleges tuition free.  On student debt, it would forgive up to 50G in student debt for those in public services, cancel loans for public servantts teachers or disabled students. It would also forgive all undergraduate tuition related debt from two and four year colleges for debt holders earning up to 125,000, with phase outs.

Separately, the  climate change  task force – co-chaired by progressive  Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York  and former Secretary of State John Kerry – calls for a   faster timetable   to achieve net-zero carbon emissions than Biden has previously advocated for, instead of the Ocasio-Cortez-championed Green New Deal to overhaul environmental policy, which also was not included in the recommendations.

Can anyone imagine such an America?

This coming Saturday (August 1st) is when Joe Biden will name his long anticipated Vice Presidential running mate. It is the most important, consequential running mate in the history of American politics. Whoever that individual is will likely be the President should Americans be self destructive enough to elect Joe Biden this fall. I am not referring to Joe Biden's age when I say that. Joe Biden is mentally dysfunctional as anyone can see. You seldom hear of people defending or hailing Joe Biden. IMHO, Just about anyone who votes for him is either voting against Donald Trump or is a hard core leftist who knows what a Biden presidency will usher in. What I am referring to is the almost certain removal of Joe Biden by the forces within the democratic party should he ever win the White House. If that mission is ever accomplished, (a Biden victory) we will soon begin to hear the rumors via the left wing media of Biden's mental deficiencies, or maybe a scandal will conveniently pop up?

Have I gone a little over board on that one?

Hopefully we will never have to find out!

You have a clear choice coming.

Yes, between an inept man baby incumbent and a long time experienced legislator in Joe Biden.

Weight the consequences carefully

No need to "weight" them like a butcher putting his thumb on the scale, just weigh them fairly and you can easily see how monumentally more competent Joe Biden is. None of the diarrhea word salad above changes that fact.

Does a bear shit in the woods?

It is quite telling that you associate a 15 dollar minimum wage with the end of America.

Two-thirds of Americans (67%) support raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour

Gee, I haven't heard that one in a long time.

Is that one piece of the plank your choice for a reasonable goal?

A $15 dollar minimum wage = more automation, less jobs. Please tell the 67%!

Vic, as an extremist you are out of touch with what most of America wants from its government.

That's right, it's just another way to garner votes. As you point out why not make it $30 per hour. Who wouldn't want that?  Do you think we might find 67% of those polled supporting $30 per hour for an entry level job?  Of course we would.  The real world showed us what happened when our Labor Unions won a living wage for American workers - Corporations began to give the work to countries where workers were paid next to nothing. Sanders & co need a good course in Economics.

Vic, as an extremist

As always, I'll let the objective observer decide which of us is the extremist.

Are you already out of arguments?

Too many Americans are little piglets who want government to be a giant tit for them to suck on as they bleed tax paying working Americans dry and kill the goose that laid the golden egg
