I've seen a Raven Dance in person at a POW WOW some years ago, and it was very interesting. The dancer was very impressive, and his regalia was awesome. He danced as if he had actually become a Raven. Best portrayal I've ever seen.

Too cute! We have a resident squirrel here now as well. He just moved in as couple of weeks ago and made himself at home. He resides in the big tree across the street from me, and I see him checking out the grassy area in front of my apt every day now. My Yoda Girl goes into wiggle butt chattering stalk mode when she see him out the front window, and he seems to enjoy teasing her by coming up on my patio in front of her and just looks at her, as if daring her to try and catch him.

I named him Squigly, and toss out a few peanuts now and then when I see him out in the yard. But, there I am not the only one here that does it. He is sort of our neighborhood mascot. (grin)

My Yoda Girl

Yea, my Onyx goes all squeaky and chittery.  She makes the most awesome sounds when the squirrels are playing tag in the front yard.  Her chitters are what brought me to the window to see the two of them playing tag.

Yoda Girl's staccato chattering lets me know Squigly is here when I have not noticed him yet. It is so funny to watch him 'hide' his peanuts in the yard, then the Jays come along behind him and steal them. The Jays sit in the tree in the yard and watch where Squigly stashes them. Then one of the Jays will attract his attention while the other one steals one of the peanuts. The Jays trade off in their game so that they will both get to steal them.

Our jays hog everything - push other birds off the feeder.  The only bird that takes them on is the woodpecker.  He gets after them.

4.1.4  Raven Wing  replied to  Veronica @4.1.3    2 years ago

The crows here are very large, and they pretty much rule the area. The Jays are the only birds here that will challenge them. So poor little Squigly doesn't stand much of a chance saving his treats.

Thank you, Veronica. It seems to be a talent I didn't know I had up until a few years ago. My Father was the artistic one in our family when I was growing up. All freehand artwork, and he had a very wide variety of styles. But, over the years I have used the computer, both for pleasure and for profit, I found a way to employ my own style of artwork. I think my Father had more influence over me than either of us knew. (smile)

When I first started creating my early creations they were only posted in the Anishinaabe group, as I thought that not everyone might be interested in Native American artwork. But, some of the members in that group urged me to share my artwork in Mac's group, and after they kept insisting that I do so I finally gave in and tested the waters here in Creative Arts. I have enjoyed being a part of the Creative Arts group ever since.

Here is one of my very first creations, first posted in the Anishinaabe group about 4+ years ago. Some of you might have already seen it, and for those who haven't, I hope you enjoy it....

Italian Renaissance and artists from other periods of Classical art incorporated attributes and iconography to portray the character and strengths of their subjects. RW has done that masterfully in this work!

Bravo, RW!

That is an incredible bonsai, Kavika.   The Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino (near Pasadena) has an annual Bonsai-A-Thon.  I have been in the past, but did not go this year.   It is always spectacular.   A link for anyone who might be interested to learn more:    There is an interesting video.  This year's show was in early April.

Anyone visiting Southern California who has not been to the Huntington should go.  It is one of the greatest sites we have here with an outstanding art collection, including an outstanding collection of British portraits, a fantastic historic library and acres of wonderful gardens, including a world-class succulent garden, and beautiful Chinese and Japanese gardens.  I highly recommend a visit to the Huntington.
