How Old Are NT Users? - A Poll

Voting has Ended

Recently I saw a comment that NT users were mostly very old, making this site unattractive for younger members to join.  I believe that was just an opinion, but then I was curious - what is the age distribution on this site?  Please complete this poll so we can have a definitive answer about the ages of NT users.  You are not giving up much privacy because the request is not for a specific age, but within a range of ages.

I am on the lower end of the category I checked which is the largest category...though, with all the hardware and broken this that and the other thing feel like I might qualify for the upper end of the category...c'est la vie.

As of this moment, here are the results from 47 members:

Less than age 20.......0
Age 20 - 39..............1
Age 40 - 59............ 19
Age 60 - 79.............25
Age 80 or greater......2

"I myself would like to see more younger people here." (Raven Wing)

Then the next question to answer is whether we, mostly being more mature adults, WANT to attract younger members. If the majority of us do not, then there is no real purpose in continuing with this topic, but if we do, then that points to the next step as to why I posted this poll.

What we would now need to do is to come up with suggestions on how to interest more younger members in joining in with us. Perhaps it has to do with the topics that mostly fill the Front Page, which is what most persons who originally check out this site will most likely peruse in order to join and take part. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that the groups are not better promoted, or are not sufficiently varied. Maybe the regularity of nastiness needs to be better curtailed. We can continue our discussion along those lines, or others that you all might suggest.

The age distribution seems to be what you might expect.

the range 40 to 60 is way to big

should have 10 year ranges not 20

As I said, I tried to do it on a generational basis.  I could have just done 3 categories - young, middle-aged and old.  I think the 40 - 59 group would be considered middle-aged.

Yeah....but....I call myself "old" while I think of some one who's only 65-70 as relatively young. (I'm 57)

Age is a case of mind over matter - Ya don't mind, it don't matter.

The age ranges are too broad and they overlap into generations.  Plus, what is too old?  The answer to this question will vary depending on the person answering.  In other words, what I consider old another member may not.

I am still interested in the results even though it will not prove or disapprove my comment.

You realized that it was your original comment that gave me the incentive to post this poll.  I divided it into generational groups - they are every 20 years.  I don't think I made any reference to being "too" old.  I used the word to indicate age, not meaning "old age".  As of this moment, everyone is either 40 or older which I think does support your original concern.

International Society of Genetic Genealogy Wiki

"In genealogy, the  length of a generation  in the past has been used principally as a check on the credibility of evidence — too long a span between parent and child, especially in a maternal line, has been reason to go back and take a more careful look at whether the received information reflects the actual reality, or whether a generation has been omitted or data for two different individuals attributed to the same person. For that purpose, the accepted 25-year average has worked quite acceptably, and birth dates too far out of line with it are properly suspect."

This poll can be of value to potential advertisers to help Perrie pay for maintaining this site, besides satisfying curiosity.

Advertisers would normally not know the ages of the users of a site unless the site were one specific to an age group, but NT is not.  This way advertisers can focus their ads to a specific age group, once it becomes obvious.

I’ve seen that ad too.  I’m in the 40-59 range but just barely.  In a little over 300 days I’ll be in the 60-79 range.

I'm interested in knowing why you made that comment.  I can give you reasons why, but first please tell me why you wrote that, since there is absolutely no reference to different races in the article or the comments.

When I visited my sister in New Mexico, suddenly all of the hot Russian babes wanted men over 30 in NM.

So, they've got my age right, but not my sex or orientation.  I don't play for that team.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I get those, too.  Not as often as ads for dating/marrying Russian women, but ones for Asian women do show up on occasion.

So, Buzz, I'm sure Karri didn't mean anything derogatory.  Those are just the sort of ads that show up for US users of the site.

"There are ads at the bottom of the page for dating Asian women."

Oh, okay, I get it.  Sometimes those ads work.  I found my wife on one called "Plenty of Fish", and as of now we've had more than 10 great years together.
