Washington's plot to disrupt Olympics is doomed to fail

Washington has been working on a plan to entice and instigate athletes participating in the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics to create disturbances during the Games in order to politicize the international sports event, sources familiar with the matter told China Daily on Friday.

The sources said that the plan attempts to incite athletes from various countries to express their discontent toward China, play passively in the competitions and even flatly refuse to take part in the competitions.

In return, the sources said Washington will offer a large sum of compensation to the athletes involved in carrying out the plan, and will also mobilize global resources to "protect" the "personal reputation" of athletes who choose to play in such a passive manner.

The sources stressed that Washington's plan is a new example demonstrating attempts by some anti-China forces in the United States to politicize sports and maliciously disrupt and spoil the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

It lays bare the fact that anti-China forces in the US are sheer troublemakers with regard to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the International Olympic Movement, the sources said.

The sources pointed out that anti-China forces in the US are trying to buy off athletes to encourage them to do something that is not allowed in their capacity or not related to sports competitions, which goes against the spirit and stipulations of the Olympic Charter, and will also seriously undermine the athletes' legitimate rights and interests as well as the international Olympic cause.

The plot by anti-China forces to use the athletes as a tool of political manipulation is more than malicious and dirty, and will undoubtedly be cast aside by the international community and athletes from around the world, the sources said, adding that their attempts are doomed to fail.

I consider this story REALLY hard to believe - it's enough that Biden and America's poodle countries (including I'm ashamed to say Canada) are childishly politicizing the Olympics, which is ABSOLUTELY CONTRARY to the spirit which is its whole intent and purpose, but I understand it's part of what he necessarily had to do in order to not be called "soft on China" before the midterms.  However, if in fact it IS true, then in my opinion the IOC should ban the USA from participating in the next summer and winter Olympics at the very least.  If the athletes prefer the money instead of the glory, let them have it and explain what honour and principles means to their kids.

I'm sorry my friend, but I would have to have a few more verifiable sources before I would even begin to buy this story or give an opinion...

As I said, It is really hard to believe, and whether or not there is reliable evidence to back up that allegation, the proof will be in the pudding anyway.  There are lots of people in the world who will believe anything, like what Joe Rogan has to say, so who knows?  It's getting so nobody knows WHAT to believe any more.

Yep, we are getting bombarded with so much garbage from every direction it's hard to believe anything....

That is a truth of the world we live in unfortunately... Agendas everywhere....

What has to be taken into account is that the China Daily News is wholely owned by the Publicity (Propaganda?) Department of the Chinese Communist Party. That alone makes much of what they say about the US and the West suspect. Especially with all the tension going on in Asia and Europe at this time. As you said, I also would have to see more conclusive evidence from a neutral non biased source that does not include the CCP.

If you can find a neutral non-biased source that really IS a neutral non-biased source, please let me know.  When I was the editor of my university's newspaper we used The Christian Science Monitor as our model for format and content.  Back then it won year after year the award for being the most unbiased news source.  That award is no longer given out for obvious reasons.  Even The Christian Science Monitor leans left now.

One of the great mysteries of this era will be why the right embraced Russia but negatively obsessed about China.

You think we took the left's position on Russia?  No John, we were never the ones who made apologies for Stalin. That was the left, John. I saw your article that frames an argument around Tucker Carlson's position, without ever stating what his position was. You see John, Carlson may be one of the very few, along with former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, who thinks we may be going to war with Russia. That is his concern.

As for the left: You drank the kool-Aid that Hillary Clinton brewed and now you think a third rate country, trying to regain it's brief day in the sun is our main enemy?  Really?  No wonder those college professors had such an easy time of teaching their rotten ideology!

Russia isn't a threat to depose America as the number one country.  China is, and America can't handle that possibility so it is using all methods at its disposal other than outright invasion to contain China.

I hope you'll get through to them.

Invasion?  Not from Biden and Co. China made so many rich.

Buzz ..I would rather be a poodle than a snake any day...

As for this article, I take it with a grain of salt...

All our athletes have been told is don't take your phone and don't cause any problems...if you do you will be sent home...

But as in previous games someone usually does something stupid or dumb..

I would think the Winter Olympics will run smoothly and with precision...would not expect anything different..

Just hope covid does not stuff it up after all the time and effort gone into it...

I saw your comment - I noticed it too.  Creative Arts was locked as well and I knew A.Mac would never have done that so I unlocked it.  I just asked Dig if he wanted me to unlock his.  A.Mac appointed me his deputy on Creative Arts years ago so I had the authority but I won't unlock any others without the authors' permission.  I've written Perrie about it but I think she's sleeping.

Actually, I'm really looking forward to this winter Olympics.  Being from Canada I've done some of these sports: skating, hockey, skiing, curling, tobogganing down an iced hillside run (which is kind of a baby-bobsledding), and I've always enjoyed watching figure skating.  Being here the events should be really well covered on TV.
