REGRETS - Have We Not All Had Them?
REGRETS - Have We Not All Had Them?
"Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention"
From "My Way" written by Paul Anka for Frank Sinatra, who sings it as his theme song. Listen to it now. Here is the link.... https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1CW411n7Z4?from=search&seid=11297633688346067191
In my case, concerning my past experiences, this tells enough of my story...
But I will tell of one regret that was more recent, although there were probably too many sensible reasons to not do what my conscience urged me to do.
About 4 years ago, I was involved in a very short term association with a private high school in Chengdu. One day we took a tour of a rural community in the mountains of Sichuan Province that was the centre of and had suffered greatly during the massive 2008 earthquake. We visited a school high in the mountains that had just been built to take the place of ones that had collapsed. The students were primary and middle school students, many of whom were from very poor families, who did not have many of the benefits and privileges or even facilities that all of us take for granted. We had taken many gifts with us, sports equipment, books, art supplies, clothes, etc. that the kids lined up to choose what they wished.
The kids crowded around me, touched me, asked me for my autograph - for most of them I was the first white man they had ever seen. My heart went out to them. I saw one of their classrooms.
By this time I had been teaching English to Chinese Students for more than 10 years, and I learned the joy of teaching. My soul spoke to me, I felt a strong urge to provide something to these kids that otherwise they may never experience, and that is to be taught English by a person whose first language was English and who had the experience of teaching it. One could not help but love these kids who were so deprived, and who had suffered such loss and pain from the earthquake.
But regrets - Common sense prevailed. At my age it was better to be in a big city not far from a major hospital and the other facilities available there. As well, my wife did not want to be far from her family, and so I went on with my life....
Have you any regrets? If so, are you willing tell us?

we all have regrets.
however, the buddha said, ''regret is vain'', and he was right
From the movie "The Devil's Advocate"....
LOL For what?
Great movie!
What movie? Are you referring to The Devil's Advocate?
No. We are the Millers
Oh, okay, I never watched it.
As a child, I once failed to give adequate care to a pet turtle resulting in its death. This still haunts me.
I won't say what I did as a child to salamanders I collected,
Never back down was/is my motto never did, so no regrets.
I am of the mindset that even if you do regret something, there is no point in letting it get you down. Wallowing in it does nothing.
Just move on and learn from mistakes.
I don't let regrets get me down, and in fact I rarely even remember them. It was only when I came up with the idea for this article that I thought about them.
LOL. I've come to the conclusion that most members are unwilling to expose what they might have regretted.
I regret to report that I have no regrets. If that makes sense. Even bad decisions can lead to knowledge and betterment.
No need to regret what one can still actively work to correct, improve or atone for.
My regret does not provide the benefits you list, nor do some from the past. I'm glad you still have time and the ability to achieve anything from your decisions.
