MOVIE QUIZ - AUDREY HEPBURN & PAUL NEWMAN

256

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN A COMMENT, HINT AT OR POST MOVIE NAMES OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.   POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, 'BUZZ of the ORIENT' , AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can .

PLEASE, PLEASE, READ WHAT IS BELOW IN ORDER TO GET A BETTER SCORE. IT IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM PREVIOUS INTRODUCTIONS.  I HAVE DECIDED TO BE MUCH MORE LENIENT IN MY SCORING AND HAVE DONE AWAY WITH MANY PREVIOUS RULES. .

For this quiz, besides the two image clues, the third clue, and requirement, is that the movie MUST be one in which either Paul Newman or Audrey Hepburn acted , and it could be any genre.  Since Newman acted in about 60 movies and Hepburn acted in about 40 movies that limited number should help to zero in on the answers.  None of the movies are TOO old, well, maybe one or two are, but at least most of them were very popular movies with a good chance that you've seen them.  I have seen almost all of these movies myself, so for a lot of them the clues could be of an item or scenario that is a primary object in or otherwise indicative of or important to the plot.  That might make the quiz a little more difficult, but the last one proved to be too easy.  Some of the movies were included in previous quizzes, but even if so I tried not to use the same image clues, and as usual I don't think any of the image clues are actual screen shots from the movies. I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your movie memory, web searching using web programs that identify movies from naming the clues is cheating, but once you think you know the answer I recommend that you check to make sure it is correct.  Participants keep losing points because they fail to do that.

THE RULES

I am being much more lenient and you will not lose score for misspelling or not capitalizing or using proper punctuation or adding an extraneous or leaving off a "The" or "A", but I may have to make a decision between your just naming what the clues are and the actual movie name. Just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie, which is why I recommend that you check to make sure the name is correct, because the images may only be a CLUE to the ACTUAL name of the movie. Remakes of original movies with the same name will be acceptable (provided that either Paul Newman or Audrey Hepburn are actors in them).  As well, I previously used clues of a star and a war scene so any Star Wars movie was correct, and likewise for Robin Hood where my clues were a golden arrow and an image of King Richard the Lion Hearted, in which case any Robin Hood movie was okay.  If you name movies that I feel the clues identify as well or better than the ones I used, I have been accepting them as good answers as well, although in the case of a specific actor quiz like this one I don't think that will happen.  TV programs and TV series such as West Wing are NOT acceptable answers, but I will accept TV movies like QB VII (which is an adaptation of a novel) or some miniseries if they are an adaptation of a novel that is too long for one episode and are spread out, like the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

There are both hard ones to guess, and also easy ones, so give it a try and NAME THESE MOVIES.

Please number your answers the same as the images.

Let's see if this quiz can raise a little more interest than the Gregory Peck one did.  Between the two of Newman and Hepburn they acted in around 100 movies - not so many so it should make coming up with answers easier, but I think that a couple of the questions, at least, will be hard for those who are just casual movie watchers.

Can those who are not familiar with these quizzes PLEASE try really hard to not post answers, or movie names or even hints here as a comment because it's not fair for those who DO follow the instructions   Please read the introductory information and rules that are above before trying the quiz, as it could help you to not mistakes and lose points.  As usual, the quiz will be up for about a week, and as always.....

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN A COMMENT HERE, HINT AT OR POST MOVIE NAMES OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.   POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, 'BUZZ of the ORIENT', AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

I had thought he was one of the most popular movie actors.  Everyone who tried that quiz got good scores - the results are now posted.  Here is a link to the results >>>

Two players have already participated, and although neither one got perfect scores, each of the questions has now been correctly answered so I am satisfied that there are no impossible questions to answer.

Well, for someone who rarely watches movies you got a pretty good score on the last one.

This quiz is now closed.  Nine members participated, and here are the winners.  Nobody got a perfect score so in first place, with scores of 19 out of 20, Nowhere Man and Veronica tied. Second place was another tie, Vic Eldred and Split Personality each got scores of 17.  Coming in third was Kathleen with 16 and Honourable Mention goes to another tie, both Charger and Snuffy got 15 out of 20.  Where I went to school, 75% was honours grade.  Here are the answers:

  1.  Exodus - tramp steamer boat & entrance to King David Hotel
  2.  Absence of Malice - liquor warehouse & newspaper
  3.  How To Steal a Million - a thief & a million dollar bank note
  4.  Slap Shot - face being slapped & a hockey arena
  5.  The Young Philadelphians - hamburger & bowl of chili. ("How 'bout a hamburger?" (Tony) "I'm a chili girl myelf" (Joan)
  6.  My Fair Lady - rain & Spain ("The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain.")
  7.  Nobody'sFool - man sitting at a bar & grandfather, father and grandson
  8.  Hombre - white man with a native American & a stagecoach
  9.  Breakfast at Tiffany's - bacon and eggs breakfast & interior of Tiffany's
  10. The Verdict - man playing a pinball machine & lawyer addressing the jury
  11. Love In the Afternoon - white carnation in a lapel & girl playing a cello
  12. The Color of Money - a colourful bank note & man running fast (Fast Eddie)
  13. War and Peace - Moscow & Napoleon brandy
  14. Cat On a Hot Tin Roof - an unhappy cat & a red tin roof (red = hot)
  15. Sabrina - a chauffeur (Sabrina's father) & Paris (where Sabrina went)
  16. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - a "wanted" poster & 2 people jumping off a cliff
  17. Roman Holiday - Rome's "Mouth of Truth" (an iconic scene) & 2 people wild on a moped
  18. The Sting - people placing bets & a telegraph agent
  19. The Lavender Hill Mob - lavender tea & the Capitol Hill mob
  20. Cool Hand Luke - hands holding ice & prisoner road work gang

My thanks to all who participated.  The next quiz is going to be different again.  No specific genre, no specific actors, but it will be the movies that were directed by Steven Spielberg.  It will be posted this evening according to your time zone, but tomorrow morning for me.  I know there will be less knowledge of his movies as there might be for actors, so I recommend that you go through a list of Spielberg-directed movies to familiarize yourselves with them.  Between regular movies and TV movies he directed between 40 and 50 movie.  That is a pretty limited list, so with less to eliminate you're bound to do well on the quiz.

Congratulations Nowhere Man & Veronica...   And congrats to everybody who played.  Fun quiz that proved to me that I don't watch enough Paul Newman or Audrey Hepburn movies to remember plot/scene/phrases, I watch to be entertained...   guess I need to work harder.   Well done everybody and thanks Buzz ...
