Well Done, Mr. President

Well, I watched the inauguration.  President Trump's speech was full of hope.  I wish him luck and hope true Americans will give him a chance to lead the nation.

Another peaceful transfer of power, something that has been done on a regular basis since 1789.  Pretty good record, I'd say, regardless of what side of the fence you land on.

I did keep feeling there was some kind of a funny joke in there when Senator Roy Blunt was speaking......the Blunt is smokin' today or some such.

It's truly a rare spectacle in today's world. Despite all of the poisonous rhetoric, we had a peaceful transfer of power.

I was encouraged by his speech, and look forward to an improvement in our country's fortune, both foreign and domestic.

Donald Trump is, to my eyes, the worst public speaker we have ever had as president.

It is disconcerting that people praise him as a communicator. The truth is, he is horrible.

The texts that I am getting are along the lines of "God help America".

He is the least qualified and least honest president in history.

Nothing on earth can change that but time and Donald Trump's willingness to change.  70 year old narcissists dont often change.

Back in the day, I pretty much made the same comment and wish to the newly inaugurated President Obama on Newsvine-that place where you used to be the most important poster, posting the most content, etc., etc., blah, blah, blah, before you made this your throne room.

He loves the sound of himself talking so much that he rarely ever even knows what's about to come out of his mouth.  I cringe when I watch him try to have dialogue, with no ability to stay focused and coherent.  Out of nowhere comes "someone sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds", for no apparent reason other than his mouth is moving. He is a world class moron.

And yet he just did a very nice 16 minute speech telling all Americans that they are Americans and they are all equal.  Yeah, gotta' hate when he screws stuff up.........

I haven't watched it, so my comment is based on every speech I've ever seen him give.  If you can't see what I'm talking about, there's not much hope for you in understanding what makes a decent communicator.  Trump isn't it.

Sorry, thought someone as interested in current events as you would keep up on these things. I gave you too much credit.

Hal, you didn't miss anything. It was much like many of his other speeches. I think he stared at the teleprompter even more than usual today though. Big stage and all.

But did you hear his speech last night after the concert ? He was gloating about how "the other side" was going crazy, etc.

That's not unifying, it's divisive. He's still in campaign mode. Sad.

Trump looked like a buffoon last night. He looked a little better today because he was reading off a teleprompter.

Last night?  No, I think I was doing something else-oh yeah, paperwork from a class I taught this week.  Being a volunteer for a state run program can be time consuming.

Based on what I saw today, he's in President Mode today.

A concert to me, is not current events, it's music, Son.  Additionally, I go to work pretty early and don't generally stay up very late on weeknights.

Trump is the most unpopular incoming president in history.

The country and Newstalkers would be better served if people realized that.

I don't think popularity has anything to do with being a good president. One must wait a while to see if he is good or not. Remember, the word "prejudice" means to "pre-judge" and a person with any brains, even common sense if he/she has no brains, would wait to see before predicting what is going to happen. So far all I see is the stock markets flying upward, jobs being retained rather than sent abroad, and that's BEFORE he sat down behind the desk of the Oval Office.

The conservative icon George Will wrote this afternoon in a column that Donald Trump gave the worst inaugural address in history.

Awesome-since he's not a politician, he didn't make a speech like a politician.  Who woulda thunk it  The good news?  You'll have lots to spend your time writing about and seeding for the next 4-8 years.   Maybe you can even try to get them close to truth for a change.

Trump is a liar, bully, crook, fraud, misogynist, bigot, and totally uninformed for the job. He doesn't read anything.

What is the part we are supposed to like? Do you simply not care at all about the character of the president?
